Edited out the email adresses.
ProPain Dec 10, 2002, 12:12 PM The game has begone. Xerxes has founded Persepolis which will forever be the oldest and most glorious city in this new world (unless one of you buggers razes it off course :) )
anarres Dec 10, 2002, 12:29 PM I presume that each person plays the game and emails it on manually to the next one? Sorry about the newbie question
Oh, one more: how much will it mess up the game when I can't play at all this Sunday? (I don't think my younger brother would forgive me for missing his birthday - he'll be 21...)

Don't worry Anarres! :) Just check your mail on a regular basis and play ASAP. This game won't die because of one day. Remember there are 8 players so progress will be slow. We use MSN for contacting other players when you want to.
How to play a PBEM:
When you recieve a game: copy it in the saves folder and open PTW and click load game on the main menu. Locate the savegame and load it. After you finish your turn you are prompted te save the game and exit, sent de savegame to the next player this completes the cycle.
First time you give up a password (for yourself, write it down). Each time you recieve the game you will be asked for it.
anarres Dec 10, 2002, 12:52 PM PLEASE DO NOT DISPLAY MY EMAIL WITHOUT SOME ANTI-SPAM TEXT IN THERE
Sorry about caps, but this is urgent. You can use this format for displaying in the post:
civ3PBEM_AT_danwilliamson.net
I get legitimately paranoid about my personal email being displayed on public pages on the internet. I have had to close previous email accounts because of spiders picking it up from usenet and other forums. 200 spams a day is not nice.
Edit: The next time you don't see an 'edit' sign you will know I have learnt to spell
ProPain Dec 10, 2002, 01:27 PM NP anarres, edited it right away. Not to keen on having my email on the web myself.
If others feel the same about their adres just let me know
ERIKK Dec 10, 2002, 01:46 PM Just make sure LT Killer M. knows where to sent his game to!
anarres Dec 10, 2002, 03:21 PM Thanks ProPain :)
Also, if I am not able to recieve on my normal email, you can always use my normal spam-mail address:
danwilliamson_AT_hotmail.com
ProPain Dec 10, 2002, 03:56 PM Erikk, I'm not so much worried about lt. killer knowing where to send his mail but I do worry if you know how send it to lt Killer in the first place.
Anarres: don't you love your hotmail spam? free diploma's, advertisements for products in languauges you can't even understand, and of course the daily truckload of porn pages trying to persuade you to give them your credit card number (is this why it's called hotmail??).
Where do these people actually live from?
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 11, 2002, 02:30 AM folks, why do I display an email address in my sig? So you can look at it and enjoy the colors?
use it, please ;)
anarres: no sweat, I can decipher this ;)
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 11, 2002, 02:33 AM oh, one other important thing: as we all know the display fot hings that happened isn't there - so we should email the 'victim' if we do something to someone! Otherwise people loose units and never know how! There is a huge difference bewteen a unit dying from disease and by the swords of someone elses units :)
ProPain Dec 11, 2002, 02:47 AM Well now at least it's obvious that I never pay attention to anyones sig. Especially those colorfull, large font ones I tend to ignore ;)
I'll paste your email in killer.
anarres Dec 11, 2002, 03:16 AM Can we agree of the information about battles we should post?
For example, it Lt. 'Killer' M attacks my spearman with 3 swordsmen, only killing it on the last, there should be a post here saying exacly that. It is important to me that 2 swordsmen died first before the last one killed it.
Any objections, or are things done differently in PBEM games?
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 11, 2002, 03:21 AM anarres: we should include everything the other player would see in Civ3! This includes passing units and ships, or units of a third party killed IMO.
Matrix Dec 11, 2002, 04:26 AM Game sent to Kemal. :)
Good starting position. :D

anarres Dec 11, 2002, 04:59 AM If we allow off-line deals to be negotiated (to speed it up in game turns), can we agree that you are not allowed to offer something you don't have?
For example, if this rule were not in effect, I could offer Matrix Democracy to see what he will offer back, even if I don't have Democracy. As I could refuse whatever he offered me, Matrix would never know if I had it or not. If Martix thought I was lying about my offer he might lie back - this would then become a war of propaganda and ruin the off-line offers totally.
This kind of tactic is a low one in my opinion, and shouldn't be allowed. I think off-line offers should only be made from your available resources.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 11, 2002, 06:13 AM anarres: i agree: no lying!
