1000 AD Conversion Scenario

http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=284896&d=1300393929

This scenario is out of date! It was made for vanilla, and not a recent version of that! Use at your own risk!

Current Version: 10

Content:

Contains 16 playable civs
1000 AD Earth Map
16 City States
All oldworld civs

Playable Civs: England, France, Germany, Byzantines, Arabia, Spain (NOT DLC), Vikings, India, Siam, China, Japan, Mongolia, Inca, Aztecs, Russians, Songhai, Ethiopia

This is a somewhat raw conversion of the 1000AD scenario from vanilla civ4. This is my first attempt at serious scenario making.
Most of the civilizations are converted over, exceptions being:

Spain - Put Custom Civ here
Vikings - Put Custom Civ here
Khmer/Barbs in SE Asia - Put Siam here
Byzantine - Put Custom Civ here
Barbs - Changed them to citystates and Egypt (read Ethiopia)
Korea - Put Custom Civ here

Changed the map by a couple of tiles, tried to balance resource amounts and tile ownership/starting improvements so that no one starts off irretrievably unhappy, but I know there will be balance issues as so far I haven't played as everyone, so playtesting and feedback is appreciated :). Currently there is only a game speed (date change) mod and a name changing mod comes with this. I recommend Info Addict, Barbarians!, and/or Improved Notifications

Please leave comments on bugs :satan: and balance issues (or anything else) so that I can update it for next patch!

Version 10 is up!
Currently there are few atolls on the map, as I haven't done enough playing to determine where they would be most useful (Carribean + Polynesia?)
Currently there is a bug which makes it impossible to pick a civ for some (me).

Version 11 is postponed indefinitely and this scenario is not updated to the latest version of civ 5.
I'll try to get out an update of some sort for the latest version of Civ 5 (1.01383)

Info Addict can be found here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=391069), or on the modbuddy (search "info addict").
Custom Notifications Mod can be found here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=411298)

Version 10 is available on modbuddy! Finally allowing me to upload again! (For whatever reason ) :king:

It should go in your maps folder in Civ 5, then open up mods, select any mods you want, chose the map, make sure you click "load scenario"!
Put it in your C:\Users\(Your Name)\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Maps

i like the concept but i dont like to mess with first versions. So i will lurk and see how this is recieved by the more adventurous souls.

But the real reason that i am writing now instead of lurking is to say "Thank you" for doing some work on RFC for civ 5.

All the sudden civ 5 doesnt look so bad.

Any chances for a DLC version? (I would also imagine changing Byzantium to Rome in that scenerio, with Spain being Spain again)

Ddude97
Feb 13, 2011, 12:28 PM
Not likely, because I don't have the DLC
Sometime around early April I might get the DLC, or when RFC comes out, and then I'll create a DLC version
I might change the Byzantines from Greek to Roman, but the Byzantines were more Greek in culture than Roman

Arabs cities were much larger than the Europeans . Baghdad in 800 AD had a million people at a time when the capital of Charlemagne - Aachen ten thousand. This figure has not really changed to 1000AD. Moreover, Arabs should have a little more land troops.

Sorry for bad English

Ddude97
Feb 21, 2011, 01:55 PM
Thanks for the input! :D I am aware of the actual historical difference, but increasing the Arab populations to reflect this would make an extremely overpowered Arabia, I will look into adding more troops for them.

Version 6 In Progress

Moved Paris 1 tile NW and put coal in old Paris's spot
Added plantation for unimproved dyes in NW France
Put trading post where random pasture was in central France
Removed 1 Al from tile NE of Marseille
Changed Aztalan from Maritime to Military CS
Changed Vienna from Cultural to Maritime CS

I noticed this when playing as France. Also Marseille isnīt actually on the Mediterranean coast, which makes the Galley there a bit weird...

(Vienna Maritime? Itīs not really on the coast though...)

Other than that - keep it up! ;)

Thank you for reminding me, I've been meaning to get rid of that galley. What do you mean you noticed that? They weren't in version 5...
I made Vienna maritime to boost the growth of Europe, if I moved it it would be Danzig instead and I wanted a border between Holy Rome and Russia so I put it in Vienna but if you think changing it would help, then I'd be glad to. :)

Are you running any mods?
This might be because of the map size (is that what you meant?), my computer has no problem but is above recommended specs in everything but RAM.

No mods, but I guess my vid card is under recommended specs, and xp. I believe I will be getting Windows 7 soon. The video card will take some time. Looks like I will need both before Rhye gets RFC finished.

Yeah, you might want to do that, as Rhye if I remember correctly is using a map size larger than huge 132x? or something like that.

