KaeptnOvi Dec 12, 2002, 08:43 AM look here for the article: http://www.uefa.com/uefa/news/Kind=128/newsId=46157.html
:goodjob: that way we will at least be able to take part at the eurochampionships again ;)
Hitro Dec 12, 2002, 08:51 AM Congratulations.
Hmm, now even two places will be preoccupied. :hmm:
Well if "Nordic 2008" would have been chosen that would have been four...
Anyway, that opens up the possibility to be close to alot of football, first 2006 then 2008. :D :goodjob:
MCdread Dec 12, 2002, 08:55 AM I was about to post it too. I suported the Greek-Turkish bid, but I guess this one is allright. It's certainly better than Nordic 2008 or Scotland-Ireland.
Congratulations.
willemvanoranje Dec 20, 2002, 01:24 PM I think it was the best possibility together with the Nordic countries. Croatia and Bosnia couldn't have possibly believed they would get it.
IceBlaZe Dec 22, 2002, 12:11 PM Very bad News.
Nothing against Switzerland... Just Austria.
Hitro Dec 22, 2002, 01:13 PM What have the poor Ösis done to you? ;)

Well Iceblaze, I could guess your reason for the dislike, but I think you could very well re-evaluate your feelings for switzerland.../ot
I think it's a good thing. The austrian football hasn't been very strong lately (saw some reports on the down side some months ago...), but this can be a push in the right direction. Teams like Sturm Graz have had their impact on the European scene.
And not to mention the swiss contender in the CL! :goodjob:
I hope this is a motivation for the austrian players in particular (haven't much hope for the swiss...): ditch that ass of a coach, and take your time to build a team in Korean style!
rapid Dec 27, 2002, 04:00 AM Hans Krankel is not the best coach, but he has good connections to the media and to those, who decide about our coach. they have offered him a contract until 2008:mad:
i don`t see any future for the austrian football, but that doesn`t matter. i can see footballs best close to me 2006 in munich and 2008 in salzburg and vienna! :)
@ICeBLAZe:What is your problem with Austria? We are far less antisemitic than France or Germany.

You are the only country who didn't went through a significant change in the education and social systems after the holocaust.
Plus, a large part of your population voted for a declared Nazi sympathiser who illegaly inherited most of his property from Jews who were banned from Austria during WW2.
Globber Jan 06, 2003, 03:42 PM Hey, they should build the stadium in the Alps and play in the snow! :D I never have seen a football game in the snow...
Crimson Sunrise Jan 07, 2003, 12:55 AM Co-hosting is very popular now, isn't it? First Netherlands / Belgium for Euro 2000, then Japan / Korea for the 2002 World Cup; we just had Singapore / Indonesia for the Tiger Cup, and now this.
I'd like to see Malaysia and Singapore co-host the World Cup at some point. They're both improving teams and would make good co-hosts in the future. Asian football is worth supporting, in my honest opinion. And they both have a history of successful hosting of large sporting events, such as the Commonwealth Games and the SEA Games.
willemvanoranje Jan 07, 2003, 12:20 PM  Yeah well, some strange guy over here said Holland could host a world cup in 10 years (but I think after 2006 the WC of 2018 will be the first held in Europe)...anyway, I don't think there will be a World Cup here anyway, nor Olympics.
Dell19 Jan 07, 2003, 12:36 PM The problem with joint hosting, is when both the hosts would be unlikely to qualify for the tournament. At least Japan and S Korea could say they probably would have qualified anyway.
willemvanoranje Jan 07, 2003, 12:51 PM nowadays holland can't be all sure of that anymore...we've been put on the ground with both are feet late 2001....
Dell19 Jan 08, 2003, 06:52 AM But Holland would still be expected to qualify and Belgium are a likely qualifier as well.

You haven't?
willemvanoranje Jan 08, 2003, 08:39 AM  ya, you must live some hot place. Never even seen european matches in snow? And I think pretty much every stadium over there is in the Alps, especially the Swiss ones.
Shabbaman Jan 08, 2003, 09:08 AM Even then: just check some Champions League Dynamo Kiev home pitch action.
They even play with a pink ball... wussies!
Rhye Jan 14, 2003, 02:46 PM Congratulations to Austria and Switzerland
lord_byron_nz Jan 15, 2003, 06:12 AM Co-hosting allows smaller countries to become hosts, and thats good for the world game. It's a global trend too. If your're taking a cup to a big place, might as well give smaller neighbours a few games as well. There has been talk off a joint NZ/Australia bid for the Football WC. Also, i read on teletext the other day that Quebec and NY State were considering a joint Olympic bid.
calgacus Jan 16, 2003, 08:47 PM It's a tad unfair that all three German states get tournaments in a short period of 2 years. German bias?
I'd much rather the Championship went to the Celtic bid, or at least, to the Greece/Turkey bid or even the Russian bid, since all of these countries are more important in footballing terms and have not previously hosted a major international football tournament. The decision was, quite frankly, a joke - but I'm not laughing
willemvanoranje Jan 17, 2003, 02:06 PM I think you can hardly call Switzerland a German state. If you say all three I'd guess you meant Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein. I think the Swiss are just as much French, and some Italian as well.

GARBAGE!!! :) Swizerland is 65% German. Swizerland is overly associated with being French, the vast majority are German. I know the Swiss aren't German like the Austrians, but it's still unfair. Do you think it's fair?
Sorry for missing Liechtenstein, but it's too small.
willemvanoranje Jan 18, 2003, 04:57 AM  Allright, and Liechtenstein probably doesn't even have a stadium with 20.000 seats. I don't know any French Swiss, just some German Swiss, but I guess indeed they're more German then.