Kemal Dec 11, 2002, 06:45 AM On its way to Redwatch.
I agree with the no-lying policy. Making false offers would really ruin the game, so let's keep it "civilized" ;).
On my starting position: Why do I never get cows? There isn't really much to tell this early in the game though, maybe there's tons of luxuries and cows waiting around the corner. :)
ProPain Dec 11, 2002, 09:52 AM no lying  There go my tactics.
Kidding, I agree too
anarres Dec 11, 2002, 10:23 AM So what difficulty level is this game? I have read elsewhere that it defaults to a really easy level - this is essential to know for happiness levels.
It's gonna be weird if I can grow to size 2 without a police unit...

It is set on Monarch but there seems to be a bug that sets every game to chieftain....
Game sent to LT Killer M. I have a good starting location too! :goodjob:
anarres Dec 11, 2002, 11:58 AM This is going to be a very weird game - can't wait for my first turn...
ProPain Dec 11, 2002, 12:06 PM As Erikk wrote I set the game to monarch level but there's a bug in PBEM and hotseat that changes the level. Personally I have only experienced chieftain level being set, but I also read posts of people who only get deity setting. Go figure. My best educated guess is we get chieftain because thats what I always get when I make a game. So don't worry about hapiness and mil police too much.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 11, 2002, 12:12 PM got it, playing!
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 11, 2002, 12:15 PM :aargh: someone must have used 'Load'. I see American units, then they disappear and I get Babylon (ended turn, can change production), then I get to play all players when i press return!!!!
btw: bad starting loc for scnadinavia :( only 1 good tile.
ERIKK Dec 11, 2002, 12:21 PM Killer, I did save&exit! As I always do!
What did you do?
ProPain Dec 11, 2002, 12:23 PM Killer did you load it from the start menu or from another single player game?
You should always load from the start menu and never from another game because than happens what happened to you.
ERIKK Dec 11, 2002, 12:23 PM killer come to the chat room! (CFC)
Matrix Dec 11, 2002, 12:24 PM Alas. I think we should start again...
ProPain Dec 11, 2002, 12:25 PM NOOOOO, my beautifull location ruined.
ERIKK Dec 11, 2002, 12:26 PM No restart, Killer can easely load it again, but then from the load menu!
ProPain Dec 11, 2002, 12:28 PM Good enough for me, if he plays on just like he would without seeing the map.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 11, 2002, 12:36 PM hmmm I did use the menu.... I'll try exiting PTW all the way, then restart it from desktop.....
sorry, Chat is a :nono: because of the firewall here (am at work).
edit: OK worked after exiting PTW all the way. Weird, didn't have that with my other PBEM.....
ERIKK Dec 11, 2002, 12:46 PM OK, now forget everthing you saw! ;) Just kidding, but it is a wise lesson for all other players!
A wise man once said "Always play PBEM with a 'clean' PTW"
Kemal Dec 11, 2002, 12:53 PM Did you see much of the other players, Killer?
If you know the location of their starting positions on the minimap, I think it would be best to do a restart, since we're only at turn one. Not that I think you do not play fair but it will influence your early exploration and a restart may be warranted because of it. (That and the not so great starting location of France ;) )
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 11, 2002, 01:04 PM  I remember the following (I certainly tried not to look): starting locations are spread out as they should be on a normal 8 player map.
that is, gimme a map and I can point to locations with a high confidence. But I can do that with any black map ;)
no, I tried not to look, I kept my eyes to the unit window.
Kemal Dec 11, 2002, 02:04 PM Too bad. ;)
Well, we should just continue to play this game then, and I'll just envy the players that have started in cow-wonderland. :)
anarres Dec 11, 2002, 02:24 PM Got it, just about to play.
There is a new potential exploit in PTW. You can now unload armies again
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38929
We need to decide if this should be banned in this game. I say ban it.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 11, 2002, 02:41 PM ban it!
ProPain Dec 11, 2002, 02:46 PM Xerxes says:ban it.
Matrix Dec 12, 2002, 12:53 AM Ok, in that case we just play on. Killer, if I see you at my doormat before 3600 BC... :slay:
About the exploit: Of course ban it. What is not ment to be, should not happen.
Redwatch Dec 12, 2002, 01:14 AM I agree, ban it. And no lying. Damn... i thought in war everything was alloud.... well ok.
