Stuck_as_a_Mac Jan 01, 2003, 05:06 PM good going goonie. Good luck steering this province into a productful future
Goonie Jan 02, 2003, 09:30 AM I have a request to re-draw the borders of three provinces : "Gem mountain", North and Southwest. Map of the area. (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads3/fanatika-690ad.jpg) You can see that the city of Dapperdan is in the Gem mountains, but not in my province. I request the we redraw the borders so that "Gem mountains" borders reach 2 tiles SE of Dapperdan and 1 tile Northeast of Dapperdan. My second request is the 6 tile chunk of the Southwest province that reaches into the Gem mountains and that is also beside Dapperdan become part of the "Gem Mountain" province. Any one who can attach an image, please do!
Goonie
Shaitan Jan 02, 2003, 09:44 AM Dapperdan lies between the Gem Mountains and the Spine, it's not in the Gem Mountains themselves. Although you may have a decent argument to take the mountain tiles from Southwest Province, I think Dapperdan should remain in the North Province.
Goonie Jan 02, 2003, 10:11 AM Shaitan do you get the final call, or is there a vote?
Shaitan Jan 02, 2003, 10:20 AM It goes through normal channels. I've got no more say than any other citizen. ;)
Start a discussion thread on the proposed changes. After 24 hours of discussion, propose a poll. 24 hours after that, an official and binding poll can be posted to change the borders.

Dapperdan is clearly in the Gem mountains. Just on the outskirts. It is surronded by mountains with gems on them. I dont know how you can say it is not located in the gem mountains!
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads3/fanatika-670ad-08-lg.jpg
Shaitan Jan 02, 2003, 12:12 PM It's in the hills between the two sets of mountains. The mountains to the north and west of Dapperdan have gems, the ones to the south and east are a different chain. Dapperdan itself is next to both chains but not in either.
Chieftess Jan 02, 2003, 12:14 PM I also agree that those tiles in the "panhandle" make the other province a bit of an eyesore... I support the change.
FortyJ Jan 02, 2003, 04:41 PM Come on now... an "Eyesore"...? ;)
Just keep in mind, that all provinicial borders must be consistent with the underlying geographical terrain. While I can see a valid argument for converting the 6 SW province tiles to the Gem Mountain control, I can't really find an argument for taking the tiles from the North Province as that border is clearly defined by the southwest face of that mountain range.
Shaitan Jan 02, 2003, 05:37 PM I can see the mountain tiles from Southwest going to Gem Mountain but I don't think there's any reason to give Gem Mountain any grasslands on the other side of the mountain range. The border should stop at the mountains.
Goonie Jan 02, 2003, 06:07 PM Ok. Fine change in proposal. Give Gem Dapperdan and the mountain beside it. That way we are sticking to only mountains.
Octavian X Jan 02, 2003, 06:13 PM That sounds like a plan to me. I've always thought this province was too small, in both cities and size. Besides, if we are to follow plans I've heard about for later settling in North Province, it'll be full of cities, and probably won't miss that one.
FionnMcCumhall Jan 02, 2003, 06:35 PM i need to see build queus here or in the turn chat thread as soon as possible, if they are not there soon, i will be forced to write them as well. Thanks

Goonie Jan 02, 2003, 06:49 PM OOPPS! I didn't know there was a T/C tonight. Let me finish them!
FionnMcCumhall Jan 02, 2003, 06:58 PM there isnt a turn chat tonight but i need them so i can review them to make sure they are in proper order
Strider Jan 02, 2003, 08:25 PM Congrats Goonie on the poistion!!! Can't believe when I met you in the chat awhile ago you'd become a govonor!
I also agree to the change..... Even though Shaitan put a strong arguement and perfect reason why it isn't in the gem mountains.... I see no reason why it shouldn't be...... Just because it's next to both chains does not mean that it can belong to one and not the other. The Gem Mountain Province has better need of the city than any of the others.
Also have you thought of a name yet?
Goonie Jan 02, 2003, 10:23 PM Unfortunately I am still deciding. Right now I am leaning towards a Latin name. But I will leave you guys hanging.. I cant believe how qucikly I picked up the DG. Its because of all you nice guys and gals out there who answered all my questions.

