This is a conversion from the Red Alert 2 game. The unit only has an attack animation, and a default animation which is used for run, death, and fortify. I am considering adding a death animation, but it would basically be an explosion that covers the whole unit, then dissappears (I am not able to make it actually fall apart or anything). I plan on making the Soviet Turret, Tesla Coil, and some other units as well.
If you have any idea for the stats on this, please post. Having the attack animation loop doesnt look good, so perhaps make it bombard only, and tag as cruise missile ??
NOTE: Make sure you tag this unit as "Ranged Attack Animation". If you dont, it will get so close to the defending unit that the rocket will be up their nose, and then fire. :D

zulu9812 Dec 18, 2002, 04:57 AM How about as a transport for cruise missiles?
About the sounds - what format are the sounds in? wav?mp3? something else? I can convert pretty much any sound file into any other sound file type, so if I can help let me know.

Or nukes ... ?!
Schizo_Angel Dec 18, 2002, 07:54 AM Yeh, this would be cool as a transport for tactical nukes, that you could transport into enemy territory. Handy if you havent got a great navy
GIDustin Dec 18, 2002, 08:36 AM Red Alert has all of its files within a MIX file, and there are several mix files in each mix file, and several more in those, so finding the sound is near impossible.
I fear I may have to put a mic to my speakers to get the sound.
Your ideas are good. I will have to try a few.

GIDustin Dec 18, 2002, 09:21 AM That is an article for Tiberian Sun. I will try that program on Red Alert 2, but I dont have a sounds.mix file.
Sounds Pretty self explanatory. All of the unit sounds from TS.
I will look on my CD and a few other places before giving up.

zulu9812 Dec 18, 2002, 10:37 AM I forget the file structure for RA2, but onr of the .mix files must have the sounds. If I remember correctly, the files you're looking for are 'language.mix' and 'audio.mix' - you should be able to extract them with the XCC Sound editor. I reccomend you check out the XCC homepage - http://xccu.sourceforge.net - for more info.
GIDustin Dec 18, 2002, 10:42 AM I will do that. Thanks for all your help. BTW your signature is outdated.
Get my units_32.pcx with 600+ icons here, now updated to v1.2 & PTW-compatible!

zulu9812 Dec 18, 2002, 10:44 AM Sheesh...give us 5 minutes...lol
GIDustin Dec 18, 2002, 02:56 PM That tool works wonderously. Only problem is that I found all the VOX files (voices of commanders, and voices of units), but not the actual tank shooting sounds, or moving sounds.
I cannot think of anywhere else to look.

zulu9812 Dec 18, 2002, 04:23 PM Did you try files with the extensions '.BAG' and '.IDX'?
GIDustin Dec 18, 2002, 04:27 PM didnt think I could.
GIDustin Dec 18, 2002, 04:29 PM I found an audio.bag, and audio.idx, but I dont know what to do with them.

GIDustin Dec 18, 2002, 04:37 PM Nevermind I found it, and I am working on the sounds now
zulu9812 Dec 18, 2002, 04:43 PM You should be able to open them with the XCC Sound Editor. Where to go from there, I'm not sure.
GIDustin Dec 18, 2002, 05:02 PM Yeah you open the sound editor, and then there are alot of lines that are blank. I thought that meant that they didnt exist, but it was that they werent labeled. So the soudns I skipped over earlier are the ones i needed. Once you find the right sound, click extract, and you got a wav. Now I gotta check to make sure they work in civ 3 (correct bitrate, MHz, etc)
Thanks for the help Zulu

Schizo_Angel Dec 18, 2002, 05:10 PM Just an idea, but if you speeded up the attack animation, would that make the dissappearance of the nuclear missle less obvious?
GIDustin Dec 18, 2002, 05:52 PM Just updated the link in the first post. The unit now has sounds for run, attack, and death (though no animation for death yet, and I may not get around to it).
I am not sure what you mean Schizo_angel. If I speed if up, it will be launching rockets like there is no tomorrow. (may be cool, but not realistic).
Enjoy

GIDustin Dec 18, 2002, 05:54 PM Also: While I was testing the sounds (some I had to decrease volume of so they wouldnt blow my speakers) i took a screenshot in game. It is actually a worse pic than the one on the first post, but what the hey.