ProPain Dec 12, 2002, 01:27 PM Clint, please resend your turn I got a mail without attachment
anarres Dec 13, 2002, 06:14 PM It's been over 48 hours since I played 4000BC. I suppose I'm just going to have to get used to the timescale...
ERIKK Dec 14, 2002, 04:15 AM This takes absurd long! Where is this game?
Kemal Dec 14, 2002, 04:38 AM I still haven't recieved turn 2 yet, so I guess it's still with Propain/Clint.
Propain, if you've already mailed it please send it again because I'm starting to suffer from cold turkey. ;)
Redwatch Dec 14, 2002, 05:10 AM If it is with Clint, you guys have to wait another day, he's in London, returns on sunday
Matrix Dec 14, 2002, 09:00 AM Drat. How often is he unavailable?
Redwatch Dec 15, 2002, 10:19 AM not that often, but in weekends and holidays i guess we all move out sometimes.... gonna be nice in the summer time.... You know it when you start a game with that many people. I don't mind, get used to it: you'll be gone for sometime also during this play.
ProPain Dec 15, 2002, 11:04 AM It;s still with clint, haven;t received the attachment yet
ProPain Dec 16, 2002, 10:02 AM got it, played it, mailed it. You're up Matrix
The industrious Persians have immediately started to improve their lands. They want to grow big and powerfull quick and let their immortals roam the lands.
anarres Dec 16, 2002, 10:26 AM For anyone here who wants a faster PBEM game, I have started the 4th Agent Orange PBEM game (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39352)
anarres Dec 16, 2002, 01:27 PM 5 days and counting since first turn...
...if this doesn't change we will still be in the BCs this time next year
Matrix Dec 17, 2002, 04:43 AM Got it, played it, and sent it. :D Finally. ;)
ERIKK Dec 17, 2002, 12:10 PM To Killer! :)
Strange people showed us some interesting things... ;)
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 17, 2002, 01:30 PM otw (on the way),
tested the load thing again - I need to comepletely restart PTW for this to work right..... :(
anarres Dec 17, 2002, 04:43 PM set to clint.
does everyone get 1st for most of the F11 screen? ;)
ProPain Dec 18, 2002, 03:27 PM Anarres: Yep:press F11 and feel like a civ 3 crack!
ERIKK Dec 21, 2002, 11:50 AM Haven't seen a save in four days now....
anarres Dec 22, 2002, 08:07 AM *yawn*
So where is it?
ProPain Dec 22, 2002, 09:53 AM I have it. Got it from clint yesterday and will play it after diner. Need to hook up the laptop
ERIKK Dec 23, 2002, 11:27 AM Well, it finally arrived in my mailbox 10 minutes ago.... The save was called "PSV Winterkampioen" and the #1 city under F11 was the French city of "Doffe Ellende"
To Killer!

And rightfully so!!
ProPain Dec 31, 2002, 10:06 AM Good news! On the brink of entering a new year irl, our pbem has entered a new year too!
Hard working Persian peasants continu to work hard on the land this next year in their effort to propell persians civilization to new heights.
Happy new year to you all!
ProPain
anarres Jan 07, 2003, 12:45 PM Where is it????
This is gonna die real soon....
ProPain Jan 07, 2003, 12:59 PM Dont fear it will start again. DDPP 1 has shifted back in to gear 2 days ago and is doing a turn a day again.
I have high hopes for this one as well
ProPain Jan 08, 2003, 03:09 AM Matrix, have you played the turn i sent you?
Matrix Jan 08, 2003, 03:50 AM Last turn I sent to Kemal was 3850 BC.
Kemal Jan 08, 2003, 06:33 AM I have played the 3850 turn and have mailed it to Redwatch, looks like this game is back in business!
Redwatch Jan 09, 2003, 04:54 AM I'll play it tonight, around 17:30 or... 23:00
ERIKK Jan 09, 2003, 10:55 AM To killer!
Lt. 'Killer' M. Jan 09, 2003, 02:23 PM aaaaaaaaaah!
ProPain Jan 09, 2003, 02:25 PM It's official, this game is not dead!
Lt. 'Killer' M. Jan 09, 2003, 02:28 PM anarres: caution! someone turned 'wait at end of turn' off in this game!
anarres Jan 09, 2003, 02:50 PM Sent turn 4 on to clint.
