View Full Version : 3rd Agent Orange PBEM game: the commitments
ERIKK Dec 14, 2002, 05:48 AM After some discussions on MSN about the recent delays in our first two PBEM games, between Kemal and Matrix and me, we decided to start a third Agent Orange™ PBEM game.
But this time we would like to enforce some commitments among the players: Just to make sure this time we will be able to keep the game on track (an average 1+ turn a day)!
- First and most important commitment is that every player must be able to play a turn a day (on regular days, not counting the holidays) or if possible; more.
- Second and less important commitment is that every player must be able to know what is going on in the game. I mean that you check the boards, MSN and your mail on a regular basis. Our experience after a couple of weeks is that things become a bit chaotic when a game "is lost".
- Third and minor commitment is that every player must let the others know when he or she will be away.
Agent Orange™ third PBEM game: The third Agent Orange™ PBEM game: the commitments
Game characteristics:
- no accelerated production
- version 114f
- mapsize: standard map
- a 6 player game most wanted, if 8 players live up to the commitments we will discuss it.
- standard barbs
- all victory conditions
GAME IS FULL
All times CET

Matrix Dec 14, 2002, 08:59 AM Erik, I thought the idea was more that the participants should in principle be able to play a turn at any time. I can usually play at any time, not only in the evening.

If that is the case, then I am out.... because I can't be available all the time. Daytime in a workweek is a no-no for me. If we put the playlist together in a smart way, we can avoid allday availabilities. I think here lies the ground to win!
Redwatch Dec 14, 2002, 09:55 AM Same for me, on day times i'm working.....
Plux Dec 14, 2002, 10:37 AM I don't understand what your trying to win with starting up three games with more or less the same players, if there is a supposed problem with the availability of these players in other games. I think the progress in PBEM 1 is ok, and if there is doubt in where the save is, it should be resolved by sending an e-mail to all, like we did today.
If you have three more or less the same players in the games, when one players delayes the progress, all games will be delayed. So your not gaining anything this way (apart from tripling your frustation on the progress of your PBEM's) I'll keep it to one Agent Orange PBEM. Good luck and have fun with the other two! :goodjob:
Simone1974 Dec 14, 2002, 01:06 PM Can I have a chance? :p
I already made a post in the clan thread, I'm in the ERIKK situation: I can play only in the evening (after 19 CET) but I can assure almost one turn a day: I control my emails also at work and before I go to sleep (23:30 - 24 CET), so make a single turn doesn't cause me any problem :)
I leave my information: deggesim, Mongols, simone1974@inwind.it, plays in evening (19 -> 24).
I hope I can join the group
Bye
Simone
ERIKK Dec 14, 2002, 02:55 PM @plux: you are right about the same persons = the same problems. Hopefully the playlist will make a difference. If players are lined up in a better way, it will help progress IMO. Next to that, having another game around is fun anyway. Last three days I was in two games but both were hooked up, which was/is frustrating. I share your hope that PBEM1 will start rolling again like in the first week. :goodjob:
Next to that, it is fun playing anyway!
@simone1974: I have signed you up!
DaEezT Dec 14, 2002, 03:56 PM I'd like to join in too!
One turn per day is no problem, I check my e-mails several times a day (habit that comes with studying CS) and have enough time to squeeze in a few turns every day :)
playing time would be mostly at evening when I come home from university (at around 19:00) or sometimes in the morning before I leave.
I got off on next monday and next week is the last week of university before we have 2 weeks xmas holidays so playing shouldn't be a problem.
I would play as the Japanese, E-Mail: DaEezT@t-online.de
I don't have any instant messangers (hate that crap) but I'm always on IRC when I'm online (or my PC is even when I'm not at home :p)
ERIKK Dec 14, 2002, 04:13 PM Welcome! More fresh blood! Signed you up!
Matrix Dec 14, 2002, 04:24 PM Ah well, I suppose it can't get any faster than one turn a day, so never mind what I said.
I'm still in, though. ;)
Plexus Dec 14, 2002, 06:27 PM Alright, I'm in... email is Enemysoldier88@yahoo.com
AIM: Nevermoreand
I should be able to get a few turns in per day...
I'll be be the Persians...
Eklektikos Dec 14, 2002, 07:07 PM Care to count me in? If so I'd like to play as the Chinese. 1 turn per day should prove no problem at all :goodjob:

