MMmmm, I heard that there was a pre alpha release for the sequel to Windows XP. Has anybody tried it? :)
Maybe it's even more stable than the finale release of XP :p
I'll try to grab it anyway.

I heard that the alpha is VERY unstable.
If anyone wants more info, check this out: http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/longhorn_alpha.asp

I've seen some screen prints of it. It looks like they are going with a multiple desktop deal a'la Linux.

I don't understand this "Plex" stuff. It looks indentical to the current XP graphics. In fact, I'm on XP now, comparing them, and they are identical. So whats up with that?

I read somewhere that MS is trying to come up with a revolutionary way of storing information so that when one of the programs you are running goes to retrieve the info it takes much less time to do so. MS is doing it because of how big hard drives are getting. I wish they would turn up the speed on the defragmenting. :)

Agreed, althouhg I'd be happy just if they could get defrag. to work properly, and not restart every five seconds.

I've never experienced that problem with any version of windows.

Are you trying to defrag whilst connected to a network? IIRC the defrag program can get upset by even the minimal activity involved in maintaining an active ethernet connection, so perhaps that could be the problem...

Maybe one of the more techy folks would care to confirm/debunk this?

Essientially it is HOW files are stored. Have you heard of the terms FAT, FAT32, NTFS? These are all previous versions of how data is stored.

FAT (File Allocation Table) = DOS through Windows 95a
FAT32 (File Allocation Table 32 bit) = Windows 95b through Windows ME
NTFS (NT File System) = Windows NT through Windows XP

Thats because you need to disable your anti-virus, and turn off your screen saver.
