View Full Version : The Death of a Prince
Shaitan Jan 09, 2003, 06:33 AM As you may have noted in the storyline going on in the Religions of Fanatika thread, my character was lost at sea and is presumed dead. The reason for this untimely demise is an immense increase in my own workload. At my day job we are approaching crunch time for our next software release. This means I'll be getting new features to test and will not have the opportunity to check the forums very often during the day. I'll also be spending most of the work day on secure PC's that do not have internet access in any case. My personal business is also going through its first startup stage and just about every minute of my spare time outside of work will be dedicated to that.
Rudy (the Castellan of The Marillion) has posession of Prince Shaitan's last will and testament and he will execute it when he verifies the prince's death. When that happens, I will no longer be working at any of the various businesses I run, except the Bank of Valhalla. I will continue maintaining the BOV but this will be on a weekly basis instead of per chat. I believe I'll have enough time to continue there but if necessary, I'll need to drop that position as well. Placing new CEO's in the other companies will be the responsibility of the shareholders/partners/owners of those businesses.
I also tender my resignation as Price Manager. I will be leaving this position in 7 days or whenever a new Price Manager is elected, whichever comes first.
When I do have free time, I'll do some role playing through various NPC's. I won't be able to get really involved again for quite some time. When that happens I'll develop a new main character.
Stuck_as_a_Mac Jan 09, 2003, 06:59 AM So has Vanir fallen? Is the land going to be divvied up among your knights and princes?
Also- please point me to the Price Manger election
Shaitan Jan 09, 2003, 07:14 AM All will be known when the Will is read.
Anybody interested in any of the positions I am leaving should see this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=41195).
Padma Jan 09, 2003, 09:34 AM Aauugghh!
Losing the one person who has done more to keep this game running smoothly than any other. But I understand what you are saying, as several times in the last few months I have come close to dropping out myself, between workload and personal time issues. In my case, things may be easing a little, and I expect to be able to stay.
You will be missed, my Prince. :(
Shaitan Jan 09, 2003, 09:48 AM Thanks, Padma. I'll still be keeping a toe in and I'm going to try to stay on at the BOV to keep the economy smooth.
Grandmaster Jan 09, 2003, 02:55 PM Damn..... an empire crumbles........
Hope to see you on the forums every once in a while, Shaitan. Things will certainly be duller without you here....

jdd2007 Jan 09, 2003, 03:30 PM that really sucks. this is a great tragedy. your presence will be greatly missed.
McNulty Jan 09, 2003, 03:56 PM Prince Shaitan. Your loss will be a great blow to Fanatika. And personally, I will miss your input to the Religions Thread.
Donovan Zoi Jan 09, 2003, 04:27 PM Too much has happened on this day for this Fanatikan to take. First, some of our cities fall to the treacherous Indians, and now this.
Shaitan, you were a mentor to me from the start, and you will be missed. My only hope is that we RPGers can keep it together during your absence.
In any case, good luck in your RL endeavors and keep in touch.
Stuck_as_a_Mac Jan 09, 2003, 05:03 PM Tis a sad day when one of Fanatika's Princes dies. You will be missed, Prince Shaitan.
Octavian X Jan 09, 2003, 06:12 PM And here I was, atttempting to verify that you weren't dead.
Ah well. Farewell in the new (RL) world, Prince Shaitan.
gonzo_for_civ Jan 09, 2003, 10:22 PM Guess there have been better times to say this:
I'm leaving for the most part as well. Periodic check-ins and that's it. I'll be finding replacements for my jobs.
@Shaitan, it's sad to see you go, but I understand.....RL is always busy.
Of course by RL work you are talking about Rhineland though.....
Shabbaman Jan 10, 2003, 07:21 AM Prince Shaitan, presumably dead? What a disaster!
And Sir Gonzo the married merry man on a pilgrimage as well, I take it:D
Goonie Jan 12, 2003, 08:06 AM Shaitan you were always there to debate an issue! You were a great leader, a great organizer and I have all the respect for you in the world. I hope you can still come back to us from time to time.
Your FRIEND,
Goonie
PS What do you do?
Shaitan Jan 12, 2003, 08:11 AM Thanks for all of the support, I greatly appreciate it. :)
I'm still going to stay involved in the demogame as mod and player but the bulk of my time was in the RPG and I unfortunately need to put that elsewhere. I'll pop in now and then but can't give it the dedication that I previously did. I'll use NPC's when I have a chance to contribute.
