View Full Version : How's Your Computer Doing?
nixon Dec 05, 2002, 04:39 PM Quite useful, believe it or not. Apart from telling you what's wrong, they also provide you with workable and constructive solutions - and it's all FREE.
Apparently, it complains about my internet connection, otherwise mine's just fine. Just follow the procedures, at it'll do the job for ya. :goodjob:

damunzy Dec 05, 2002, 06:20 PM Doing pretty good. This site reminded me that I over clocked my system from 750 to 900. :)This is a very fast system that should meet all your computing needs. You may be able to add a few upgrades to improve performance and convenience.
I like this site. It pointed out to me that I.E. had it's cache set at 639 MB. I dropped that sucker down to 100 MB.

King of Camelot Dec 05, 2002, 10:36 PM I knew this site before so I decided to test again, I got a 680. Beat you munzy! ;) :p It told me I had IE cache at 2 GB! Good thing I don't use IE. The only probs with my computer was, security(don't use IE anyways), cache size, and graphics card acceloration set to none(my graphics card has real probs overwise).
System AMD Athlon or Duron Model 6, 1400MHz

gonzo_for_civ Dec 05, 2002, 10:53 PM Just tested an old 486(running win98 :)) on a 14.4Kb/s connection w/a 750MB HDD.
It managed to score <30(22)
Lucky Dec 06, 2002, 11:51 AM Score = 648 for my Laptop. Only issues were my disabled WLAN adapter  , the RAM and the PING times. Everything known and not changeable. :yeah:
Especially the PING time is probably because living here in Germany. And why should I enable a WLAN adapter with no WLAN host counterpart.
:D
nixon Dec 06, 2002, 11:52 AM Ran it again. Oh, btw..... 697 points. :p
IceBlaZe Dec 06, 2002, 12:45 PM 896 :p
P4 2008Mhz, 256MB RAM, 80GB total disk space, Radeon 7500 Vid Card.
That's not my computer though, family computer.
Lucky Dec 06, 2002, 01:01 PM For what itīs worth, here is mine. Only issues were ping time again and drive fragmentation. Former cannot be changed and I donīt have time for the latter right now. Everything else is perfect. Last time I used defrag was 2 weeks ago and when I came back from university after 4 hours it was at 47%, after 3 more hours at 78%. I was finished with all tasks and unwilling to wait longer. :mischief:

Pillager Dec 06, 2002, 01:03 PM I ran it on my work machine, and I will not be releasing the results. :ack:
I'll just point you to my entries in the Internet Connection thread. :p
CornMaster Dec 06, 2002, 02:24 PM I got 764.
But I have my processor underclocked. It CAN go to 1533MHz...but I have it at 1130MHz.
cgannon64 Dec 06, 2002, 06:32 PM Here is a short summary, of my results. I'm using Toshiba Satellite laptop, Pentium III, 1.10Ghz, 516MB of RAM. Here they are:
-I'm overclocking by 1Mhz, at 1097Mhz.
-Everything else is "A winner!" but my only problem is my internet, apparently. My average ping is 57ms, bandwith down is 1900kbps, bandwith up is 360. They suggest I lower my maximum browser cache from 894mb, to 80mb. Should I do this?
Finally, my score is 558. I'm going to go check my PC now.

EDIT: I'm considering playing more (read: I'm not playing any right now) on this laptop. It has 516MB or RAM, my PC only has 128. Both Pentium3. Both 30GB memory. One problem: Its my dads. ;)
damunzy Dec 06, 2002, 08:05 PM cgannon64, I noticed that after an hour of browsing I had 15 MB of cache filled it....I haven't noticed any slow after dropping mine to 100MB...yet.

I'll wait and see how yours goes after a while longer. I don't want to screw up my dad's laptop...

I got 716, but how can they take points off for an unlabeled hard drive?
Edit: well the code doesn't line up right but you get the idea.

 Can you at least tell us the specs of your machine? Or round you score to the nearest thousand? There is a limit to how could you machine can legally be, unless you work for some computer manufacturing company and they give you free samples...:hmm:

Zwelgje Dec 07, 2002, 05:12 PM 183 :(
Celeron 500 running at 501! :D
I had safety issues with IE and Outlook. I never use Outlook and IE only for the PCpitstop site. They also said I had to defrag my HD but my computer says it's fine.
And it complained I only had 64 Mb RAM, yeah tell me about it you muthaf....;)
God Dec 08, 2002, 07:09 PM Whoopee, 150! :D
This was on the older computer which is in my room.
Celeron 500 mhz, 191 ram, Integrated video, Win 98. The thing felt that the hard drive and security were a major problem. Internet security had been put down incase by me incase the program would get screwed up. C Drive, barely any space left. I think I have 500mb of space left on the C Drive.
Ok otherwise. I'll try it on the main PC which is a P3, 866mhz, 256 mb ram, 40 GB HD, Integrated video 14mb. Much more powerful than what I have.
gonzo_for_civ Dec 08, 2002, 07:47 PM I'm gonna go over to a friend's house in a while. While I'm there I'll test his new P4 3 GHz machine...it's pretty decked out. I haven't tested any of my nicer machines but that's not exactly on top of my priority list.
Chieftess Dec 08, 2002, 11:10 PM I ran a full test, got a score of 33. Of course, this is a cranky old system that I bought on campus years ago. The main problems are the hard drive (nearly full, and who knows what 3 other students put on there... not to mention there's programs/files with double bit ASCII), and the monitor (shut up Gonzo! :p), which seems to be on permanent safe mode after I tried to install Oracle. Luckily, it's a dual boot OS (multilingual - one of the reasons I got it. I was studying Japanese, too).
The other OS works, though, but IE and Netscape don't seem to be responding to MSDialup... So, I'm forced to use an odd Trumpet Winsock setup...
Like I said, it's a cranky old system.

It's a pretty poor system, but it worked for college. My programming computer would do MUCH better. :D

I bet I could have gotten better results if I had shut down that UD Agent. It keeps CPU load at 100% at all times.

Panzar75 Jul 16, 2003, 07:19 PM It complained a little about my configuration of Win XP and of course the fragmentation of c: but I knew that already. Been a while since my last defrag. Anyway, 1175 is okay I guess.
JoeP Jul 16, 2003, 08:32 PM SiSoft Sandra performance tune up is great, too.
i burned in my CPU at 110% once.. let's just say my 1.3GHz t-bird Athlon doesn't like 1.3GHz anymore.. ouch. It's stable at 1.24GHz, though (phew!)
