I'm on Mac as you may know but I have problem with the new patch I've installed.

Actally sometimes I can't investigate in cities with diplomates or spies anymore. And I can't even make negociations with other AI civs since the neg. window closes as soon as they say "hello".

Anyone has faced the same problem?

5.4 should technically be 5.4.0f (Microprose Patch #3, March 1999). It is only for Civ II MGE.

What was the source of your patch? It wasn't one of the 3rd party hacked patches was it?

I've run 5.4.0f for 2 years, and even patched one version to run without a CD (a totally unoffical NO-CD patch) . With the NO-CD patch, you never get any diplomatic sreens, wonder movies, advisors, or anything that normally resides on CD-ROM.

But this does not explain your inability to investigate a city with spies, something I do a lot.

Where did you get it from?
A pc patch will be alot different than a mac patch since they use different code.

I've never heard of this patch. The pc patch is 1.3.Least it was.

All the patches including the mac patch are available in the downloads section.

There is only one patch for MAC MGE and that is v1.1.1.Microprose had nothing to do with the mac patch. It was a former MacSoft employee Brian Nesse that did it ON HIS OWN.MacSoft tech support abandoned us but Mr. Nesse did not.We are eternally grateful or multiplaying would have remained impossible for mac users.Every pre pc patch bug and then some made cross platform games a fable and mac to mac games a joke.Barb freezes were common.Delivering a caravan would freeze it.Diplomacy would freeze it.Map exchanges would freeze it.I could go on and on and on.

If you're in human resources and the name Brian Nesse comes across your desk..hire him immediately and double the normal salary http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif

Microprose

You have to have the correct PC/MAC variation, since the PC/MAC 5.4.0f is not interchangable between platforms.

It still is. Microprose has a very nonstandard naming convention for patches in Civ II. PC Patch 1.3 is 5.4.0f.

In Civ II, go to the Game pull-down menu, and look at Game Options. If you installed 1.3, the top of the pop up window will report "Civilization II Multiplayer Gold 5.4.0f Multiplayer 26-March-99 Patch 3"

You have to automatically "know" the various names that a patch is called. It is very confusing, and has caused lots of wasted time worldwide with people always trying to "upgrade" when there is nothing to upgrade. Its all in the name http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif.

Cool info, I had no idea about all the MAC issues. I naively assumed the MAC crowd was taken care of by Microprose. As usual, the naming conventions gets muddier across platforms, LOL!

Mmm...interesting...http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif

To answer your previous question I found the patch on a d/l site when I typed something like Mac civ patch on lycos.
BTW I don't get why TF doesn't have this patch in the d/l section....I'll ask.
