The announcement is for finished creations only. That does include public betas of scenarios. Please note: No discussions in this thread about the merits of items submitted. Keep that to the item's own thread. Questions and so on about the format for announcements, etc. are of course allowed.

Required Format for Submissions
If you would like your new or updated CiV file included in the front-page news, make a post in the following format:
ATTENTION, new posting scheme:

For the future, please post in the following way:

If there are multiple modders, please name them all.
If you use the database link or the forum thread is up to you.
If you have a nice image, then please include it in the post. Size does not matter, but if there's nothing recognizable in it after being shrinked to a width of 125 or 250 px then it will probably not be included.
If possible images are obvious in the linked thread/database entry, then there's no need to include them again in the post here, I'll grab them from there.
If it's not obvious to which category it belongs (e.g. units, mods, maps), then please say in the post what it is.
If there's something really important about this file/the update, then please also state it, but not more than 2 sentences please.

How to properly display a long link:

YOU INSERT A SPACE
The key is to insert a space between the bracket & the http.

None of these methods is any better than another. It just depends on which one is easier for you to understand & use. Personally, I prefer the post= method because I only have to remember to begin with and end with . But other people may find one of the other methods easier. Hopefully at least one of those makes sense & seems simple enough to put to use.



Guidelines for Previews
Three options to get a picture in the preview gallery:

Put the preview you want in the post you link to
In your post here put a separate, clearly labeled, link to the preview you want
Or, as part of your post in this thread, include the preview you want



Please post previews with at least one dimension in easy to manage sizes as listed below. Previews in irregular sizes may not get used at all, especially when time is tight. Screenshots are fine - but are subject to arbitrary chopping & scaling to reduce them to a dimension of 128, 256, 320, etc. If you've got multiple items, you can combine these standard sizes into larger images. I seriously doubt anything larger than 320x320 will make it unscathed.

Any image without at least one dimension of 320 pixels or smaller may not be used at all. Larger images are very difficult to work with & do not show well in a small preview.

Make my work easy. Then the announcements get out more frequently because each time there’s a new batch it's quicker to do the announcement. Unique Trait: Lords of Exploration-Embarked units can defend and have +2 movement. In addition, land units move faster along rivers.

Unique Unit: One of the first gunpowder units of the game. Only the Portuguese may build it. This Unit has a combat bonus outside of friendly territory, unlike the Musketman which it replaces. In addition, it can build forts and trading posts.

Unique Building: Each luxury resource worked by this City produces +1 Gold. The Feitoria also increases a city's Defense.

The result is that when I CnP there's going to be an incomplete URL used for the link. The majority of the submissions have this fault as of now. If that's what you want leave it as is. If you actually want people to be able to link to your work please correct it.

a solution I use in my own links is to substitute
[post= #] for [URL="http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=#"] and of course /post instead of /URL inside the ending brackets.

EDIT: note that [post= #] is the whole code needed. Also, it works for both showthread & showpost commands.

To show whole URL, add an extra space into the URL tag It's a subtle difference, but look what CommanderZ typed as opposed to you:

Before anyone starts thinking I'm being arbitrary read this post by Plotinus who has a lot of experience making announcements. If you read the whole discussion through to the end you'll see that most everyone who initially opposed my guidelines ended up supporting them.

This is my first Civilization mod and for that reason I wanted to see what can be accomplish with the SDK's and API. Therefore I tried to make the mod as dynamic and modular as possible so it's easy to build on it in the future. This also enabled me to give the end user much more power to optimize the mod to their liking. As no Civ core files are changed or required this mod should be compatible with any other mod.

Thanks. CommanderZ deserves credit for the "extra space" solution that works with downloads & attachments. The "post =" solution I posted I learned by asking someone else a long time ago. So that nameless person deserves some thanks as well.

If things go well I should be putting an announcement together tomorrow. I'll make an "official" post to let everyone know when work begins. Which will be the cutoff point for submissions. Anything posted after that goes into the next round.

What's new in this version?: This mod is a complete overhaul of the city-state diplomacy system that reduces the importance of the 'Gifts of Gold' and introduces a new, unit-based system of influence. Players are now encouraged to build and use diplomatic units and/or complete city-state quests if they want to earn influence. Because diplomacy now requires production, time and energy, players must actively and consciously strive to maintain good relations with neighboring city-states. What's new in this version?:

-Added unique player color and art resources for Portugal.
-Switched out the fast river movement in favor of granting +1 Great Merchant point per turn and free Great Merchant when you research Astronomy.
-I cut the Explorador's Foreign Lands bonus, but gave them +1 movement and allowed them to make trading posts and all the luxury resource improvements, except for the quarry.
-Switched Feitoria to become a replacement for the Harbor that provides a slight increase to defense and grants +1 gold for each luxury resource worked by the city.
-I switched to Darius for the leaderhead stuff because he looks more like a king than Washington and speaks in a foreign language and so its less distracting and more immersive when you meeting him as an AI player.

