View Full Version : Getting the AI to build explorer units.

Anyone having luck getting the AI to build explorer units? I'm not. I want all civs to build explorer units so I tagged every civ with the expansion attribute. I checked "explore" for "build often" for each civ. All civs have a variety of explorer units to build but I haven't seen any! Any ideas why? I'm playing PTW but haven't yet installed the latest patch. Anybody seen an explorer unit in PTW?? :confused:

I think you have done what can be done to make the AI build explorer units, checking the "build often explore" flag is the only solutioni can come up with.

I don't know. Into a game, once the AI captured a explorer from me. But they didn't use it. They simply moved him to the next AI city. When I captured thise city, I get the explorer back. (Civ3 1.21, as far I remember)

So I also wished to know how to get the AI using explorers.

Why are you playing with such an old patch? Ask Infogrames. :D In Germany never relased a 1.29f for Civ3 (german) - 1.21f is the newest. Now I'm playing Ptw 1.14 mostly. But with PtW I din't notice this Explorer thing, so I had to wrote about my 1.21-experience.

I've seen the AI build Scouts in PTW. Maybe the AI isn't building any exploration units because most of the map is already exposed from map trading an such.

Not in my case. I've pushed map trading to the late Middle Ages and I've given each civ four settlers to start the game and they don't get any more until the unit becomes buildable with Feudalism. So, you have seen them in PTW? That's good, that means there's hope. I'll keep experimenting with it. :goodjob:

I once had my explorer a2.d2.m2 becorse i discovered that there was an attack animation, i checked the ofence flag in the editor and the ai would build them, but not to explore though that was in reguler civ3 not ptw. Maybe when the ai first have explorers they´l start explore?