TNG Jan 02, 2003, 11:03 PM Any cities open for mayor?
gunning1 Jan 03, 2003, 12:40 AM Wow, this has to be the fastest province thread to reach 2 pages! TNG, there most likely are some, check in the first post...
Shaitan Jan 03, 2003, 04:05 AM Mountains yes, Dapperdan no. There's just no way that Dapperdan would have been a part of Gem Mountain. Look at the map. From Dapperdan you can journey over some hills to North Province. It shares coast with North Province. You can take a trek through the forest to Southwest Province. In order to go to Gem Mountain you have to try to climb the Himalayas there.
Gem Mountain's border needs to be that massive mountain chain, not 4 tiles of mountain and then a city on the other side of them.
Cyc Jan 03, 2003, 04:17 AM I agree with Shaitan. Dapper Dan was founded before our Modern Engineers were capable of building the roads through the Gem Mountains. That right there draws the original Provincial borderline and shows the attachment to the North Province.
Goonie Jan 03, 2003, 10:26 AM "It shares coast with North Province. "- Shaitan
It also shares the coast with "Gem Mountain" province.
"You can take a trek through the forest to Southwest Province. " - Shaitan
WRONG! From Dapperdan, you must go over mountain to get to the Southwest Province.
Shaitan have you seen the revised proposal? If not, look at it.
Dapperdan is clearly between mountains with gems on them. So it should be in the "Gem Mountain" Province.
40J has said that provincial borders are consistent with the physical lay of the land. If this is correct, Dapperdan fits better into "Gem Mountain" province than the North Province
Goonie Jan 03, 2003, 10:32 AM I have mayoral positions available. All my citites are lacking mayors. If intrested, please reply in this thread, or PM me.
FortyJ Jan 03, 2003, 11:32 AM Goonie
I believe you have mistakenly misinterpreted my position. I did state that the provincial borders must be consistent with the underlying geographical terrain. This requirement applies to all provinces.
The mountain range that seperates the North and Southwest provinces dead-ends at Dapperdan. The provincial border between those two provinces runs along the southwest side of those mountains. There is no logical reason to suddenly move the border through that mountain range over to the foothills.
I have also stated that the tiles which the people of Dapperdan will be working are going to be to the north and east of the city, and not in the mountains. By moving Dapperdan into your province, we would effectively move the city into your province, but the tiles being worked would remain in the North province.
Of course, this is a common occurrence with cities along rivers (particularly those rivers that define other provincial borders), but in this case, we're not talking about a 50/50 split of controlled workable tiles. Almost all of the tiles your workers would be using would be in a different province. It's more practical that Dapperdan remain a part of the North province.
trader/warrior Jan 03, 2003, 12:40 PM hehe! i just got a great idea. lets rename Ise to HELMS DEEP and Shimonseki to ISENGARD and name the province GONDOR!
Cyc Jan 03, 2003, 01:15 PM An Informational Poll has been started HERE. (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?postid=687761#post687761) This poll deals with "PLAN A" concerning Military production. Please vote. This poll will remain open for approximately 24 hours. Governors are encouraged to voice their opinions.
Goonie Jan 03, 2003, 02:29 PM I have come to a decision about the name of the province.... Montis abeo gramen.
Shaitan Jan 03, 2003, 02:33 PM Death grass mountain? ;)
I'll change your thread title for you.
TNG Jan 03, 2003, 03:02 PM I'm interested in becoming mayor of Ise.

