tom2050 Nov 11, 2010, 01:53 PM Did you modify the PCX art file? If you did, the PCX art files are indexed, which means they contain a 256 color palette. The magenta color in these is the transparent portion of the palette; and it probably got changed somehow so it's no longer transparent.
You can either check to see if it's a palette issue to correct it, or if you upload it here, someone can do a fix for you and send it back to you.
BadKharma Nov 11, 2010, 04:22 PM The pink color looks like it is incorrect, not pure 255, 0, 255. I copied and pasted the picture from your post into photoshop and the pink color you have for transparency is 141, 0, 140 so you definitely have a palette issue.
nick0515 Nov 11, 2010, 07:08 PM Yeah that pink looks too dark. I have this kind of problem regularly and it is always becuase I have messed up the palete somehow. There are some tutorials around regarding paletes depending on what program your using.

could you give me a link to some of those tutorials? id like to be able to fix it if i run into it again. :goodjob:
nick0515 Nov 11, 2010, 09:01 PM What program are you using? Sorry at work at present and have to go teach a class. Might be able to find some tutorials in a few hours time though. In the mean time you could have a look here. (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=175834)
Samez Nov 12, 2010, 04:43 AM I guess the violet color is not one of the last two colors in the palette which are the ones transparent (at least in gimp.) This should be easily corrected by shifting the violet color to one of the last two positions in the palette.
I am also nut sure if the violet is completely one color (there seem to be other violet shades close to the grass) and as only the last two colors are transparent there will remain violet pixels if my assumption is true.

I always use Kyriakos's excellent tutorial for modifying PCX's with the GIMP (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=215916) when I'm modifying PCX's. One note is that the tutorial uses GIMP 2.4, which was current at the time, and some of the menus have changed positions with GIMP 2.6. I thus always use GIMP 2.4.7 (the latest GIMP 2.4 version), which you can download free (and legally) from FileHippo (http://www.filehippo.com/download_the_gimp/4566/).
D551 Nov 12, 2010, 07:14 PM i use gimp so these tutorials should work good. ill let you guys know if i get this worked out. thanks a ton!
nick0515 Nov 12, 2010, 07:59 PM You may have already found this stuff out in the tuts but I'll give you a quick tut on how I deal with palettes in GIMP 2.6
First check the mode. When you’re working on something you need to change it to RGB otherwise it uses only a set number of colours and anything you cut and paste into the picture will have to modify itself to the set range of colours.
When you’re finished you want to change the mode to indexed to 256 colours.

Next you should go to the colour map and make sure the pink and green transparency colours are the last two colours in the palette and that they are the right shades respectively. The pink needs to be ff00ff and the green should be 00ff00 (those are zeros not 'o'). You can change them just by double clicking on them. They might not be in the right place at first though.

To put the pink and green in the last two positions you need to Rearrange the Colour map. Just click and drag to the last two positions.

Please note this assumes you are working with an image that already has the pick and green present. If you are making an image from scratch that doesn't have the green and pink you may need to index to 254 not 256 colours and then add two more colours and change them to the correct pink and green in the last two slots.
D551 Nov 12, 2010, 09:38 PM wow thats real helpful, some of the other tutorials were with different versions of gimp. But this one shows what to do with the same version that im using so it was a great help. i just edited the savannah terrain file and ran the game and no pink! thanks again all!

nick0515 Nov 13, 2010, 12:08 AM No worries. I'm still a bit of a noob at this kinda stuff anyway and i've had to ask for help tons of times so it's nice to be able to help someone else with this kinda stuff. Palettes are a pain in the arse and GIMP is not the best for dealing with them. Glad you got it sorted though.
Blue Monkey Nov 13, 2010, 06:06 PM If you still can't find the problem post a copy of the pcx file itself. Then others can take a look to help you find the solution.