Killer - I didn't read this till after my turn
I have put in the email to clint that he should turn the option on again.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Jan 09, 2003, 03:10 PM sorry, anarres, I should have put that into the mail
anarres Jan 09, 2003, 03:56 PM hehe. No worries. It's not as though there is much to do on turn 4 anyway :)
Lt. 'Killer' M. Jan 09, 2003, 04:08 PM well i would ahve liked to looka t one of the advisor screens, but I couldn't!
ProPain Jan 15, 2003, 01:54 AM I still don't have the game, it appears to be stuck at Clint. I'll email him today.
anarres Jan 15, 2003, 03:24 AM Clint emailed me yesterday and said that when he opened the game and ended the turn it moved on to the next player.
I emailed back and said to exit to the PTW main menu to load PBEM games, so we should see some movement on this today...
ProPain Jan 15, 2003, 07:51 AM Maybe end of turn wait is off and he has no workers/warriors to move.
That would mean his turn ends immediately but nothing is wrong.
anarres Jan 15, 2003, 08:18 AM Sorry - should have been clearer. He said it actually let him play as the other players...
Sounded like he opened it from within another game which a known problem.
ProPain Jan 24, 2003, 05:29 PM Ok people, I mailed everyone on monday and got 3 reactions out of 7. For me this means the majority isn't interested any more. No hard feelings, the game had just started anyway.
Here's what I'm gonna do : Kill this one, start a new one (is it that simple, you ask me? Yes it is!). Nice fringe benefit from restarting: we can have harder AI's now!
So the 2nd Agent Orange game is reborn and will now be known as Agent Orange game 2B (or not 2b that is the question! How apropriate).
I'm taking entries again. plz react if you wanna rejoin but only if your serious.
THE KING IS DEAD, LONG LIVE THE KING!
Lt. 'Killer' M. Jan 25, 2003, 03:12 AM propain: didn't get your email :(
that is IIRC.....
ProPain Jan 25, 2003, 03:44 AM LOL
I'm sure you got it Killer, you even replied to it! (20/1/03 15:36 CET, you answered me)
But please rejoin.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Jan 25, 2003, 04:02 AM what?
I am too busy
Yes I re-join, do you have a thread yet?
anarres Jan 25, 2003, 04:51 AM Me in. :D
I think you are right to restart ProPain.
Kemal Jan 25, 2003, 05:28 AM I'll play again too, hope my starting location won't force me to rename my capital again. :)
Are we going to change our tribes too? I'd like to change mine to Russia, if possible. If we're going to have AI's I vote to make it hard for us and set difficulty to deity, emperor. (And also if we don't have AI because it will make research harder).
anarres Jan 25, 2003, 05:44 AM Kemal - the human difficulty appears to be Regent when this methd is used to set the AI difficulty.
In my game with ERIKK the research at least appears to be higher than cheiftain, but not as high as deity.
I am using Grey Fox's tech calc to compare tech prices as they should be and what we get in the game.
Edit: The really weird thing though is that the citizen happiness is definately cheiftain. Very weird. I will know more in a few turns...
Matrix Jan 25, 2003, 09:00 AM Never mind about me in this game. All the PBEM's in my sig got a certain significance for me, but not the second and third Dutch PBEM's.
But have fun nevertheless! ;)
ERIKK Jan 25, 2003, 09:15 AM I will join again!
ProPain Jan 26, 2003, 10:25 AM Ok, there are 5 of us now, I'll wait untill around 21:00 CET (app. 3 hours from now) and then I'll fix us up a new game and a new thread.
Considering there are 5 of us I'd say we play without AI's. Would be to much of a difference having AI neighbours or not. If people wanna change civ that's ok with me, just post in this thread. I'll try to set difficulty higher anyway so we have less happy citizens.
col Jan 26, 2003, 11:54 AM I'm in for another pbem game if there's room
Babs or random please
Plux Jan 26, 2003, 12:27 PM I'd like to join too if I'm still in time before the deadline
ProPain Jan 26, 2003, 02:19 PM I'm gonna start it now, Col and Plux you're both on time
ProPain Jan 26, 2003, 02:40 PM A new thread has been started :
Agent Orange 2B PBEM Thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42727)
Please use this new thread from now on.
Matrix May 25, 2003, 06:36 AM I used the bug: loading a game from the menu in a game instead of frmo the main menu to obtain this map. ;)