I'me ready to fight :D
ERIKK Dec 15, 2002, 03:00 AM Hmmm..., Eklektikos is from the UK and Plexus is (I think) from the US. I'll put Plexus as last and Eklektikos in the evening. Eklektikos, the one who will have to sent the game to you will need your mailadress.
Matrix Dec 15, 2002, 03:59 AM Erik, why on earth did you sign up Kemal, while he has not even responded? I'll send it to him anyway, but we're not sure he wants to join...
Same for Redwatch. He only said he doesn't have as much time as I have...

Redwatch and Kemal both responded and want to join. I asked Kemal when you were also present, Redwatch through MSN while you were not there. Also: I think you sent me a mail but outlook crashed while importing, now it is gone. Please sent it again if it were you!
Redwatch Dec 15, 2002, 04:13 AM I mean that I'm not able to play through the day. On weekly days i can play 0800 / 1800 / 2200. So I want to join.
Simone1974 Dec 15, 2002, 05:11 AM ok, now that we are ready, when do we start?
If you want to contact me with MSN Messanger, also for realtime game, my email contact is the same I leave for this match! :goodjob:
Bye
Simone
DaEezT Dec 15, 2002, 12:12 PM The savegame is on it's way :D
I spent the last 15 min wondering why i couldn't load the game until i noticed that i put the savegame in the Civ3 Save folder instead of PTW...
Outlook won'T trick me again :goodjob:
ERIKK Dec 15, 2002, 12:20 PM Turn to Eklektikos, since I don't have your email yet  I have attached it here:
Kemal Dec 15, 2002, 01:54 PM Don't worry DaEezt, same thing happened to me when i tried to open my first game. I had no idea PTW had an additional saves folder. :crazyeye:
ERIKK: I see you are a tournament staff member now, congratulations on the appointment. :goodjob:
anarres Dec 15, 2002, 07:01 PM AAARRRRRRGGGGHHHH! Missed it!!
I just went to the CET PTW multyplayer converence corner to post that I wanted to start a game on exactly these lines.
Sh!t, I don't suppose there are any more decent CET players out there who missed this game but want to play along the same lines?

Anarres, I am very sorry, I though you wanted to join this game. But this game was full in a day. You can still start up a new game with these lines. Put me on the reserve list in that case. I am allready in three games now and guessed that was enough. If your game isn't full fast enough I will join that game anyway. Deal?
Ps:
Who has the PBEM3 save?
anarres Dec 16, 2002, 10:25 AM SPAM WARNING!
I have started the 4th Agent Orange PBEM game (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39352)
Simone1974 Dec 16, 2002, 12:03 PM Which is the game situation?
Is it already stopped? :(
After only the first turn!
DaEezT Dec 16, 2002, 01:10 PM dunno, I sent it and ERIKK, wo obviously got it, and after that it dissapeared in a time hole or something

Eklektikos Dec 16, 2002, 03:27 PM I mailed the game on to redwatch yesterday evening so I assume he has it, barring some kind of email cataclysm. My email address is eklektikos@bigfoot.com, btw. Sorry I forgot to supply it earlier! :o
Plexus Dec 16, 2002, 08:55 PM Off to Matrix.

