As this forum is a "virtual classroom for the teaching of world history", I would love the many Canucks who browse these forums to educate me about the history of a country I know NOTHING about... Canada...
Who was the best PM in your opinion. I would appreciate the relevant dates if you have them and your reasoning for your choice, what party that PM was in, etc.

I do not like the man but I have to admit that Pierre Trudeau was a great politician. Here's a link: http://cbc.ca/news/indepth/trudeau/
edit: Another one. The official this time: http://www.clevernet.on.ca/pierre_trudeau/

I mean no disrespect, but rather awe, when I quote the first link article:
He had recently lost his son, Michel, who was killed in November 1998 at the age of 23 when an avalanche carried him into a glacial lake in British Columbia
That seems like an UberCanadian story. An avalanche, a glacial lake...
From what I read in the article I imagine further replies will only back this one.
How long has Canada been "independant"?

I don't know the details but his son has indeed die in a avalanche.
Canada become a dominion in 1867. In 1982 the constitution is changed to include a new Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
