I always take them, it gives me more land to expand into.

I usually get to a point where if I don't take them the natives declare war on me if I refuse. Otherwise, depending on map geography, I try not to if I have good relations / defensive pact with the tribe. The theory being that having a bunch of armed braves on my side against the REF can come in pretty handy if the REF has to march past the hostile native settlements to get to my colonies.

My logic in not taking them is that it is just more people I will have to convert over toward wanting a revolution which is just more to do

Yes take them. You get a lot more land.

Sorry for the thread necro, but... OP, I think you may be misunderstanding what happens when a native gifts a settlement to you. What happens is that their braves abandon the settlement, move somewhere else, and you gain border control of the former settlement tile. The secondary benefit of this is that it reduces the diplo penalty for your threatening way of life.

Not only is it more room for you, it also makes life a lot harder for the the colonial power. Until it becomes your land, they can more easily move in it.

However, it is really a drag when a nearby settlement that teaches a good trade suddenly disappears. It is wise not to poison the well if you plan to drink the water. Use up your training opportunties before putting cultural pressure on those settlements.

True. And they're a source of bodies too when you have a mission.

Take them
