View Full Version : TETurkhans mod SG
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 19, 2002, 06:05 PM Strating a game using the great(!) TETurkhan mod.
Everything debateable.
I recommend: level = Regent (as the mod takes getting used to)
6 or so players (as the gaem will take long)
player order:
me
annares
ToddMarshal
meli
LKendter
Aggie
maybe 1 more in case of a dropout - the game will get extremely slow very soon.
anarres Dec 19, 2002, 06:10 PM Nice one killer :D
LKendter Dec 19, 2002, 06:29 PM I am *NOT* signing up 6 days before Xmas.
However, it this the original from the CD - or does it include the huge patch that was available?
anarres Dec 19, 2002, 06:34 PM Good point. I can't commit to lots of time over christmas.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 19, 2002, 06:43 PM Lee: I expect to start AFTER Christmas.it will include the patch
falsfire Dec 19, 2002, 10:34 PM please enlighten a mod newbie, what exactly *is* the TeTurkhan mod? And where do I go to get the 'patched' mod? Firaxis' website?
ToddMarshall Dec 19, 2002, 11:45 PM @falsefire. Check the mod games that came with your ptw CD. This is a HUGE mod affecting who can make ceartian units, the units themselves, terrain, and, well, dang near everything. It's kinda like epic 20 on serious, serious steroids :). I don't know where the mod patch is though :(. I'd LOVE to play this one if I wouldn't have to play till after new years and if we play as one of the modded civs.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 20, 2002, 05:56 AM the patch is on the download collection @ CFC: use Quick link at top right of each page or click here:
http://www.civfanatics.net/files/civ3/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=535
warning: huge!
this requires PTW, there's a link for those who deleted the mod somehow (even larger).
We will start after Christmas, probably by Jan 6.
Melifluous Dec 20, 2002, 07:27 AM Sign me up Killer,
Just tried this MOD last night after talking to you and it rocks...
Although maybe the English weren't the best choice :)
Melifluous.
PS. Ppl just call me Mel...
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 20, 2002, 07:42 AM mel: you're in!

Melifluous Dec 20, 2002, 07:54 AM No not really, :D
But it was OK, ran a bit slow on my mighty 450 mhz machine of death!
Dl'ing the patch at work and gonna burn it onna CD to take home.
Dread to think what my 56k slodem would make of a 59meg patch :crazyeye:
Melifluous
PS. Anyway keep on topic , bad boy anarres
Aggie Dec 20, 2002, 09:15 AM I never played a SG and also never played this mod. I played an won a lot of regent/monarch games in both vanilla CIV3 and PTW. Does this qualify?
PS. I'm not a warmonger, but can be if needed;)
falsfire Dec 20, 2002, 10:42 AM I'm gonna try playing to 1000BC or 10BC in single-player with this mod before committing to it.
Things I noticed from looking in the editor at the .bix file:
There are fish resources that provide TWENTY-FIVE bonus food?!? That's insane...
I also notice it includes a map of earth, with most civs cities already placed. Would we be playing it with or without the earth map, and with or without cities already placed?
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 21, 2002, 01:56 AM Aggie: welcome!
falsfire: no, I'd go for a normal, empty map start, because otherwise it is already dictated who dies
and the extreme fishes are rare, 5 to 9 is normal.
Aggie Dec 21, 2002, 02:23 AM OK! I'm going to start practising with this mod right now. Chieftain ;)
ToddMarshall Dec 23, 2002, 03:32 PM Well, as I said earlier, if we play as one of the unusual civs, sign me up.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 24, 2002, 07:50 AM Todd: you're in
LKendter Dec 24, 2002, 08:48 AM Question:
Who is on official in list?
I *MAY* sign up - depending on the LK wm development status. I want that ready to go, or at least me working on before I sign up.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 26, 2002, 05:04 AM Lee: see above. I expect you to be in as LKMap9H is up ;) :D
LKendter Dec 26, 2002, 09:41 AM There are multiple scenarios of this mod.
Which one are we playing?
NOTE: Still pre-sign up questions.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 28, 2002, 07:10 AM I was thinking of playing an 'odd' civ, like Israel or Tibet, wiht a 2 settler start. The new version, including the huge downlaodable patch.
So: no cities, but the given starting pos.
This game will be slow, but rewarding, especially if we do not take one of the favored civs like China.
LKendter Dec 28, 2002, 07:22 AM OK, no starting cities.
Is this game just world map, or is the smaller varations?
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 28, 2002, 07:23 AM ah, nope, this is the extra huge thingy.
LKendter Dec 28, 2002, 07:44 AM I am kick myself for it, but sign me up.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 28, 2002, 07:58 AM Welcome!
Nice to have you on the team - we will need players with experience on huge maps.
I found civs with 7 cities rather give away 5 small towns for peace than 1 tech

