View Full Version : Border Re-drawing
Goonie Jan 03, 2003, 10:44 AM I have a request to re-draw the borders of three provinces : "Gem mountain", North and Southwest. You can see that the city of Dapperdan is in the Gem mountains, but not in my province. I request the we redraw the borders so that "Gem mountains" borders reach 1 tiles SE of Dapperdan and 1 tile North of Dapperdan. My second request is the 6 tile chunk of the Southwest province that reaches into the Gem mountains and that is also beside Dapperdan become part of the "Gem Mountain" province. Any one who can attach an image, please do! This is the revised proposal from the input of Chieftess. I am not smart enough to make a pic, so anyone who can, please do.
Goonie
edit. Some old discussion on the old proposal can be found here. (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=40504&pagenumber=2)
Shaitan Jan 03, 2003, 11:01 AM I vote no. There is no call for moving Dapperdan to the "Gem Mountain" province. It shares border and hill territory with North Province but there is absolutely no simple travel from Dapperdan to Gem Mountain - you'd have to hike over 4 tiles of mountain to get anywhere in there.
The border should be the mountains so giving Gem Mountain the grassland and forest from Southwest province is also a bad idea.
Goonie Jan 03, 2003, 11:03 AM Dapperdan is surronded by moutains on all sides with gems on them. I dont know how anyone can say its not in the " Gem Mountain" province
Shaitan Jan 03, 2003, 11:10 AM Dapperdan has mountains around it but only the ones to the west and south have gems. The ones to the east are part of the defining spine of mountains of the North Province. The only movement from Dapperdan that does not go into a mountain tile is to the east where there are hills.
FortyJ Jan 03, 2003, 11:37 AM Goonie
The name "Gem Mountain Province" was given solely for the purposes of discussion while we were establishing these borders. It was not intended as a mandate to include all lands surrounding those mountains that contain Gems. If that were the case, we should also consider expanding the North province to include all lands North of our capitol.
Cyc Jan 03, 2003, 12:04 PM Sorry, Goonie. I have to vote no.
Goonie Jan 03, 2003, 01:55 PM @40J.
I understand what you are saying, but you said borders follow terrain. Thats what I am trying to do. Make the borders follow the terrain!
Actually this is going well for my proposal I think. The 3 that I knew would vote no have already done so...
TNG Jan 03, 2003, 03:10 PM Gems aren't terrain
Shaitan Jan 03, 2003, 03:20 PM Please include a graphic of the change that you want here. A link to the discussion thread is also needed.

Mountains are the terrain. The gems are also on the mountains! Have you ever even seen a pic of what we are talking about?
TNG Jan 03, 2003, 03:54 PM Hey, i'm trying to help you!

A pic would be very helpful and should be here in the poll.
Goonie Jan 03, 2003, 06:15 PM I have made one, but have tried and failed in the discussion to post it.
Plexus Jan 03, 2003, 06:28 PM I voted no, sorry Goonie.
Chieftess Jan 03, 2003, 06:55 PM I vote yes. The mountains should be in 1 province, and the panhndle is a bit of an eyesore.
Immortal Jan 03, 2003, 07:00 PM I voted yes.
Strider Jan 03, 2003, 07:00 PM I voted yes.... for the above reason and this one:
Goonie is a dedicated govonor.... He shows potential. If we limit him to this small Size 1 and 2 city province then we might lose a chance to get a great govonor.
Shaitan Jan 03, 2003, 09:17 PM @Strider - That's not a very good reason. Goonie had his pick of 6 provinces with nobody to contest his governance and he chose this one. If he wanted a bigger province with more cities he could have had one.
@Chieftess - Unfortunately the proposal is for the mountains plus a city, grassland and a forest and an additional tile on the other side of Dapperdan.
I can't believe this proposal has a 50% approval when there isn't even a map of the borders! This is just crazy.
Immortal Jan 03, 2003, 09:20 PM visualize Shaitan! Expand your mind Narc ;)

Maybe he wanted this certain province. The pride to have a large amount of gems in the terrority... Who knows why he choose this province, but he won it and now I believe he deserves a bigger province. He is perfectly able to do the job and not letting him do it isn't very good.
It's not crazy... It just shows that some people like the idea.
Shaitan Jan 03, 2003, 09:22 PM Please also note that this is not Gem Mountain Province. It is the Province of Montis Abeo Gramen. A basic tenet of this requested change is that the mountains in question hold gems and the province was temporarily called "Gem Mountain". As that is no longer the case I ask for some justification why this change is still requested.

