The screen shots on the main page here...obviously from PTW, really get me thinking.

How in the blue hell do these guys have tanks and 26,000 gold in the 1300's??

I don't know...maybe I'm just not the Civ fanatic these guys are.

They're playing on the higher levels. Tech research rates are slowest on Chiftain and extremely fast on diety. Add in that AIs trade like mad w/ one another, then on levels beginning at regent, one can reach the end of the tech tree. Huge sums of gold may be the result of running communism in a large empire. The problem w/ communism is that although corruptioin is much less, you can't rush-build w/ gold, only citizens. Its kind of like having a full can of beer but no way to get the beer out! In my opinion. Of course, communism has its place.

The space race is over in deity games around 1500, so tanks two centuries earlier are par for the course. 26,000 gold is more rare, but doable if the right trading conditions exist.