TNG Jan 03, 2003, 04:13 PM Thank You
Shaitan Jan 03, 2003, 05:54 PM @Goonie - Your change only affected the title on the first post. I changed the actual thread title for you.
Goonie Jan 03, 2003, 06:14 PM Oh. THANK YOU! Can you change it to Province of....
Shaitan Jan 03, 2003, 09:10 PM Sure thing. :)

TNG Jan 04, 2003, 05:56 PM Thanks for the Info strider.
TNG Jan 04, 2003, 06:08 PM After the Library in Ise we should build a harbor for more food potential from the coast.
Goonie Jan 04, 2003, 09:21 PM We cant. Ise is not on the coast...
TNG Jan 04, 2003, 09:27 PM When it expands.
TNG Jan 04, 2003, 09:29 PM Sorry, is that okay or not?
Goonie Jan 04, 2003, 09:43 PM The city has to be right on the coast to be able to build a harbor. ;)!
TNG Jan 04, 2003, 10:06 PM really?
FionnMcCumhall Jan 05, 2003, 12:36 AM attention governor/department leader.
If you need something rushed, or upgraded please post so in the budget thread located here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=40496) . Check to see how much it costs then post the amount and the reason it needs to be rushed, or upgraded.
Thanks

Goonie Jan 05, 2003, 08:18 PM amirsan has resigned after being appointed govenor of Hafen Land(I believe). Trader/warrior I hope you apply for the position. Anyone can apply. Post in this thread if you are intrested.
Shaitan Jan 07, 2003, 04:04 AM A poll for the often suggested counterproposal to the various Dappergrab plans has been posted. This proposal deals only with the mountains from the panhandle of the Southwest Province moving to MAG Province and leaves Dapperdan and the North Spine alone. Vander Jan 16, 2003, 05:25 PM I'll take up the job of deputy gov or mayor, whatever is needed. I'd like to help.
Gingerbread Man Jan 25, 2003, 03:48 AM Hi I'm back. If you need your dep gov to cover for you, just say so.
Your exams that you talk of should gave started now, have they?
Gingerbread Man Jan 25, 2003, 04:15 AM About Ise -
I can assume after a little observation that Ise has waste at about 20%. So irrigate the one grassland that it does have, and mine or build forests on the two tundra that have roads on them. this will let the city grow to size 4 (or 5 with RR), and it will have a net production of about four (or six with RR), which is better than 1.
Goonie Jan 28, 2003, 11:19 AM @Gingerbread man. You have much to learn. You should have posted all your build queues and micromanagement instructions in the turn chat instructions started by the prez! Dont worry I handled it for you. Look at my queues here then at the turn chat instructions for an idea of how to do this! You will need to know this because I nominated you for Govenor of this Province as I am seeking Govenorship in another province!
I am changing back to improvements in certain cities, because A) They are too small to produce a military unit by the end of our wars or B) Only have 1 or no improvements. In this cities I am adding very important improvements to help growth!
Shimonoseki (5)Harbour, (12)Granary
Novgorod (4)Harbour, (60) Granary
Some Forest outside Novgorod would be nice. This is an outstanding request.
Bizen (8)Granary
Please road to the gold and mine it!
Please mine the two grassland tiles closet to Tokyo that already have roads on it.
Please place a worker on a grassland tile. To get rid of the entertainer.
Ise (15) Library
Hakodate (3) Rifleman, (15) Marketplace
Continue with irrigation of tile. Irrigate the tile on the opposite side of the river, then please irrigate the game. Roads as well.
Gingerbread Man Jan 28, 2003, 08:04 PM Yeah sorry, but I was on holidays. I think I mentioned it somewhere, but most probably in the wrong place. It would have been best to notify someone here.
So to make sure that this doesn't happen again, I'll check the turn chat thread the night before it happens, and if you haven't posted anything I will. (by the way I'm talking the night before in Australian hours. why am i cursed with an inconvenient timezone? :))
Goonie Jan 29, 2003, 06:27 AM LOL! Well I am no longer Govenor of this province. I think as soon as elections are over, you take over as no one challenged you! You need to make a thread with the title.
Term 5 - Province of Montis abeo Gramen. Look at the first page of this thread for the type of info you should put in the first post. Also check out other provincial threads for more ideas!
Anyways, I hope you had fun, I hope you have fun, and its good to see more commonwealthers around. Im Canadian :)!