I like to be Tibet! Israel is also OK :)
anarres Dec 28, 2002, 10:52 AM Well, I've spent the last week playing the mod non-stop. :)
There is one thing that maybe obvious to all, but here it is anyway:
With 32 civs, trade is off the scale in importance. The first to writing has a huge advantage. The cost of techs is huge in the ancient times compared to empire size, so the AI researches very slowly as well. Also, the AI rarely goes for writing first.
If we start as a commercial civ (with alphabet) on the eurasian continent, the first 40 turns go to writing, and on turn 41 we have the advantage. I have played out 3 games on Deity as commercial civs and every time I am first to writing. In every game my gold pile is massive by now. Literature is only another 40 turns away, and the GL follows each time. Too easy by far IMO.
Starting in one of the more unusual positions may be worth considering (although I am not sure of the pros and cons of all).
What civ's do people think will be interesting? As you may have guessed, I would prefer not to start with alphabet or as a civ in an amazing start position. :)
LKendter Dec 28, 2002, 11:49 AM I just took a look at the mod - I can play as the Songhai
Nah, I think my Songhai makes for sense - who is Turunku? I never saw that name during my research.
I see that I am NOT the only person stealing graphics from other civs. The leader of Poland looks like Lincoln to me!
Europe will be insanse with 9 civs - I don't want to start there.
Tibet - NO! I don't want to start surrounded by mountains.
Suggest starts:
Abyssinia - we have some expansion room.
Israel is a bit crammed, and a very natual target - this would be cruel but hopefully it can be done.
Cambodia - We get some room to work with, and if we get mapmaking a jump to the islands quickly and some of the yummy barb camps.
Any of the American civs - we will be way behind in tech, but what a large empire and plenty of yummy barb camps.
LKendter Dec 28, 2002, 07:17 PM  Playing around with the mod
settlers cost *300* shields
anarres Dec 28, 2002, 08:05 PM The mod is amazing. The settlers also cost 3 population.
There is a saving grace - pop rushing is worth 120shields/citizen. I normally rush it for 2 citizens when at size 6. You go back to size 1, but there are some very food-rich tiles around.
I am on my 5th game and 5th civilization, only playing out the first 50 to 100 turns. So far the Aztecs are most fun, but when I get discovered by eurasia I'm in for it :D
LKendter Dec 28, 2002, 09:08 PM How about this for the civ - RANDOM!
The exceptions: No Songhai - playing them shortly.
Either way killer - start this baby!

Am I looking at the same mod ? When I look in the editor, I see that a settler costs 2 population.
And another thing I noticed: several civs can build leaders for free :crazyeye: . And the AI apparantly doesn't know how to use this facility, at least not on chieftain.....
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 29, 2002, 05:51 AM Aggie: did you DL the giant patch? 58MB IIRC.....
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 29, 2002, 06:32 AM falsfire will probably not take part (correct me if I'm wrong).
get this patch
http://www.civfanatics.net/files/civ3/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=535
or
should we wait for version 2.0 that was promised for early January?

