I just received PTW for Christmas, and am looking for fellow players willing to commit to an extended PBEM game.

I haven't played any MP PTW yet, and typically play CIV3 on the Monarch level. I can commit to playing a turn a day.

Feel free to private message me or post if you're interested.

I'm in and i call the Scandinavians. Their may be some days i am not home. This game will probably last more than a year going at 1 turn a day. I think we should alow each player a certain amount of off days. If this is ok you can e-mail me at krw72588@aol.com to set things up. I play well on emperor i guess that puts me on top. :king:

I have no problem with the game going for a year or more; I've always considered Civ to be an "epic" game, anyway. This is actually the first of multiple PBEM games in which I'd like to be involved, given that they will tend to run over a greatly extended period of time, and that there will likely be a good deal of lag time between turns.

What do you mean by "off" days, though? Do you just mean that we as a group play with the understanding that players are allowed to take more than a day for their turn? I have no problem with that, so long as everyone is conscientious about letting everyone else know if they're not going to be available, and when they can expect the next turn.

Wow - I wasn't expecting this much of a resonse so quickly. OK, so far we've the following players:

heihojin (me) - I haven't decided on my civ yet, I might pick it randomly for fun
fangnasher - possible, need e-mail address
Sgt. Hellfish - possible, need e-mail address
Philflesh - definite
DogBoy - definite (Russia)
krw72588 - definite (Scandinavia)
purvisxiii - definite (Persia), need e-mail address

If anyone else wants to play, either PM me or post a reply. If all spots are filled, then we'll have a couple of alternate spots. PM me if you'd like my e-mail address before the game starts.

I haven't even installed PTW yet, and won't get around to it until Sunday morning. Assuming that all spots are filled by then, you can expect the first turn to go out by late Sunday morning Arizona time (Mountain Standard Time).

Please post recommendations for rules, map settings, etc.

Heihojin, this is and it isn't the "official" PBEM board. This is mainly the multiplayer board for people looking to hook up and play, as well as questions and answers about multiplayer. If you look at the top there is a link for people looking to play specific PBEM games. I have attached the URL (hope it works)

PBEM specific board (http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=90)

Ahhh...and this whole time I thought that link at the top of the page was just redundant. :)

Cool, thanks.

Heihojoin, Since it looks likes several new people are going to play this game, we need to make sure everybody has the 1.14f patch. I recommend when you send out a mass e-mail to all those playing, that you mention for everyone to get the patch. You can find it at several places:

1.14f Patch at civ3.com (http://www.civ3.com/patches.cfm)

1.14f Patch at our very own civfanatics (http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3patches.shtml)

Can't wait to get started.

I'd like to join if you still have room please - (standard map = up to 8 players?). I have Civ3 1.29 and PTW 1.14. I have pm'd you my email add.

I would like to play as the Celts.

You will see both from my registration date and my number of posts that I am inexperienced - be gentle with me:eek:

In answer to your question about parameters:

- standard map 8 players should be good - lots of early contact will help as game is likely to appear v slow at first
- lots of land; see above and seas/oceans really slow things down (at all stages IMHO)
- rule about no contact by email until civs have met on map? should be included IMO
- when contact established, diplomacy by email ok - if we use dip screen only and we get one turn a week the haggling could go on for ages

I realise that with 8 players play will be protracted, particularly at the beginning when each turn will be relatively short. I will therefore quite understand if you think you have enoughplayers already. My plan/intent though is to try and have a few PBEM games at the same time. Although I have speedy connection and PC will rarely if ever have enough time to play a MP game. I can however commit to turning round the email on a daily basis.

Here's the definite player list so far:

heihojin (me) - random civ
Philflesh - no civ picked
DogBoy - Russia
krw72588 - Scandinavia
purvisxiii - Persia
prettyvacant - Celts

Either fangnasher or Sgt. Hellfish have first dibs on the last spot (I assume it allows 8 players) if they get their e-mail address to me by tomorrow morning. If anyone else wants to play, send me your e-mail address and civ preference. If you do not indicate a civilization preference, you will get one at random.

If you have further suggestions for rules, game settings, map settings, etc., please let me know; otherwise, no complaining when the game starts.

Thanks to everyone for the great response! This is my first PBEM game, and I'm really excited.

Here are the final 8 players:

heihojin (me) - random civ
Philflesh - random civ
DogBoy - Russia
krw72588 - Scandinavia
purvisxiii - Persia
prettyvacant - Celts
Sgt.Hellfish - Greece
Kevinicus - Rome

I'll be sending the introductory mass e-mail shortly. If you didn't make the list, you can still be an alternate in the event a player drops out. If things go smoothly with this one, I'm planning on starting a second game soon...

You'll get all of them for the sake of convenience, but you'll also get the turn sequence.

A non-aggression pact, you mean? I don't see why not, so long as you've established contact with the other player's civ. Of course, a "Peace Treaty" seems to imply the same thing to me...

As far as other agreements, feel free to create whatever pacts you wish with the other players, so long as you've established contact with their civs.

As I'm sure you have read from the related e-mail exchange, this game will continue to be played as v1.14f until all players have access to the v1.21f patch.

If you need to create two distinct installations of Civ3:PTW on your PC, please follow these directions:
Copy the entire CIV3PTW folder to some other directory (perhaps C:\), and rename the copy (perhaps as "CIV3PTW v1.21f").
Uninstall Civ3:PTW and restart your computer.
Reinstall Civ3:PTW.
Download the v1.14f patch from here (http://www.civfanatics.net/files/civ3/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=538).
Install the v1.14f patch.
This way when you launch Civ3:PTW normally, it will pull up as v1.14f. When you want to play v1.21f, browse to the copied directory you made and launch "Civilization3X.exe" (the executable). You can also create a shortcut to this file on your desktop; just be sure to label it as "v1.21f".

Note that even when using two distinct installations, your default Saves folder will always be in your Civilization III\CIV3PTW folder, and **NOT** the copied folder you made!

This may sound complex, and I apologize for the need to do this. If you have any questions or need any assistance, please ask - I will do my utmost to ensure that this is as painless as possible for you, and that this game survives.