@Bob_: It was a bit of work, but I enjoy it so...:)
I can not place the DLC civs as I don't have them, but if you open up the scenario in the worldbuilder (out of game) then you click scenario editor on top bar, then click the civ you want to change (ex. Rome to Spain), click on the drop down menu where it says "civilizations" and chose the civ you want in that place save, and open up in Civ 5. This should work, let me know if it doesn't.

If any are interested, I'd like to hear your opionions about including more coding to adding code to change the difficulty settings to add 12 happiness, so that I can get rid of the Natural Wonders in the Antarctic put there to increase starting happiness (Read = I'm taking a vote on whether to add coding for happiness). Note: this would make many mods incompatible with this scenario. I might also add an increased barb spawn rate based on difficulty level, as well as integrating parts of other mods/components (with their permission).

Dear Ddude97,

I suggest you look up on the new civilizations page so that you can turn the Vikings and other such civs playable on the game.
I would also suggest that you adjust the time scale so that it will be compatible with the ages and eras in the scenario
Some other Suggestions
-Remove the Incas and the Aztecs and replace them with city-states and barbarian camps, so that the Americas will be colonisable.
-Change Dublin's starting health, because no one's invading it.
-Always be awesome.
Anyway awesome scenario.

Your Friend,
HisAwesomeness

Ddude97
Mar 17, 2011, 01:54 PM
@HisAwesomeness and gijas: The time scale will be fixed in the upcoming version, it will match that of vanilla civ
I'm looking into adding the Vikings civilization by molnutz, but I'm waiting for his reply, and am also not great at coding, so it might take a while. Personally, I'd like to get rid of the Aztecs and Incas and put them as citystates, but I know many people like playing as them, but I'll look into it. Dublin was more of a test than anything, and I'll change it back in the next version.

Thanks for the input! :)

P.S. - If you see any Spain, or Byzantine custom made civs, let me know.

Thanks Ddude for listening and not getting mad. We're here to help. Anyway, if you can add more civ's that would make it a better map to play obviously. The Vikings are my fav but anything extra is good. Regarding your PS, I think I saw Byzantine as one of the civ's in the 19 custom civ's mod - I think that's what it's called? Actually, in the same mod there's Sitting Bull of the Sioux and the Norse -Vikings so if you could get them from that mod it should save time. As far a Spain the DLC Colonization of the New World has Spain as Isabella but I think you already have that in your mod? And also adding the DLC Polynesian civ would be great!

Ddude97
Mar 18, 2011, 01:58 PM
The problem is that I don't have the DLC, Spain is currently Rome, Inca are the Iriqoius, Ottomans are the Vikings, and Byzantines are Greece. I'd prefer to have more legitimate looking civs, but its not necessary. I'm not sure adding civs would make it better, as I might remove teh new world civs and replace them with CSes to allow more colonization.

This was my all time favorite map on 4. My feelings are mixed on it being in 5 but I do appreciate your effort on this and am doing my best to enjoy it. My first game was as England and was doing quite well but the game reached a turn and would crash my game. Started another game, I believe as china and reached a turn where it would crash my game. I think I have both save files, or atleast one that I can probably upload if you are still working on this. Otherwise I'll enjoy trying to finish a game eventually or go back to 4 to play it but I'm not sure I can do that haha.

Ddude97
May 06, 2011, 03:39 PM
It might be due to the patch, if thats so I'll update it :). I would very much like the save files, they would help tremendously in pinpointing the problem.
Sorry for the rather shoddy unproffesional work, I'm not very good at this stuff and haven't had time to update since finals coming up, and i got somewhat tired of it
If you can't get the save files, i'd like the turn at which it crashes then :)

I realized I had been playing v8 or whatever was the latest to get while inside the game. Trying a game on version 9 but my barbarians are zombies lol... pretty funny I have to admit. I've conquered all of asia and I've just reached Baghdad as the Mongols. I think the difficulty must be really low for them because nobody has built up a reasonable army haha. I'll try to get high up in the turns to see what happens but otherwise it has been pretty fun so far. Do the Mongols start with the really upgraded units as a counter to the issue in 4 that the Chinese just pumped pikemen and owned your "horde"? I'll check out more of the details when I get back home, I am oblivious to pre game setups as I love randoming everything every game do I imagine it has the various difficulties like 4 had depending on who you choose....

