Flatlander Fox Dec 11, 2002, 03:38 PM I voted 1B, but played some CF and was our team's closer when I was in high school. I had an 84 MPH fastball for maybe 30 pitches. Then my arm would DIE. If I threw too many split fingered fastballs my elbow would creak, which would reduce my fastball to a slow change. WildFire Dec 12, 2002, 11:05 AM I play all positions except for ss and catcher. I play on the jv team for my high school team. (sophomore) gr8ful wes Dec 12, 2002, 11:40 AM I played 2nd. I gravitate to the outfield in pick-up games now. Or the keg. Chieftess Dec 13, 2002, 01:29 PM Does softball count? ;) I played catcher and Right Field (it was an even split). I played at 2nd base once or twice in my ten year rubber ball/softball "career". (from 5 to 15) tcjsavannah Dec 13, 2002, 02:15 PM Pitcher. Mean knuckleball and I've got a rubber arm, can throw all day, but couldn't break a pane of glass in a 40 mph wind... Flatlander Fox Dec 13, 2002, 02:40 PM I hated the knuckleball... I stopped practicing it because no one would get in the box when I tried to throw it. Same thing with my pseudo-slider... Playing first base was always interesting, only because I'm righthanded, which makes for some crazy plays at times. K-Man Dec 13, 2002, 07:17 PM Maybe this is a stupid question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. I live up in Canada, and apparently our version of baseball that I play is a lot different than the American version. I therefore ask anyone out there who can answer this to enlighten me, and anyone else who plays a different version of the game: Where's 4th base? Archer 007 Dec 13, 2002, 08:23 PM I play left field. They put me there cause not many balls go that way. Cantankerous Dec 14, 2002, 12:06 AM Originally posted by K-Man Maybe this is a stupid question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. I didn't realize there were different "versions" of baseball. Baseball is played all around the world (especially in North and Central America, the northern parts of South America, the Carribbean, and Eastern Asia), and all of those places play the game almost identically. Any game that uses a "4th base" is obviously not a different "version" of baseball. It is an altogether different game. Cantankerous Dec 14, 2002, 12:08 AM Oh and I'm much more comfortable in the infield. Generally 2nd base, but I like 3rd base as well. But these days it more slow-pitch softball instead of actual baseball. Ming Dec 14, 2002, 02:57 AM Where do I vote for manager ;) I was the only manager that ever took our Advertising League Softball Team to the championship ;) I did play second base part time and batted 750, but all singles ;) Chieftess Dec 14, 2002, 08:04 AM Yeah, I noticed that after posting... (was a bit busy to edit). Where's 4th base?? And batter would be DH. Ming Dec 14, 2002, 10:24 AM Originally posted by Chieftess Where's 4th base??        Thanks for pointing that one out. I never noticed that :goodjob: YEAH, and where is 4th Base... puglover Dec 14, 2002, 11:05 AM That was the humor in the poll! jiml_63 Dec 16, 2002, 10:00 AM I pitched every other game and played SS when not pitching...alas, I couldn't hit a curve ball so I never made it past American Legion ball... Flatlander Fox Dec 16, 2002, 12:49 PM Good to see you back around Jim! :goodjob: Curves never gave me too much trouble, but I troubles with inside pitching (pulling). But I can switch hit, which meant that I got hit alot... Which just compounded my problems with inside pitching. A never ending cycle. :) jiml_63 Dec 18, 2002, 12:05 PM Thanks Fox...relocated so it has been a while getting reestablished...it's good to be back.... Flatlander Fox Dec 18, 2002, 12:52 PM Good deal, hope I can catch you for some MP sometime. Marlos Dec 20, 2002, 03:00 PM I was a pitcher in high school (half of a lifetime ago), and a pretty mediocre one at that. I had a knuckle-curve, but had difficulty getting two strikes on someone to throw it! But I am lefthanded, so I still managed to make a few teams. I play softball with my church team, and have played everywhere except 2B. I am usually in the outfield. Alcibiaties of Athenae Dec 20, 2002, 03:38 PM Pitched and played CF. Was offered a scholarship to Chirst the King HS in my home town of NY, best HS baseball in the US. Turned it down though, I had other plans back then. |
