If you can find it go with gold.
It includes normal civ2(more hostile ai though) and Fantastic Worlds which allows you to play many good scenarios with events.txt.Tons of very goods one available as scenario makers have had years to create.

Might as well have the MP option as well.

PC needs the cd.There is a "no cd " crack available though.
..or you could make a BACK UP copy..in case of fire or theft of course...well you figure it out.

or...you can get Cedric's update and make 2.42 into MGE http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif
