View Full Version : Preview: Challenger 2
utahjazz7 Dec 24, 2002, 10:16 PM I've posted the completed unit in the units' forum.
This is a picture of the model, which I created to make the Challenger 2 (http://www.army-technology.com/projects/challenger2/index.html) MBT. You can tell me what's wrong with it, but I seriously doubt that I'll change anything, (Zulu). ;) I'm looking at making the animations this weekend, hopefully.
Ah, I forgot to mention that this is an English tank, but a variant has also been tested in Greece and Saudi Arabia. It could also be for any civilization that you wish.

Kinboat Dec 24, 2002, 10:29 PM Looks good to me... Despite those that say the color should be darker on your units I think it looks great, too dark and it just ends up as a blob.

Thanks, Kinboat.
This unit's color is darker, but I used a much lighter gray for my ambiant light and that helped bring out some more detail. I'm looking for a happy medium somewhere. Mayber this is it. :)

bhiita Dec 24, 2002, 11:05 PM I just looked at yours and the one from your link and I do have to you're pretty good at that:)
Yoda Power Dec 25, 2002, 02:28 AM Another nice unit from you, thanks:)
zulu9812 Dec 25, 2002, 03:09 AM It's very nice, although the gun barrel should be longer.
Dragon King Dec 25, 2002, 04:22 AM As you said, you probably wont change it, but i think it would look good with camo. I cant wait to have this unit in my game, ive even created one in all my scenarios just it uses the modern armor flcs. I MUST HAVE THIS UNIT!!!
zulu9812 Dec 25, 2002, 07:57 AM And yes, camo is a good idea

Well, I originally had the barrel longer, but it looked too long. I just moved the barrel back inside the tank, so I can bring it out a little bit more. As for camo . . . I tried to create a few different camo schemes but none of them turned out looking well. The camo pattern always looked too small. Plus, in my opinion, camo doesn't show up very well at CivIII size. If someone knows how to make good-looking camo, I will consider adding it. I saw Vdog's camo on his type-98, but I do not . . . prefer . . . the look of it. I do like Boulboulgadol's camo on his Leclerc--I think it was the Leclerc.

Cimbri Dec 25, 2002, 09:37 AM Here’s a Challenger II of British Army. Your version looks stunningly similar.
British Version in dark green Camouflage:
alpha wolf 64 Dec 26, 2002, 02:14 AM winderful looking unit. cant wait to add it to the british units.
utahjazz7 Dec 27, 2002, 04:59 PM Well, I should be done this weekend, barring a great tragedy. That's all I have to do is paste frames into the storeyboard. That shouldn't take too long at all, as long as there are no hick-ups. I did have some problems with my Rhino file so "hold on to your butts"--Jurassic Park.
I did extend the barrel slightly and make the green a duller, more red green . . . if that makes sense to non-art majors. By the way, I'm looking for permanent employment. I graduated magna cum laude last Saturday with a Bachelor of Art degree in Art History and a Bachelor of Art degree in Studio Art with a concentration in Photography. Any job offers out there? Anybody?
utahjazz7 Dec 27, 2002, 09:52 PM Well, she's done. I'm posting her in the units' forum ASAP.