Ddude97
May 12, 2011, 05:34 PM
Yes, that is pretty much what I did, I hate having an overpowered China, but the player as China can still easily hold off the Mongols. The difficulties of each civ should be different, though I haven't completely balanced this. Taking over much of the eastern world to me is fun while playing the mongols. Not to mention they did it :) If you think they are to OP let me know, I can have them changed for next patch.
Edit: Alright guys, I'm an EPIC FAILURE! I had the updatedatabase command which adds the other content command spelled as updatedatbse, that would explain why it no work - update = soon

playing it post patch, see if i can find anything fun. So far it seems to be okay other then as China starting at -14 or 20 (can't remember exactly) happiness, but enough of your people starve off to ensure you don't have rebels everywhere... there is no stone obviously but if you have marble you can build the stone cutter building so that is cool. Good times i'll let you know how it goes if you care :P Game seems to be running faster then pre patch for me if that makes any sense, maybe I can't see enough of the other civs yet to slow it down haha....

Ddude97
Jun 30, 2011, 10:10 AM
I haven't fixed it for post patch, so the happiness drop makes sense. I've heard about the game running faster than pre patch as well but haven't had a chance to try it out for myself. Any feed back is always welcome :)

I find it tough to play in Europe as I remember in 4 having the ability to push your borders out and eliminate the others that way. As that isn't possible in this game, I've found it much more fun as the others around the world. I want to play as everyone before I start judging any choices you've made, too. China is a blast, especially when Siam and Korea declared war on me at the same time and boats and troops were swarming me from all sides as I tried to hold my coastal cities. And the initial happiness penalty is a nice thing to have to overcome so I had no issues with it. I've almost finished that one, have any one of the civs you'd like a run through documented? I may try germany has he was eliminated really early by Russia and Justinian in this game... Arabia eliminated France too... which was amazing, to think of the camel archers marching the streets of Paris hahaha!

Glad you're enjoying it :) I especially like China as well. None of the civs have been documented, though not quite sure what you mean by this. Arabia took France? Probably Cordoba wasn't taken, and there was no Charles Martel! I'm thinking of strengthening the European powers a little, though no Germany so much, that's the first time I've heard/seen them get taken over when it wasn't by me ;) I do plan on updating it though, adding the stone resource around the world. Unfortunately, it seems the latest patch introduced a bug that makes it impossible to choose any player but the first (China), so that game as Germany will have to wait :(

oh i was just wondering if I could serve as a test subject for any civ if you needed a beta test as it were with the new patch, but I guess if I can't pick anyone other then china it will have to wait :P I thought it was a bit odd about France and Germany as well. yeah nobody took Cordoba, I tried as Spain but I was unable pre patch to take it from him with what I had. So I'll try another game as china, maybe try to warmonger across to Europe....

Yeah that'd be great when they fix the bug that was introduced, you said you were unable to take Cordoba? I'll have to weaken it then... And let me know how your game goes! :)

Hello Ddude97,
First of all, thanks for your work in this scenario. Very good and enjoyable to play!
I played a couple of games, as the Spanish and the English.
Arabia in both of them was a super power all game (maybe should be a bit less powerful?)
My main suggestions is to increase the naval movement of sea units (maybe after discovering Astronomy?) to encourage colonies in Africa and Americas.
Anyway, very good job! Thanks!

I'll take a look at doing that, thanks for the input! :)

I have downloaded this mod, version 10. But when I choose the map in setup game and press load scenario. I got no leaders to choose etc. and if I start the scenario I "lose" the game and I'm back at main menu.
Anyone got a clue what I'm doing wrong?

Currently there are few atolls on the map, as I haven't done enough playing to determine where they would be most useful (Carribean + Polynesia?)

AFAIK the Caribbean doesnīt have any atolls, theyīre all in the Pacific. ;)

OK, I tried the latest version, but on turn 1 I canīt seem to build anything... :( (The Choose Build option doesnīt work...) Is there an incompatibility with certain other mods maybe?

EDIT: Turned off all mods and now itīs working. ;)

I'm not sure if it was posted before, but anyways, i've been getting a bug in your (maginific *-*) scenario.
Well, I tried with 4 civilisations, 2 europeans and 2 from the rest of the world, and i just can't get through turn 5.
Everytime i'm about to go to turn 6, Windows informs that the game had to be closed 'cause it stopped working.
I've got G&K expansion, can anyone inform how to overcome this problem? :D

Well first off, this scenario/mod is out of date as I stopped working on it about a year ago. Second, this was made in vanilla without DLC so that probably isn't helping. Also, if I remember correctly, the last release was buggy and due my lack of knowledge/skill, I've since lost stable previous versions. Honestly, I'm surprised you were able to load at all.
I am willing to help you in any way I can, but I'm sorry to say that the help I can give is very much limited.
