View Full Version : What if Canada mass produced nuclear arms?

Ahhhhh the little known fact of Canada (so little-known I know very little about it- so bear with me).

Back in the day (the Cold War days) Canada was in a perfect position to mass produce nuclear arms. We had the resources, and technology and the labour to accomplish this. The only thing that stopped us were the Americans. They agreed to sell us all the weapons we would ever need, as long as we don't produce any ourselves.

Question: What if Canada had mass produced nuclear weapons?

I'm thinking we would have nuked something by accident, or would have had a multitude of warheads stolen from the canoes.

But seriously, I don't think it would have mattered, depending on what time period you are talking about. Is it the 50s or the 80s? If it was the 50s, it would probably have scared Russia even more, but if it was the 80s, it wouldn't have mattered.

If Canada did, I think Russian commandos could have easily sabotaged an operation like that. Canada is not the most secure nation.

If they succeeded, Canada would probably be a superpower (What a horrifying thought).

We could impose peacekeeping values and igloo construction techniques onto the rest of the world!

Sanctions would be put in place, as well as a no-fly-zone.

UN Weapons Inspectors would be sent in under threat of force from the US and UK, while a public relations campaign for invasion was waged by said nations.

I dont know the ending yet though...

Prehaps if we had decided to build nuclear weapons we would have kept the initiative to maintain a military to protect the weapons. We would have a huge problem today with terrorists sneaking here to steal nuclear weapons, drive them across the border, and make a statement.

*faints* Don't even put that thought into my head. A Canadian with a nuke! We're doomed! j/k. I think Canadians r cool.

You say Canada is not the most secure nation, but if they had nukes, then there would be LOTS more security. If there wasn't the USA would perform a "peacekeeping" operation on Canada.

Oh, I'm pretty sure we haven't. If we had, we'd have infinitely more dignity and self-respect, and you would all have to like it that way...

It is good that Canada did not do that. If it had, Canada would probably have gone bust like the USSR did; and the USA may yet do so.

Developing nukes didn't do much for the economy in Britain, China, France, India, Israel, N Korea or Pakistan either.

Then we would have some more nukes in the world, but i dont think it would affect anything.