Civanator Dec 18, 2002, 08:02 PM do you have Starcraft: Brood War? If so alot of the Terran(Human) units are sweet.
GIDustin Dec 18, 2002, 08:41 PM I do have it. :D There are 10-11 units I want to convert from RA2, then I am up for suggestions.
GIDustin
zulu9812 Dec 19, 2002, 05:01 AM Suggestions for RA2 converts:
- Tesla Tank
- Iraqi Desolator
- Cuban Terrorist
- Libyan Demolition Truck
- Apocalypse Assault Tank
- Kirov Airship
- Soviet Conscript
And if you've got Yuri's Revenge:
- Robot Tank
- Lasher Tank
- Gatling Tank
- Brute
There we go: that should take of your 10-11 units! :p
GIDustin Dec 19, 2002, 08:31 AM I want to get the tesla coil (for some odd reason) and the soviet turret (image below) Then I will begin working on your ideas. I do have yuris revenge BTW.

thestonesfan Dec 19, 2002, 09:50 AM "Look out for the bump!!"
- Libyan Demo truck
Schizo_Angel Dec 19, 2002, 12:33 PM Lol dont worry
The pic looks quite good, though whats with the red spots on the front? And I spose the red bits are civ colours, or going to be?
GIDustin Dec 19, 2002, 01:39 PM The red spots are not supposed to be there, I must have missed some frames, and yes it is civ specific.
I can make a version without them. May take a couple more hours to change all the pixels over, but i can do it.
GIDustin
Yoda Power Dec 19, 2002, 01:42 PM Its a nice unit, to bad i dont need another modern atellery.

Personally, I'd much rather you made it with civ-specific colours.
GIDustin Dec 19, 2002, 03:32 PM The rocket is civ specific. The random pixels on the hood are also civ specific, but they arent supposed to be there. I can take the spots off the truck if you want, and the rocket would remain civ specific.
GIDustin
GIDustin Dec 19, 2002, 04:46 PM For those of you who didnt like the civ specific spots on the truck (and in the rockets smoke), I have updated the zip on the first post. If you wish to only download the 2 updated flics, you can get them here (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads3/V3Update.zip)

GIDustin Jan 04, 2003, 07:28 PM Here is a preview of the requested soviet conscript. I have the default and attack done, the death will be tricky though.
GIDustin
zulu9812 Jan 04, 2003, 07:39 PM Any chance of making it a bit bigger?
GIDustin Jan 04, 2003, 08:04 PM not sure
I will play around with it
GIDustin
GIDustin Jan 04, 2003, 08:23 PM Well, I can make it 2 x the size, and then it looks gigantic. Since I am just working with screenshots, I cannot resize without messing up the pallettes. Now I have no clue what to do. My last 2 units miraculously were the right size . . .
GIDustin
GIDustin Jan 04, 2003, 08:43 PM It seems that even at different resolutions, the infantry units are not the right size, and I cannot resize them properly. I can still convert tanks as they are the normal size, but infantry in RA2 are actually smaller than the tanks (unlike civ3) so I dont think I can convert any RA2 infantry. :(
GIDustin
zulu9812 Jan 05, 2003, 03:52 AM Okay, well...onto the tanks! :D
Schizo_Angel Jan 05, 2003, 11:30 AM Cool.
When I get round to downloading things again, I'll use this as a tactical missle carrier
GIDustin Jan 06, 2003, 03:31 PM Tanks it is. Now, which one . . .
I was looking at doing the Apocalypse tank, but there appears to be a very similar tank already done. The Tesla tank would be a little difficult due to the electricity, so I will save that for last. I think I may due to Yuri Gatling Tank, unless there are other suggestions.

GIDustin Jan 20, 2003, 08:05 PM Question:
How is this unit being used? What stats? I wanted it to be able to attack/bombard a unit, and be destroyed after attacking, but if I give it an attack, it keeps shooting missile until the battle is over, and then if it wins it doesnt dissappear. If I give it 0attack and 0 defense, but give it bombard, it works almost how it should. The attack is played once, and the unit destroyed regardless of outcome, but the V3 drives onto the enemy, then shoots the rocket into the big blue abyss. Tagging it "Ranged Attack" didnt help in either scenerio.
So, any ideas? The missile transport is a good idea, but I would rather have it as a highly mobile cruise missle.
