View Full Version : The Earth files - dinna work right

Having exhausted most other varieties on Civ 3, I decided to try playing on the earth. What I really wanted was geographical accuracy, i.e. if I play the Chinese I start in China. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to work right at all. All the civs consistently appear in the same place, but they're all in the wrong places.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Better yet, has anyone managed to fix it somehow?

Finally, have any mac users tried to download the user-made Earth maps posted on some of the other forums and successfully used them? I suspect they're for more up-to-date PC versions of Civ 3 that don't exist for the Mac, because I can't open 'em no matter what I do. (I have found one or two non-earth user made maps I could download)

Thanks.

Peddleking,

Near's I can tell, civ Placement is a problem that hasn't been fixed up to the current Mac patch. IIRC, it has been fixed on the PC side.

On the subject of maps, I have several Earth Based maps that I have pulled from this forum, all of them work. I've even done one that allows for hillside/terraced irigation. Granted, I had to use a hacked editor either in Virtual PC (Waaaaaaaay too slow!) or on my daughter's Windows 98 machine.

If you'd like, I can upload a couple of my modified maps.

I'm not sure, but I think Civ placement is a sure thing in 1.29, but not 1.21. So, unfortunately, our upcoming editor still won't be able to nail down start positions.

Another thing for anybody:
Who can we find to turn the future editor into a "saved games" editor? That would be awfully handy for making specific scenarios and simulations.
