on the game of the month page it says:

"Be sure to use vanilla Civ3"

so what exactly is this vanilla-thing ??

The Civ3 (patch 1.29f) version before PTW. Vanilla was just a phrase that has been coined to mean the plain version. OK? :)

AFAIK the "vanilla" thing comes from financial instruments, specifically futures and options that became so complicated that saying option would not mean anything so you had to say plain option but it was lame as the other options were named 'butterfly' 'box' aso so they called plain vanilla with reference to the vanilla icecream as opposed to combined/mixed icecream.

I appologise if everybody on the planet knew the story but i feel like a guru saying it. :o

In swedish, Regular is "Vanlig" which is almost like Vanilla. :)

If you buy Vanilla Ice Cream, with the right syrups and a blender you can make any flavor of Ice Cream.