Aggie: did you DL the giant patch? 58MB IIRC.....
I did....I think. I'm going to try again. Maybe I messed up :(
The mod installed on my D:-drive instead on G:, where I have CIV3/PTW. I had to move manually
anarres Dec 29, 2002, 07:31 AM Aggie, make sure to go to the main thread and download the BIX update as well (small DL). This must be copied in to the scenarios directory after the 1.66 update (the 58Mb file ERIKK linked).
BIX Update (bottom of first post) (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29279)
You also need to delete the old BIX files (5 of them) from the scenarios directory.
I have noticed several discrepancies with the civlopedia. Exp civs don't get to build more scouts. Greece starts with MapMaking (and I think England does as well). Someone also starts with writing (far too much an advantage).
There are many many more changes as well, I am learing them as I go along.
I am tempted to wait for version 2 as it promises to be much more than the current one. I also think we should choose our civ as there is such a difference between them. As I mentioned before, a commerical civ in eurasia that starts with alphabet is too much of an advantage IMO. Please not one of them.
I am currently playing Aztecs - now that's a challenge (maybe too much of a challenge?).
Aggie Dec 29, 2002, 07:38 AM After reading Arranes' directions I edited this post.
I followed the directions and changed the BIX files. The editor settings seems to fit now (3 shields for a settler), but when starting the scenario my game exits. I already read on the installation page that it has to do with the fact that my game is installed on a non-standard drive on my PC... I try to fix it today, but if that doesn't work, I give up.
Aggie Dec 29, 2002, 09:48 AM I give up
If you're starting the game with the current version, please remove me from the list.
I want to give version 2 a try, but the installation program doesn't like my computer-setup.....
EDIT: Arranes convinced me to not give up just yet...
LKendter Dec 29, 2002, 10:39 AM Well, I *HAVE* succesffully started a scenario.
I should have no problem playing -
I suggest Killer start this before players lose interest!
should we wait for version 2.0 that was promised for early January?
NO - we don't know what the final date will really be.
anarres Dec 29, 2002, 02:22 PM Aggie, I have not got it installed to default location, and I did the following (after having similar problems):
- Download the zip program that TETurkhan used. There is a link to it in the first post of the thread I linked earler.
- Use that program to unzip the file to the correct installation.
- Update the BIX files
I know it shouldn't matter using winzip (or anything else), but winzip didn't do it properly, and neither did copying the file from where the download put them.
It's worth one last go I reckon...
Aggie Dec 30, 2002, 02:37 AM @Anarres: Thanks for your tips.
I think I followed them already, but I'll give it another go. The reason why I threw the towel in the ring was that I was afraid to mess things up in the SG when the mod isn't installed properly on my PC.
But I'm last one on the player order, therefore I think that I've got the time to fix it.
Aggie Dec 30, 2002, 02:55 AM Anyway, my pick for the mod would be:
- Regent level
- We pick our civilization
- Not a civ in crowded europe
- A challenging civ, no real further preference there.
Aggie Dec 31, 2002, 09:51 AM Finaly!!! I got it to work!!!
I had to perform some horrible tricks though, including un-installing CIV3 from my computer :crazyeye:
I'm still not happy with the solution, but at least I can play.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 31, 2002, 09:59 AM Aggie: great!
I mailed TEThurkan - no reply yet
Melifluous Dec 31, 2002, 10:03 AM So could it be that this game will start soon?
Melifluous
LKendter Dec 31, 2002, 10:07 AM :scan:
Looking for a sign of a start
:scan:
Lt. 'Killer' M. Dec 31, 2002, 10:37 AM I will give it 2 more days (first workday in the new year) in case Ray doesn't check his mial from home. If he then doesn't answer 8or tells me version 2.0 is more than a few days away) I'll start the game.
reason: I have encountered a crash (fatal) with diplo replies - and that was one of the things he promised to fix in 2.0.
ToddMarshall Dec 31, 2002, 11:05 AM I'm still here/interested, just haven't had comp access over the last few days. Prefer Israel or Cambodia
Edit: Somewhere near the end of the rotation would be prefered if it's ok.