In MediEVO (MEVO) you will play Civilization V focusing in the Medieval Era which I find fascinating. This is not a scenario, but a normal CivV game with modifications that will play mostly during the Medieval Times. It will have gameplay changes directed to give a better feel of playing during that period.

With the new combat system the units during this period are very well balanced and provide interesting battles. As the period remains unchanged mostly, the combat will seem more real. Also focusing on one era lets you enjoy the units and buildings without the constant fast science progress that makes thing obsolete before building them and creates situations with old vs new items.

So basically the game will start the same during the first to periods (ancient and classical), it should be fast. When entering Medieval Era speed will decrease GREATLY. The game will end by time in the year 1550, and the victory conditions will match to keep the balance. The total length of the game will try to be similar to the vanilla version in each of its speeds.

This mod will try to alter normal gameplay by giving the player control of a special civ. This civ has been changed to represent a barbarian civilization, forget about culture, you will never go to space, diplomacy only to delay the conquer... A lot of roleplay is involved to make it work, you should act merciless, pillage everything, raze cities and try to rule the world as soon as possible before the civilizations grow in power and technology.

I'd assume people would grab mods from the ingame mod browser simply because it is more convenient. So what is the reason to also upload it here?It's desirable, but not mandatory. Consider it an off-site back up, if nothing else. All publicly accessible databases sooner or later experience crashes, corruptions, dos attacks, and damage by hackers.

As a reminder, these types of posts do not belong in this thread. It is strictly for posting of items for announcement. There are other threads where the questions are more likely to be answered & where they are more likely to be seen by others who need the answers as well.

Those who feel I'm being arbitrary with the guidelines may appreciate another person's perspective:
So happy Christmas everyone! What a lot of good cheer there is going on here.

Well, since I have done the same work, I'll add a few comments.

People really don't appreciate how incredibly long it takes to make these announcements. When I did them I would often put it off for far too long, because doing it required having a free day to devote to a tiresome task. Of course, the longer I put it off, the more intimidating the task, because there were yet more files to announce. And the more I would put it off. I'm sure we've all experienced something like that.

It takes so long for two main reasons. The first is that simply assembling the text takes a long time and is tedious. You have to follow all of these links, copy and paste the URLs, get the file name and author name right, and categorise them. This is sometimes rendered harder not only by the contracted URLs that Blue Monkey talked about but by the fact that some authors give links to "library" threads containing many files (sometimes direct to the relevant post in that thread, sometimes just to the thread itself, forcing me to hunt through it) and some give links to threads devoted to a single file; some use showthread URLs and others use showpost URLs; some give links to forum threads, some to database pages, and some to the direct download from the database pages. I tried, and usually failed, to standardise these when compiling them into the announcement. Also, being an obsessive proof-reader, I worked hard to ensure that all files, authors, and comments were displayed in a consistent style, and that they were listed in a consistent order. Within category, I listed everything in the order in which it appeared in this thread - apart from different files by the same author, which were listed together, but within author they were again listed in chronological order. That takes time to do, and it also involves making more decisions: do unit packs, for example, get listed as single entries, or do all the units get their own entries? What about a "pack" of just two units? What about old, lost files that have been rescued and re-uploaded? This is why I fairly quickly abandoned the practice, which I initially followed, of adding comments of my own to each file. That just doubled the time.

The second reason it takes a long time is that the images take ages as well. First, like URLs, authors often don't provide these in an easily accessible way, let alone one that is consistent between everyone. Some are in BMP format, some in JPEG, and some in PNG. That's a trivial inconsistency. More problematic is the fact that some files, such as units and buildings, typically have a standard form, but not everyone follows it. Some people provide extra-large-size versions of the pedia icons. Some people provide not pedia icons at all, but enormous and very artistic renderings of the models they used with different backgrounds. Some people provide not icons but shots from within Poser of the model against a purple background. Some people provide frames from the animation. Some people provide large composite images displaying lots of units or buildings at once, which again can come in all sorts of formats (white pedia-style background, purple flic-style background, etc.). Some give composite images showing different files for single objects (e.g. images showing the large and small pedia icons next to each other), or add borders to their images, or explanatory text. With all of these I have to decide what to do with it - use it as it is, resize it, reshape it, cut bits out of it, or whatever. And some people don't provide static previews at all, which means I have to download the file itself, unzip it, locate the pedia image, and convert it. This takes time.

Even once the images have all been hunted down and put into something resembling the right format, it is still a long and difficult process to arrange them into a preview image. Usually there is not enough room for all of them, so I have to decide what is going in and what is being left out - with the proviso that the image has to look good, has to give a good sense of the range of files on offer, and has to be as fair as possible to everyone so that the work of as many different authors as possible is represented, and shown in as good a light as possible. Images that are "standard"-sized or shaped, such as standard pedia icons, are not hard to arrange in a tiling fashion, especially as they are fairly small. Larger ones such as wonder splashes are harder but are nice to get in as they usually look so impressive. Most problematic are any in-game shots, usually those showing terrain or cities, because the provided images are usually large and need to be cut down - but how much, to what size and shape, and where do they go in the image? I eventually developed the method of getting around some of this by shrinking some images down extra-small just to get them in, but again I had to be careful not to seem to be singling anyone's work out for that treatment. (And people still complained...)

