This is a planning thread for The Groß Tourney @ The Marillon and the palace at Süd-Besitz.

You should've all heard of the Marilllon before, it's famous stables are well-known throughout the land and it has housed SEVERAL tourneys. All the horse events will be held on the lands of Vanir around the marillon.

You probably haven't heard of the Palace at Süd-Besitz yet. Süd-Besitz is the name of the lands given to me by shaitan(see the princedom of vanir thread), the Palace is a wonderful small palace just recently built. This is where the feasting for the tourney will occur as well as all the events except the horse events and a few others.

Now this is only a planning thread, the tourney is a ways away from now but I need suggestions.

If you want to make a donation to the tourney fund I have set one up at the BoV.

The only things that will be done in this thread is some technical work, idea contribution, donations, and you can join the tournament in this thread if you are joining all events. If you only want to join a specific event you have to wait for an event list to join. There is currently no tourney start date set, nor is there a final thread for the tourney, this is just a planning thread :)

So post your thoughts/comments/ideas :)

Events:

High Joust - The traditional knight on knight with a lance.
Prefered horse: Heavy warhorse

Low Joust - A horsemanship exibition, unarmored, where the contestants try to catch rings and other objects and strike small targets with their spears while riding.
Prefered horse: Light warhorse or hunter

The Lists - Combat while ahorse.
Prefered horse: Medium or heavy warhorse

Horse racing - Standard start here, end here, first one across the line wins.
Prefered horse: Thoroughbred

Steeplechase - Over hill and over dale, jumping obstacles and ducking branches.
Prefered horse: Hunter

Performance - Trick riding, skill displays.
Prefered horse: Hunter, Thoroughbred

Mock hunt - Steeplechase riding followed by archery while ahorse.
Prefered horse: Hunter

Archery

Wardart, javelin, spear throw

Grand melee - Everybody gets into a big square. The last one to yield wins.

Subtourneys:

Wrestling - Well it's wrestling stupid ;)

Duel - Mano a mano, to first touch, first blood or to the death.

Contestants will be matched up in pairs and the winners will advance to the next round.

Notes:

Circuit race, performance horse and steeplechase have 500g added to first prize and a 100g booby prize for last place from Prince Shaitan.

If you don't have any skill points in an area then you can't compete in it, RPG rules, sorry :)

The events will be everything listed in the character rules post in the combined rules thread and I'll post that here soon.

Prizes:

Planned prizes are 300 for 1st, 200 for 2nd, 100 for 3rd for each event. However, the horse events will have 800 1st, 200 2nd, 100 3rd, and 100 for last :)

I'll join.. I don't think I have a character yet, or any stats... And, with lots of players being in the game for months, I probably don't stand a chance..

@CT..I'll help you set up your character and get what you need to be competitive...there will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each event and a prize for the "best sport" which yu could always win :)

I will participate in all events. There's some extra coin in it for you. I owe naervod a trouncing or two. ;)

Vanir will subsidize the gentlemanly horsemanship contests. We will add 500g to the first prize for circuit race, performance horse and steeplechase events and add a 100g booby prize for the last place in each of these contests.

The steeplechase today is what you always see when newscasts show cultured riding. Massive horses being riden by gorgeous people in skin tight tan pants and a black smoking jacket and those funky little bucket helmets. They go around an obstacle course jumping over fences, ponds and bushes. Each horse and rider are individually timed and penalties are applied for striking or avoiding obstacles.

Our steeplechase is a bit less...couth. We run the original steeplechase which is a hell on hooves race through forest and broken terrain. The only trails are the ones you make yourself. Steeplechase is also the most critical skill for fox hunting (which is where the whole thing originated).

I just discovered where the "steeple" in steeplechase came from and Chieftess was almost correct. In the open races, church steeples were used as the landmarks to guide the racers as they were generally the tallest objects in the area.

Would you happen to have a large enough area to hold some melee events?

BTW, competitor list is updated in post #2 of this thread, I'll add the events in soon.

Added in a basic events list. I'll be making modifications and taking suggestions. I'll also try and make a more 'prettied' up version of it too.

How about some more "intelligent" events? Like a philosophical debatte, religious disputes or a inventor's contest?

And yes, Doughnutia has a great many open fields for these types of events. Better yet, perhaps the Great Hall of the Augusta Palace could serve this purpose.