Yea, I'm from the USA. I can play usually anytime... except when I'm sleeping or at school.
Simone1974 Dec 17, 2002, 02:01 AM Ok! :)
Please don't let die this match
Matrix Dec 17, 2002, 04:44 AM It's not dead. ;) Just sent it to Kemal. :)
ERIKK Dec 17, 2002, 12:38 PM To Eklektikos' mail!
Found a deserted hut
DaEezT Dec 17, 2002, 12:45 PM My proud japanese ppl are about to taste some wine :D
and as soon as they are drunk enough they'll start producing anime to confuse the other peoples :goodjob:
Eklektikos Dec 17, 2002, 02:29 PM On to Redwatch!
Eklektikos Dec 20, 2002, 12:40 PM Anyone happen to know where the save has got to now?
Simone1974 Dec 20, 2002, 03:03 PM I have not it! :(
Plexus Dec 20, 2002, 05:13 PM I just got it, I guess redwatch had it... off to Matrix.
ERIKK Dec 22, 2002, 02:05 PM To Eklektikos. Nothing happened ;)
Eklektikos Dec 22, 2002, 05:55 PM Erikk: Tried to play my turn just now, and PtW is claiming that the save you emailed me isn't a valid save file.
Not sure whether it got truncated when you attached it or if your copy of PtW hiccuped when it saved, but the file definitely seems to be a few Kb short of what I'd expected (about 6kb less than last turn's save). Could you try either just resending it, or replaying your turn and resending if that's still possible?
Matrix Dec 23, 2002, 02:09 AM You'd better email him if you haven't done that already, Eklektikos.
ERIKK Dec 23, 2002, 03:54 AM I will replay it tonight and send it again! Don't know what happened, everything seemed allright.... :(

The file was the same size as the others so I think something wend wrong uploading or downloading.
ERIKK Dec 31, 2002, 10:56 AM To eklektikos! Happy New Year!
Simone1974 Dec 31, 2002, 11:42 AM Happy New Year :) :goodjob:
Kemal Jan 09, 2003, 02:40 PM Now that the other presumed dead Agent Orange game (game 2)has been officially resurrected, how about getting this game on the move again.
Eklektikos, have you been able to play your turn and mail your game yet? If so, who has it now?
Ironically, this game was created to be the fastest of the Agent Orange games (game 3: the commitments) but it turns out to be the slowest moving of them all. ;)
Matrix Jan 09, 2003, 02:46 PM I don't really care about this PBEM. I'll play my turns, but that's that...
Kemal Jan 09, 2003, 02:55 PM Well, it's the only one I got a decent starting position in, in the other 2 the RNG has been a bit cruel to me.
But if people don't want to play this one anymore, since it is still so early in the game, please say so now so we can all focus our attention on other games, or participate in new ones instead of wasting energy on a game not all players are happy with.
I think that will be best for all players in the end.
@Matrix: nice sig you got now,

I agree. I think that I had in this a dramatic location too!

Are you kidding me? :ack: Saw the debate yesterday? In "Nederland kiest (NOVA)" Femke Halsema and Johan Remkes had some dicussions. The more Johan Remkes said, the more he wasn't taken serious by the rest of the table anymore. Femke was great! Also Wouter did it right again. Jan-Peter was as vague as always. I am happy the PvdA is rising again. All those lousy people who went on a LPF adventure, now return again knowing how stupid it was.... Dumb @asses!
I am for the PvdA, which is the only party who is for everybody. Go Wouter! :)
Matrix Jan 10, 2003, 05:07 AM I don't think this is a good location for a Dutch political debate. (Though, where is?)
But to keep it brief: The Purple :D cabinet got a storm of critics. As a result we got a right-winged government. That's necessary! Unfortunately we have new elections so fast after the last one, but now people massively vote on left (PvdA/SP) again. With the current economical crisis that will only bring us more "in de put". By the way, don't believe Maurice, that dog!
On topic: you figure it out! As I said I'll always play my turn when I receive it, but whether you want to continue or not; I don't really care...
Matrix May 25, 2003, 06:37 AM I used the bug: loading a game from the menu in a game instead of frmo the main menu to obtain this map. ;)
