Okay, I promissed this poll on friday, and the help of another poll helped me frame the wording.

It is my theory that Your opinion of the best civ game will color you perception of ciV.

With almost all of the folks disliking ciV belonging to the ciV BTS is the best of the series category. Time will tell. :)

If you don't think Civ IV BTS was the best Civ game, then you're insane... so I can see insane people thinking Civ V is just fine.

I'm joking, but only just.

1) I almost voted the first option...only because yeah, dear lord are there a lot of choices!

2) Civ IV BTS is definitely the best atm, but that doesn't mean I hate V, nor does it mean it doesn't have potential to outdo IV. 2nd to last option for me, but in time, I think it may change.

Hmnn. There doesn't seem to be an option for " BTS and am neutral towards V"

Soooo, you are asking for 13 options? :)

lol, Naw. Was being sarcastic bro. BTS rocked, and I don't actually hate V. I'm kind of in between like and hate, so neutral seemed appropriate.

"cIv was the best in the series and I like cIv" - the second sentence is redundant, you apparently meant to write ciV, bot cIv. This reduces the viability of the poll.

I really wish people would stop to intentionally make it harder to read their statements, and invite misunderstandings, just to use some "cool" abbreviations. Sorry for the criticism, but I'm a huge fan of "make your message clear", and this mess of cIV, cIv, ciV, etc. actually obfuscates it. using Civ4, Civ1, Civ5 etc. instead is perfectly clear.

Couldn't agree more! Civ1-5 is just as easy to write but A LOT easier to read.

Why the hell C3 is combined with Civ Rev. C3 was the best, not Civ Rev :)
And I like Cive V too!

Based on the other poll, Civ1, Civ3 and CivRev had a small percentage of 'best' votes and could all be combined into a single category, as I really am trying to see if the 'dislikes' are mostly limited to the civ4 folks. So rather than splitting up 3 and Rev, I really meant to combine 1,3 and Rev.

Agreed, I hate these stupid abbrevations that serve no purpose other than to make it more confusing. I voted for the last option I believe, like Civilizations IV Beyond the Sword, don't like Civilizations V.

Yes, because the true shortcomings of the game are better understood in light of its pedigree. New players to the series might not fully grasp the gameplay mechanics issues with CiV if they haven't played other games in the series (well, at least Civ 4)

Point taken on the typo, although, it doesn't seem to invalidate the poll's intent (all the dislikes think Civilization 4 Beyond The Sword the best game). All those who do not adhere to the declared 'best' actually like Civilization IIIII.

Another interesting poll could be...

I believe there is only one right way to document something and I like/dislike playing Civilization Five
I appreciate the fluid nature of communication and I like/dislike playing ciV.

If I run enough of these polls, maybe the SJ's will get the hint that they don't quite have the monopoly on the definition of good/right that they think they should/do have.

Just my opinion of course. :)

Funny statement since most of the folks with differing opininions of the game's total pedigree (i.e. beyond Beyon the Sword) actually like the new incantation, including a significant portion who have played Civ 4.

Which means that you will have to start another pole. My first thought was you went from 1 to 4. Now I think that you went 5, 2, 3/rev, and 4bts. While you may still get the same results, people may understand what you are asking better.

Reading the forums now, everyone knows that the "majority" of people think that 4bts is the best game and 5 has not risen to that status, yet.

Lumping 1,3, and Rev together may offend some, but is not wrong.

I did go 1-4. The poll is not about the Best, someone else already ran that poll. It is really about about how your 'definition' of the best impacts your impression of V. The way the poll is shaking out, it doesn't matter how I group them as long as BTS has its own group.

Anioch's response is an accurate summary of that big orange line I believe, and also the burgeoning, civ4 is SO superior to cIV thread. To which I must reply, I may be crazy, but at least I'm not alone. :)

I'm joking, but only just.

As someone who has played 100's of games in civ IV BTS, I can 100% assure you that that game was never finished. If any other civ game in the series managed to become a complete game, then it was better.

Maybe insanity is affecting your judgment of sanity:rolleyes:?

FWIW, civ V is *not* fine, it needs a lot of work.

What should I vote if I liked Fall from Heaven the best?

What should I vote if I liked Fall from Heaven the best?

Mods would vote for the base platform that was modded. Raises another interesting question. I am curious where mod players would fall out on the pro/con civ 5 debate.

My initial impression that Mod players tilt away from the one version of the truth side.
But eventuallly mods, (e.g. Fall from Heaven) can be accepted as the one truth.

so I am not sure. :)

What exactly is this post adding to the forum? We have IDK 12 polls about how people feel about Civ 5 here, and another dozen on the other forum.

The abbreviations confused me, so I voted the wrong way. Meant to vote Civ4 was the best in the series and I like Civ5, so add one vote there and take away one vote from cIv was the best in the series.

honestly?

I thought I had already overstated my intention. This poll isn't about what anyone thinks of ciV.

In truth, it is a follow on to the 'why do folks hate ciV' thread.
That thread got as far as 'we hate it because they lied to us', before it devolved.

I felt the next question in that succession is, 'Why do you think they lied to us?' I think this poll is pretty definitively illustrating that if you do not feel BTS is the only possible best game in the series, you like ciV, it is only if you believe there is only one correct answer to best game in series, are you then inclined to feel lied to.

I reliaze tuning polls to narrow a search for an answer is not standard practice on forums, but we've already established that I am insane, so, I guess its to be expected,
If you can predict the behavior of an insane person, that is :crazyeye:

We got our first civ 2 dislike 5 vote. I am curious, if you wouldn't mind responding...

I don't think I am too far out on a limb guessing you disliked civ 3. :)
I am guessing you disliked civ 4 when it came out too.
