View Full Version : Maps wanted!
donsig Dec 04, 2002, 12:49 PM Can anyone make good maps showing who owns which tiles and where all the castles are?
Is anyone willing to contribute to a fund to pay a good map maker?
I am willing to contribute 500g (at least) towards a private non-profit fund to be used to pay an expert map maker periodically.
If any one wants to contribute to such a fund or anyone wants a free lance job as map maker please post in this thread!
Shaitan Dec 04, 2002, 01:14 PM I'd be happy to contribute to such a worthy cause.
The who owns what should be handled by the Land Office Cartographer. I'll be updating them at least once after our current availability.
Incidentally, we need a Land Office Cartographer and Office Manager. Both get paid very well. Apply in the interview thread for those offices (top of RPG Forum).
Cyc Dec 04, 2002, 01:28 PM I would love to apply, but I have these little daemons running around in my computer, and occassionally they jab my hard drive with sharp pointed spears, rendering it speachless. I'm afraid if I start another graphics intensive project, one of those jabs may kill it.
Octavian X Dec 04, 2002, 05:10 PM I will apply to make a map of the various castles, keeps, and palaces of our land. I do wish to say that I do not intend on making this a full time job. If somebody would provide me a list castle names and locations, I could make a map.
Shaitan Dec 04, 2002, 07:17 PM @Octavian X - Some time next week I'll be working up a complete building list. Once it's in place it will be easy to keep it up to date.
Octavian X Dec 04, 2002, 07:57 PM Once that list is up, I'll put up a map. I will start devising some symbols for the various types of buildings to be marked.
I will also mark the larger territories owned by various players (Doughnutia, Vanir, Lancre, Manitou etc.)
Octavian X Dec 04, 2002, 08:05 PM Actually, I have another idea. Why not combine these into a single 'sticky' noble registry? We can have a thread with the various houses of Fanatika, with seals, maps, and histories of each. Thoughts?
donsig Dec 05, 2002, 12:12 AM Not a bad idea Octavian.
As for the maps, I understand that no one wants this as a full time job. That's why I started this thread - in the hopes of getting a person or persons who would make a map or maps when needed.
So how much do you want to make this map? We need to start negotitations as well as give you the specs we need. For instance I'd like to see the whole country on one map but I'm not sure if that is practical. Disorganizer seems to have tried that with some success.
Shaitan Dec 05, 2002, 02:41 AM There is already a thread such as Octavian suggested. It has been buried by disuse though. LINK (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33735)
Octavian X Dec 05, 2002, 05:14 PM I knew that thread existed. I suggested a new one, with more info, sticked at the top. It would be one or two post deal. That old thread could be cleared and bumped for use as a place when nobles could post (updated) histories (That post has info on Seabrake, and doesn't even include Doughnutia).
Also, Shaitan, I feel I will have some time on my hands Friday. I'll take a crack at a building registry.
Shaitan Dec 05, 2002, 07:21 PM Regarding the building registry - I just about finished it this evening. I'll be able to post it in the morning. :)
Shaitan Dec 06, 2002, 05:55 AM The building registry has been posted in the Acroama thread.
Octavian X Dec 06, 2002, 06:27 PM Thanks. It'll be started at once.
:D
donsig Dec 07, 2002, 03:59 PM I'd like a map of Tailesin showing ownership of tiles and buildings if possible. I will pay 350g for a good map.
BCLG100 Dec 07, 2002, 04:20 PM ill give 250 gold to anyone who can make a good map of hafen land showing recent land sales
Shaitan Dec 08, 2002, 09:43 AM Any budding cartographers should see the revised job description for Province Surveyors (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?postid=640678#post640678). Instead of one person doing the entire country, I have broken the job down into individual provinces.
Octavian X Dec 08, 2002, 04:03 PM The castle mapping has been slightly delayed recently since I had to work all day yesterday at my father's farm. I may be able to finish in a few hours.
Shaitan Dec 09, 2002, 05:23 AM Here's an example of the maps that will be required from the Surveyors:

Shaitan Dec 09, 2002, 05:56 AM Note that the above map took me about 2.5 hours yesterday but that included learning the software (Photodraw). Updating it this morning with the new territory took about 4 minutes. Being a surveyor will be a one time investment of time with very easy and fast updates after that.
I will be doing 1 province map every day or so and taking the surveyor job for it when the map is complete.
BCLG100 Dec 09, 2002, 12:49 PM i think the cool little castles are the best :)
Padma Dec 09, 2002, 01:13 PM I would love to do this, but:
a) I am not familiar enough with the graphical tools to do a good job, and
b) I don't have the time to get more familiar, or to do the startup maps even if I were. :(
Plus, I apparantly do not quite have a full handle on the new tile designation codes. I am not even sure which tiles I won in the last availability! (I think I know, but I am not sure!)

Where, where??? I don't see anything!!!
Octavian X Dec 09, 2002, 03:28 PM The file server's gone down. I would be working on that castle map now if it were up...
Octavian X Dec 09, 2002, 03:42 PM Also, I can do maps for the South Doughnut Coast when I'm devising build queues for Padmativa.
Shaitan Dec 09, 2002, 04:41 PM I'm currently working on Taliesin and will post it in the morning (server permitting).

Octavian X Dec 14, 2002, 09:47 PM I'd like to bring attention to my castle map. As this was the original subject of the thread, do I still get some money?
Shaitan Dec 15, 2002, 05:29 AM If I read it right you would get at least 500g for it. Is it done?
donsig Dec 15, 2002, 08:00 AM Yes, my original donation hasn't been used yet. The offers I made for the TS and RL maps were seperate items.
Octavian X Dec 15, 2002, 09:51 AM The map is in my 'Great Buildings of Fanatika' Thread. (LINK (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39072)).
I can't find a some nice symbols, yet. Where did you get the castle you mark cities with, Shaitan?
Shaitan Dec 15, 2002, 04:26 PM I get most of my icons from Microsoft Clip Art Gallery or google image search, depending on what type I need.