It did have the name.... It is still the province with large amounts of gem's and mountains. That has not changed even through the name has.

It shows that at least 7 people don't give enough of a flying rip to even care to see what the changes they are approving look like.

Southwest also has gems and mountains. By your logic we should expand Southwest to take the rest of the mountains with gems in them?
This proposal is BAD. It goes against our basic directive to make our provincial borders lie with natural terrain and I will challenge it as such. It would be easy for everybody else to see this if there was a graphic to show what the proposal looks like but I am apparently the only person who thinks that it is important to actually see the proposed new border before voting on it.

People do have there own Civ3 games.... There is a map that Goonie posted in the Govonor thread. 5 minutes of searching could bring the information they want.

You may think it is bad, but 7 people obviously does not think so.
Challange it all you want.... I will always be here to reply.

Do you know how weird that looks? That's going into my sig!
Shaitan Jan 03, 2003, 09:46 PM I do think that this proposal is illegal as it specifically and intentionally avoids using the natural borders present in order to snake a city from a neighboring province.
I also think the poll is improper as it does not even have a graphic of the proposal. There is a map of the area in the Province thread (not the discussion thread) but there is no link to that graphic or the thread the graphic is in and even that graphic does not show this proposed border.
Furthermore the poll lacks the requirements of a posted end date.
Strider Jan 03, 2003, 09:53 PM The proposal to me is perfectly Legal.... This province is small.... Size 1 and 2 cities cover it. If we change the bordors than it will give less to do to one govonor giving him more time to work on othe cities. and more to do to another govonor who is perfectly able to handling anothr city. Like I've said a few times.... Screw the Consitution. If the citizens will it to be so. Than let it be.
Octavian X Jan 03, 2003, 10:06 PM I vote yes. Half of this province is mountains. If anything, the province should be significantly expanded.

Thanks Oct!
8-8-1... It's the elections all over again!
Goonie Jan 03, 2003, 10:41 PM Shaitan you say that you voted no, because provincial borders must follow terrain. WELL THAT IS WHAT THIS PROPOSAL DOES!
Picture this. There is a block with a lind coming out of it. Why cut up that block? That is our current situation!
Zarn Jan 03, 2003, 10:47 PM I have to vote no on this. It doesn't seem to be a reasonable change.
Shaitan Jan 04, 2003, 07:41 AM Goonie, it does not follow the natural terrain. This proposal makes the province border the mountain ridge (which would be good) and then tacks on a hill tile, a grassland tile, a forest tile and one mountain tile from the next mountain chain.

Goonie. You have no on to blame for that than yourself ;). Don't worry.... you can always re-poll it with a screenshot.

Goonie Jan 04, 2003, 11:13 AM Zarn. Have you seen in the save the area we are talking aobut?
Shaitan Jan 04, 2003, 02:08 PM @Goonie - When you post a reply (with the "post reply" button, not the Quick Reply) there is a section at the bottom above the Submit button to "Attach File". You can use that to attach the graphic to your post and it will automatically recognize the file type and display it as an image.
Shaitan Jan 05, 2003, 05:47 PM This poll is over 48 hours old and the proposal was defeated.

Actually a new proposal similiary to this one is currently being discussed in the Citizens Forum (Not really discussed... So far everyone has liked it)
Goonie Jan 05, 2003, 06:13 PM Correct. The new proposal may be found here.

Shaitan Jan 07, 2003, 04:04 AM A poll for the often suggested counterproposal to the various Dappergrab plans has been posted. This proposal deals only with the mountains from the panhandle of the Southwest Province moving to MAG Province and leaves Dapperdan and the North Spine alone.