Now I understand that when you've created something you want to see it up there with everything else. We are all creators here and we are all proud of what we've done, and if it seems that your work is not being properly acknowledged then that can be upsetting. But people do need to understand that making these announcements is really time-consuming, and while it may be fun to do for the first one or two, the novelty wears off very quickly. I remember people complaining about various aspects of how I'd done it, and I suggested that if they wanted to do one themselves I'd be very happy for them to do so, and nothing more would be heard on the subject. I found making these announcements by far the most tedious and annoying aspect of moderating and also the most thankless (well, perhaps with one or two exceptions which I won't discuss here). If Blue Monkey has particular guidelines that he wants creators to follow to streamline the process, then that's not only reasonable, it's entirely to everyone's benefit. It means he gets the tedious job done more quickly and pleasantly, and it means that announcements get posted more quickly and frequently, which in turn means that everyone has more of a chance of having their work displayed more often and more prominently. So please don't view this as an antagonistic issue or a conflict, but as a cooperative matter where different people have different roles and are there to help one another out.

Correct skins for japanese light tank and russian light tank
the M26 requires diesel and the heavy weapon factory to be build.

Hey The J, don't put my Version 5 update of Ancient World in the upcoming post because of upload issues. Until I get them fixed, there won't be any download link available, so its kinda a waste. I'll let you know when I'm ready to go again.

Mod's features :
Goal of this mod is to limit the late game to the late 60's with the units of the WW2 era.
For this some techs and units have been disabled, the tech tree has been reworked.
I have maintained the Space race and Spaceship project for the Science Victory.

Game change :
Insta heal has been removed.
Following techs have been disabled : Robotics, Satellites, Stealth, Lasers, Computers, Electronics, Particle Physics, Nuclear Fusion, Nanotechnology
Following units have been disabled : Nuclear Missile, Nuclear Submarine, Giant Death Robot, Mechanized Infantry, Missile Cruiser, Rocket Artillery, Helicopter Gunship, Modern Armor, Stealth Bomber, Jet Fighter (Modern), Mobile SAM, Cruise Missile.

Based on the 1066: Year of Viking Destiny official scenario, this mod adds a new building for England, the Domesday Shire Court, which provides 5 gold per turn; it becomes available with Mathematics and becomes obsolete with Economics.

After 6 Domesday Shire Courts have been built, a new project may be built at the capital, the Domesday Book, which provides 5% interest generation on treasury gold, as well as 6 culture per turn. The Domesday Book is likewise available with Mathematics.

This mod adds a new project, the Bacchanalia. It becomes available with the Calendar technology and like a wonder, the Bacchanalia can only be created by one player. The Bacchanalia requires that the player have access to Silk and Spices. When completed it grants +3 happiness per city.

The Bacchanalia was a set of rituals and celebrations to honor the Roman god Bacchus which included plays and songs as well as plenty of wine.

- Ethnic Units graphics : 250+ new unit models for diversity, no gameplay change. See newunits.xls in the mod's folder or forum thread on civfanatics website for details.
- Rescaling : all human and mounted units have been scaled down, no more giant infantry against tank ! Of course, the relative scale is nothing close to realism, but it does give a better sense of proportion. The sea and air units are rescaled the same way : relative to each other in their respective domain.
- Formation : most units have multiple figure, and the number of figures is raised in all human and mounted units. Existing formations have been reworked to reflect the change in scale, and 14 new formations have been added.

TSL maps by Gedemon are now playable in HotSeat, and that the same is in the works for the R.E.D modpackSorry, I've just realized I've not announced this one here, but it's not R.E.D. Modpack that will have hotseat, it's the already available Custom Advanced Setup Screen (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=458569) that allows hotseat (and save most map settings) for all mods (except scenario and custom maps).

Remote Mining from Redox included.

Thanks to Redox the Lumbermill will now give +1 timber when build on jungle or forest.
Those features and these improvement are now required to get timber.
The Lumberjack's Hut building has been deactivated
New Building : Commando Training Ground. Allows Commando, requires an Airbase and a Barrack. 1 free Commando upon completion.
Timber requirement for the Palisade removed.
The Motte and Bailey Castle requires a Palisade to be build.

Katyusha : Range up to 3, Cost down from 300 to 280, Combat Strengh (close combat) down from 30 to 21.

Fastbombers : Combat Strengh up to 50, Cost down to 400
Bombers : Cost up to 450
Range combat for the Longbowmen down to 13
Chariot Archer requires 1 timber like the other chariot units.
Rifleman strengh boosted to 40, lost the open terrain promotion.
The Palissade requires 1 timber
Goldmaintenance for Temple : 0
All Chariot units require 1 Timber (and 1 Horse as before)
Divebombers : RangeCombat up to 50

Many, many changes have been made to last year's mod, but the biggest is the addition of seven new unit classes, designed to fill in the holes in the existing unit lineup.
