Damn, I can't look. Can you be more specific about what is in the log. Maybe I can use something smart you got there?

We agreed to have a log in the DDPP game. In my own log I have things like:
4000BC. Settled near river.
3500BC. Finished 5th scout, start second warrior. Hut gave "warrior code".
3000BC. Bla bla.. etc etc...

I guess since I was talking about something like this, you'd better include me in.

Col, I added you to the list. :)

ERIKK, I made my log more in spoken language instead of code language, trying to make it as much pleasing to read. But it's still a game report and not as if I'm a true leader of a true Civilization.

I'd like to play this game, it sounds interesting. :)

I'll play as Japan if possible, if not, Rome would be ok.

Hey Matrix,

This is just what I was planning on doing for my latest PBEM, PBEM4...

So...

Can I join in?

I would love to be the Americans (if not Carthage)

Matrix

Plexus & Melifluous, I've added you as well. ;)

You know what I was thinking? Perhaps I should make a special user for my site, where the web pages of this PBEM will be located, and you can all access that with FTP and change it, without my interference. How about it? :)

Are you (Col, Plexus, Melifluous) all accustomed with FTP and making a web site?

Melifluous
Dec 22, 2002, 05:25 AM
Yep,
Sure am...

See my site My Civ3 Site (bit new) (http://www.marsden-broad.co.uk)

Good enough?

Ok, great! :)

PHP is out of my league yet. ;) I only use premade scripts, but can't program in it myself. :o

And what about you, Plexus?

By the way, I'll email your future login in a few minutes. ;)

If someone can give me the basic template maybe I can still do it. Any offers?

Hey anarres,

Just get yourself a decent editor...
Then copy someone elses site, and change it enough to avoid copyright issues :)

Anyway I use Acehtml, it's freeware and I like it ;)

You know you can use Word to create perfectly servicable web pages. In fact its probably the easiest way of creating tables.

Just create your page in Word then Save as HTML. Upload it.
Et voila. Bobs your uncle.

Word is OK if you dont mind your code being about 4 times longer than it need be that is... ;)

But Yeah word is easy...

Looking forward to this :goodjob:

If you think Word is bad, I use FrontPage but the code it produces is not exactly optimised.

Yea, I know HTML, some C and very little PHP... here's my old site: http://liquid2k.com/plexus/ , My email is Enemysoldier88@yahoo.com . I have frontpage also, I usually have to play with the code to get it down to a respectable file size. :(

OK, I'm in. :D

I think I should be able to use Dreamweaver well enough for the purposes, I've just got a thing about not producing shabby looking work, so maybe I'll learn some more :)

I think I might go for Random this time (thanx col :goodjob: ), I don't really have a favourite civ anyways...

To all, I'll make a template which you can easily edit. And if there's a problem, there are enough people on this forum you can ask for help. ;)

In what sequence do we play?

Col, Melifluous and anarres are GMT, I'm GMT+1 and Plexus is GMT+a lot (Japan), right?

So I think it would be best if Plexus starts, than me, and then the three Britons. :) At what time of the day are you mostly available? I mostly around 17:00 GMT.

My site supports PHP and MySQL, but I already use a MySQL database. Is it possible to use/make a second?

You may try anything you like, but if you delete the database at present...I'll kill you.

Edit: I just realized you can't do anything with MySQL without the appropriate login/password. And I won't give that to you. :p

It uses the adjective part like: "A Japanese Samurai". So, I would suggest that you change your adjective to Anarchist.

I've been thinking... How spoiling is it that we can see each other's map? Cos if we decide it's not that bad the making of the web site will be much easier. We can have an overall map and an overall story on the front page from the start. And if you secretly settle on a distant island, you may erase that from the map you send to me (for making that overall map). And secret armies that go somewhere will only be shown in the logs which we still won't read.

I think knowing the starting location of others won't be that bad. :) But if you disagree, then just forget about it.

Plexus
Dec 29, 2002, 02:36 PM
I dunno, we are playing against each other.

col
Dec 29, 2002, 02:46 PM
It would weaken the expansionist trait. Aeson has posted a good thread at Poly on the importance of knowing the map for forming your strategy.

I dont think its a good idea. I dont mind close up pix - its the big pic that gives too much away.

These PBEM games will be the real test of skill.

Yea, but it never matters much because when you know a part of the map, you always see it when another city is built there. The only thing the others see is what you've explored and they haven't, and what you strictly want to keep as a secret, you can erase...

But I see that all of you disagree, so never mind...

By the way, sabo10 wanted to join but hasn't responded yet. And without him, we're still with only five. Shall we play with us five, or wait for more players?

Dec 30, 2002, 09:53 AM
Matrix, for me knowing others start lcations is a big advantage. I understand that it would be the same for everyone, but it changes the game somewhat.

Once we have the world map each, then I would be more willing to post my local maps and minimap.

It would be interesting to play a game where all maps were public, and on second thought I want to abstain. I would be happy playing either way.

col
Dec 30, 2002, 10:53 AM
I cans see it both ways too. If evryone has the public map then I guess there's no advantage for anyone.

Do what you want to do, Matrix.

TheRealGameSage, welcome! I hope you are going to stay and not stay away as Sabo10 does. A few things: are you acquainted with making web pages and aware of the obligations with joining this PBEM? I.e. at least noting your demographics every turn?

Furthermore, what Civ do you like to play and what's your email address? :)

The game is on!

I've got a nice startup location. I'll update my section soon. From now on you may not read my log anymore! ;)

I've taken a screenshot of the map in the military advisor screen and zoomed out while centering the map on my capital. And I've noted the demographics.

The demographics are a must! You don't have to send me your demographics every turn, but do note them every turn. Then every five turns or so (or whatever you want), send them to me...