OUCH!
I agree - let's wait a few more days.
This is the same reason I am doing massive testing of the LK map before starting. I don't want to waste hours on a game to have it crash.

Any news on this Killer?
anarres Jan 04, 2003, 05:45 PM teturkhan has announced that version 2 will be here in a week:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=687447#post687447
anarres Jan 05, 2003, 12:14 AM I have created a TET strategy thread:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=40836
Please use it so we can all improve as we play this game. :)

Thanks :goodjob:
But first finish the GOTM, today...
Lt. 'Killer' M. Jan 05, 2003, 03:36 AM annarres: you beat me to it (and no wonder with me imited to my Dads 1.1 k modem/connection atm  )
I'd say we wait. What do you say?
LKendter Jan 05, 2003, 10:43 AM One word:
WAIT
Lt. 'Killer' M. Jan 06, 2003, 11:13 AM OK, planning on a test game once it is out (a quick SP game will take me one day), then we go!
LKendter Jan 06, 2003, 12:45 PM OK,
This baby should start the middle January :)
===============
Speaking of test - any news on the LK world map test?
I would like to get that one going soon also.
Aggie Jan 12, 2003, 01:06 PM I'm not going to join this SG... My mother is very sick (she will recover...) and I have other things on my mind right now. :(
Lt. 'Killer' M. Jan 12, 2003, 02:27 PM Aggie: our best wishes!
It will be a while until this gets underway, so I'll PM you once we start. Maybe you will find time then.
LKendter Jan 15, 2003, 09:25 AM Cheap plug time:
If any of the huge map playing people hear feel comfortable with emporer, check out:

anarres Feb 01, 2003, 07:19 PM Just a quick note to say that TETurkhan looks like he may be about to release version 2:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=745756#post745756
Do we need a little time for the forst person to get to know the new rules for version 2? From what I understand there are several fundamental changes, including not being able to buy and sell contacts until very late in the game.
LKendter Feb 01, 2003, 08:06 PM Well I will need time to be able to download it.
If the patch is as large as 1.66, I can only download it at home.
No way I will download that patch at 56K
Lt. 'Killer' M. Feb 03, 2003, 01:53 AM ah, i started thinking 2.0 wouldn't come :(
Lee: take your time, I will put you so far back in the roster that you needn't hurry....
anarres Feb 03, 2003, 05:34 AM There is activity in the TET thread, but no update yet
LKendter Feb 14, 2003, 08:34 AM Any news on an update?
I don't want to tie my game schedule up if nothing is going to happen.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Feb 14, 2003, 08:44 AM it doesn't seem there will be a new version soon :(
anarres Feb 14, 2003, 09:01 AM I think it is best to get on with your other thinkgs LK, we can organise a suitable time for all of us when the update is released.
Melifluous Feb 14, 2003, 09:12 AM Yeah like what he said...
Just posting here really to show my continued support for this SG when it finally gets started...
I've just played a game as Turkistan...
Nice!
Loads of room to start with to expand, on the same landmass as the masses in Europe and already roaded up because of the Silk Road...
Very Nice...
Melifluous
LKendter Feb 14, 2003, 09:14 AM Consider me OUT of this game.
When the release comes out - post it, and I will decide then if I can play.
I think you want a new thread when 2.0 appears - this has been sitting so long that people will forget about this game.
Lt. 'Killer' M. Feb 14, 2003, 09:15 AM Lee: I fully understand! I will PM you then.
ToddMarshall Feb 21, 2003, 12:49 AM Haven't posted here in ages because I've been seriously ill. Looks like this is one SG where I didn't leave the roster hanging while I was in the hospital. If this ever happens, I'm still interested schedule at the start time permitting.
