I just bought my new computer a couple weeks ago and i already had to reinstall windows/format hard drive twice now. It's probably because me messing with the registry. But also is there any good antiviruses that you can download? All the ones on download dot com suck a lot. Thanks

How about Norton Antivirus? That has worked very well for me so far.

Not sure if it costs anything either.

For a free option, I find AVG 6.0 to be excellent. I did have Norton installed, but it completely failed to protect when I needed it. If it hadn't been for AVG, I'd have had to reformat my hard drive! Get it from http://www.grisoft.com

I used to be addicted to McAfee until the day I used W2000. It kept on crashing Win2000. I mean I installed properly the 2K OS. Then I installed all the display/peripheral/webcam/soundcard drivers and McAfee. But each time I right click on a file to have the classic menu it made a blue screen and autorebooted (since i enabled the autoreboot on fatal error on W2K). I thought it was due to one driver bug, especially ATI driver. But finally I uninstalled all drivers and left only McAfee. Blaam. It was that f**ing antivirus. I switched to Norton and since then, never had problem.

Ah! but on a friend's PC running XP, it took me 3 times to get Norton installed and working on it! I hate XP. All other people I gave Norton installed it and had it work at once. They were running either 98 or 2K. Wow XP rocks
So, be careful if you're using that stupid OS. Warning: if you fail to install norton on XP, it'll be pretty tricky and hard to uninstall it in order to reinstall properly again. Indeed, although I was logged as main admin account, XP kept on telling me I needed to be admin to uninstall norton!! Curse XP.