Goonie, you're still the governor until Feb 1st.
So who's going to be the govenor for the next turn chat? Does that mean I'm gov as of the 1st?
Goonie Jan 29, 2003, 06:19 PM Im not sure GbM! I did not know, that we were having another turn chat. I will post instructions for this turn chat if thats ok :)!
Gingerbread Man Jan 29, 2003, 08:01 PM yeah thats fine.
I have both short and long term plans for the province, if you want them.
Goonie Jan 29, 2003, 08:15 PM Sure lay them at me, and I will tell you what I think. It was hard for me to get any IMPROVEMENTS, because war came so early and I was told to go to military :(!
Gingerbread Man Jan 29, 2003, 10:09 PM Ok here's my plan -
Ise - Finish library, then I dont now what.
i'll suggest when we get electricity, irrigate the one grassland it does have, eventually railroading it, then move the two remaining laborers to the mountans of gems, and mine them. Once that is finished, build marketplace (15 turns @ 7spt)
Hakodate - Marketplace, Barracks (3 turns)
irrigate the mined grassland, mine the hill, mine another mountain. place laborers on the newly mined mountan.
Bizen - finish cavalry (14 turns), Aqueduct (20), Marketplace (20)
move the grassland that is generating no shields onto the forest. we will lose 1gpt, but will gain 2spt, making the build que like this:
Cavalry (10), Aqueduct (15), Marketplace (15)
Shimoneski - Finish granary (5), Marketplace (15)
forest the tundra. if we want to reach max production for the city (which is 23 shields per turn minus corruption) we need to forest four more tundra, or alternatively mine and railroad when we can.
Novgorod - Granary (54)
forest one of the tundra, and move one of the laborers from the coast to the new forest. that will halve build time for the granary.
an exception to all these would be that someone could put a military unit in these lines if it is necessary. I realise that this province is very close to the war, in which case all of the production lines would be replaced with:
City x - Finish what you are doing, then Cavalry.
also, a list of all the cities max production and max population:
Novgorod - 5spt, 16 with offshore platform, @ 13 pop
Shimoneski - 17spt, 23 with o'shore platform, @ 14 pop
Bizen - 42spt with max laborers
Ise - 8spt @ 3 pop
Hakodake 20spt @ 9 pop
this is with all used tundra forested, all grassland, + all used mountains and hills railroaded. THIS IS A LONG TERM PLAN.
with a bit of work, a supposedly minor province could be an industry giant!
Goonie Jan 30, 2003, 08:58 AM Good job! I think you should post these as your turn chat instructions! I dont like that Cavalary in Bizen. This province needs to be able to build for once!
Gingerbread Man Jan 31, 2003, 12:05 AM Sure, for this Turn chat? I'll remove that cavalry, it wont come in time to be useful seeing that Babylon will have been halved by the time it is finished.
p.s. yes, great to see some commonweathers. sadly, however, some Australians, due to what I think is excessive Americanisation, Want australia to be a republic, and leave the commonweath. Next they'll be asking for us to adopt imperial measurements, adopt US currency, adopt US dictionary, and soon, rename our country 'United States of Australia'!
Anyway enough of my political ravings. :)
Oh and be careful of the length of your signature. Moderators get thingy about long sigs. Maybe remove the white spaces...
Donovan Zoi Jan 31, 2003, 04:29 PM Governor Goonie,
On your last day in office, please consider the following suggestions for tomorrow's chat:
Bizen
Switch from cavalry to worker; build 2 more workers
Shimonoseki
Switch from granary to aqueduct
