View Full Version : Term 4 - Domestic Department - Budget Office
FortyJ Dec 01, 2002, 09:15 PM This thread will be the official thread for all funding requests for rush jobs and other projects.
I recommend the following when submitting your requests: Limit your requests to one per turn chat per office (well, as much as possible). This will help limit my confusion and improve the chances that your request does not get lost among the spam.
Submit your requests early. While preference will not necessarily be given to those who post first, posting early does give me more time to weigh my options. Also, posting late may cause your request to go unnoticed until after the turn chat passes.
Provide a brief argument supporting your request. Simply posting "I want xGP for this project" does not help me at all and will likely prevent you from receiving your requested funding. It doesn't have to be too detailed, but a simple sentence or two can go a long way to making your point.
Please direct all non-budget posts/comments/requests to the main Domestic Department thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37843).

Chieftess Dec 04, 2002, 02:49 PM I request these rushing of improvements:
Penguin - Library (Rush - 96g)
The Burrow - Temple (rush - 152g)
New PDX - Library (rush - 152g)
Tarkingrad - Library (rush - 140g)
Padmativa - Change to Temple (rush - 176g) (note: I didn't know this was in another province, but unless it's suggested, I'm suggesting this.).
Palanthus - Library[20] (rush if we have enough gold)

We have limited funds due to the impending upgrades of horsemen to knights, but I think we can work out some of these.

CivGeneral Dec 06, 2002, 07:33 PM I request that the library at Kuhkaff be rushed build. The Rushing would only cost 48g. I request the rushing of the library so that we can get the settler that is in the build queue of Kuhkaff quicker and can have the Settler go to the gem mountans.
Thanks :),
Grand Admrial CivGeneral, Govenor of the North Provance.
Donovan Zoi Dec 07, 2002, 03:17 PM As acting Military Leader, I would like to start a campaign to upgrade our spearmen to pikemen. This can be done immediately in cities with barracks for 20g apiece. I think the protection of our capital is most important and should be done immediately. The rest of these can be phased in over the next few turns.
(in order of importance)
Bavaria- 2 spears = 40g
New Falcon's Nest - 1 spear = 20g
Morgana - 1 spear = 20g
Octavinium- 1 spear = 20g
Tlaxcala- 1 spear = 20g
Donovan Zoi Dec 07, 2002, 06:08 PM As acting Military Leader, I wish to request a rush-build of two galleys -- One in Huntington and one in Palanthus. I have notified the respective governors of my plan and have requested they modify their build queue instructions accordingly.
Palanthus - galley = 32g
Huntington - galley = 72g
This request supercedes my request for spearmen as I feel it is much more important to monitor the Persians at this time.
Donovan Zoi Dec 07, 2002, 06:29 PM As Governor of the SW Province, I would like to request that we rush-build the settler in Eklektochtitlan so that have the best chance of beating India to site Q in your poll.
This will only cost 72g.
Stuck_as_a_Mac Dec 07, 2002, 06:51 PM I am seconding the Military Leaders request for Huntington
FortyJ Dec 08, 2002, 02:00 AM The rush request for the Library in Kuhkaff is approved, as is the settler in Eklektochtitlan.
Also, upgrades for both Spearmen to Pikemen and Horsemen to Knights are approved, but I would suggest all upgrades nearest our borders be given priority as those locations are most at risk from Persian attack and/or Japanese counter-attack.
Rush requests for Galleys are rejected as funds are scarce and would be much better appropriated towards upgrading existing military units and/or forging alliances.
Donovan Zoi Dec 08, 2002, 08:17 AM Thank you, FortyJ for approving the majority of my requests. Perhaps I haven't fully explained my reasoning for the galleys. I think it is imperative that we send a galley down both gulf coasts to monitor Persian naval activity, as well as to get a glimpse of any land encroachment. Actually, I have found a way to almost fully offset the gold for my galley requests. Here is a link to my FA proposal (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?postid=640544#post640544).
While I concur that our perimeter defense is of the utmost importance(it was the cornerstone of my campaign for this office!), our future allies India and China should be able to handle any Immortals approaching Penguin for the moment. With Governor SaaM's approval, we can get started on a pike next turn. Where we are most at risk is at sea, where we have no way to monitor Persian progress. Please reconsider this denial of funds as I am not a big fan of surprises, by land or by sea. Thanks again for hearing me out.

While I appreciate your concerns, I cannot authorize these expenditures at this time. There are simply too many other items that require funding and are more critical than a couple of galleys.
Besides, I believe that one of the two that you requested would be completed in a few turns anyway. Considering this, I don't think it's prudent to spend money on rushing a "scouting only" unit when we truly need to upgrade our defenses at this time.

Chieftess Dec 10, 2002, 07:38 PM I request a temple to be rushed in Tarkingrad for 132g.
CivGeneral Dec 10, 2002, 08:42 PM I request a Library to be rushed in Androbius
Goonie Dec 10, 2002, 09:46 PM 0 on science?.....
Shaitan Dec 11, 2002, 06:29 AM Yes, Goonie. A common strategy on the higher levels is to put science to zero and purchase techs from the AI. It costs much less to buy them than it does to research them yourself.
Goonie Dec 11, 2002, 07:08 AM Ummm... I should try that!
Shaitan Dec 11, 2002, 07:25 AM It's not as easy as it sounds though. It goes against the basic civer's nature and you find yourself oh so wanting to jack up the research level. ;)
To find the basic cost to research a tech, note the turns to complete and your treasury income. Then change the science slider to zero and note the new treasury income. Say you've got an early tech that will take 19 turns to research while you make 21g per turn. With science down to 0 your income goes to 53g per turn. The cost to research is:
(difference in incomes) * time to research =
(53-21)*19 =
32*19 =
608g.
When you can buy that tech for a couple hundred you have wasted 400g by researching it yourself. The expense gets into monstrously huge amounts farther down the tech tree.

Chieftess Dec 20, 2002, 09:46 PM I request the rush of a settler in Penguin for 52g. If accepted, I ask that a poll be put up for the next settler location (preferably where the spearman is north of the city).
Octavian X Dec 22, 2002, 01:29 AM I urgently request 136g, or any amount, to rush the library in Leningrado. Even as I speak, American agents within the city are working in order to undermind Fanatikan authority. We must build up culture in this city immeadately to prevent it from falling into American hands!
