OK, I have a newbie question that is bugging me. How do you turn off the auto save feature in the game? I can't seem to find it in the options menu.

Thanks!

Go to My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization IV Colonization and edit CivilizationIV.ini to set AutoSaveInterval = 0

Go to My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization IV Colonization and edit CivilizationIV.ini to set AutoSaveInterval = 0

OK, I tried doing this by setting my auto save as 0 but whenever I start a new game, the auto save function still appears! What is the cause of this?

I tried saving the file with notepad but whenever I start a new game and go back to the auto save, it reverts back to 5! How should I go about saving this?

Thanks! I tried this for hours but it still did not work!

Anyone facing the same weird problem? Apparently, notepad saves my changes but when I start a new game, the autosave function still appears. Then I go back into the file and the function reverts back to the old one, not saving my changes to the autosave!

How do I turn this off?

Go to My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization IV Colonization and edit CivilizationIV.ini to set AutoSaveInterval = 0

OK, I finally found the cause of my problem. Apparently, the file to be changed is the Civilization IV configuration setting file; NOT the BAK file which is Civilization IV.ini!

The incorrect statement you gave me troubled me greatly, mate!

That's certainly strange, it works fine on my system. I went back and tested it again. The file I edited was the Configuration settings file 'CivilizationIV.ini' and the original code was:

; Specify the number of turns between autoSaves. 0 means no autosave.
AutoSaveInterval = 4

I changed it to 0, resulting in no autosaves as advertised. It remained at zero after playing a game, and it is still at zero after restarting my PC.

You mention the BAK file. Is this 'CivilizationIV.ini.bak' and is this the file you changed?

I was actually changing the BAK file, which is incorrect. The file that should be changed is the configuration file.

Nevertheless, I managed to correct this.

Cheers!

Or another method to disable autosave is to press Shift + Control + A!

I hope this is helpful to our readers here!
