My question is: Is there a way to play a classic, turn based game on line (CIVPTW), save it and then go back in and change it to “play by email” so that the game can be continued? I play with my friends on line but sometimes we can’t all devote hours on line because we are spread around the world.

I think no, at least I haven't heard of it yet. Best to set it as PBEM and play it as such fr the start. ;)

I think you can, I mean I played a mp-game a few days ago. It crashed one time and then the host noted that he was able to change the play mode before loading. In that case from Sim. moves --> PBEM. We are now trying to continue that game by e-mail but I haven't seen it yet. Will post here if we succeed.