@Goonie - I'm a software Quality Assurance Analyst. Our product is approaching the end of a release cycle. This puts most of my work day on "clean" computers to test new features so I don't have internet access. My free time at home is being taken by the startup of my new business. It's time critical as the startup must be completed well before the next national elections.
Zarn Jan 12, 2003, 08:16 AM I tend to overwhelm myself as well. Sometimes I have to push some weights off. I understand, and you did a great job with the Demogame.
Goonie Jan 12, 2003, 08:36 AM Shaitan if you have time can you PM me about your buisness and explain it. And what game or product are you testing?

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads3/Irish_Wake.jpg With the passing of our beloved friend and great leader, Shaitan, lost at sea in the ice cold waters, we find ourselves lost and wandering in a time of mourning.....
*An Irish jig on a fiddle starts to play*
;) That's why the Palette is throwin' a Wake for Shaitan. With all due respect to the deceased, Rudy (the Castellan of The Marillion)
has declared Shaitan's passing. In the tradition of Vanir, the deceased will be represented at the Wake by an Urn holding an item dear to him. Rudy will also be reading of the last will and testament of Shaitan. There will be plenty of food and drink, free for all who attend the Wake. I am personally bringing in a case of Irish Whiskey (imported from the Brits).
So be sure to come by the Palette on Friday, January 17, and pay your respects in a manner that he would have wanted you to. Come to the Wake and help us celebrate his departure on a new journey.
naervod Jan 14, 2003, 06:09 PM I for one will be at the Wake. I could not miss a memorial service for my mentor and benefactor. I will bring some kegs of barley beer from Egypt that I acquired on my travels there. I pray that Shaitan is safe on his next journey, wherever it may take him.
Cyc Jan 15, 2003, 01:11 AM Thank you Naervod. I'll see you there. The beer will be a welcome sight. Bring your friends and we'll raise a glass to Shaitan...
Octavian X Jan 15, 2003, 01:18 AM As you well know, I never miss a chance for anything free at the Palette. :D
On this day, a holiday has been declared, and all of Doughnutia, from the peasents near Bremershaven, to the citizens of Leningrado, will celebrate the life of this great man. I will be in attendence also, to honor the life of my dear friend, the Magnificient Prince Shaitan.
Donovan Zoi Jan 15, 2003, 02:31 AM The Prince of Klein Vanir shall also attend. Now that the North Province situation with India is contained, I have found myself able to take temporary leave of my post near Androbius to honor this great man. As with naervod, Lord Shaitan had been my mentor and, for reasons unbeknownst to me, shall be my benefactor. There are still times when I deem myself unworthy of such a priviledge.
On Friday morn, I shall lead a cavalcade from the Presidio Castle in Tlaxcala all the way to the Palette. Hundreds have been informed and I expect even more to join us on the way. Sir Cyc, even with the knowledge that most will not have the opportunity to pass through your doors, my people are still willing to travel for miles to celebrate the life and mourn the passing of such a legendary Fanatikan.
I'll see you then on Friday. And thank you for hosting this wonderful tribute for my prince. It's good to see that Manitou and Vanir were able to maintain good relations for all this time.
disorganizer Jan 15, 2003, 02:43 AM I would also like to show my respect to sir shaitans remains...
But as you surely know the situation i am in, i have to ask some detailed questions:
Does the wake take place in a sunlight protected room? Or is it possible for me to stay in the shadow?
BCLG100 Jan 15, 2003, 11:25 AM OH C%£
why did school have to start i have been so busy havnt had time to come back to cfc im very sorry to see you go shaitan but could you PM me the details of the PM i send to people when theyve been gone to long?
Padma Jan 15, 2003, 11:34 AM The Prince of Lancre, Knight of the Bridge, shall assuredly be in attendance. Prince Shaitan was a special friend, and provided assistance to me on more than one occasion. The entire District of Lancre has donned mourning clothes, and it is hoped that all the nobles therein will be in attendance.
jdd2007 Jan 15, 2003, 02:17 PM i will certainly be in attendance, for shaitan was more than the just my lord.
Grandmaster Jan 15, 2003, 02:34 PM I, as representative of Aegir and as a friend of good Prince Shaitan, shall be in attendance. It was Shaitan who mentored me into my current position, who allowed me to become a Prince, and to do nearly everything else I have accomplished. All servants and peasants of Aegir have been ordered to wear nothing but black for 1 month.
Cyc Jan 15, 2003, 03:51 PM Thank you all for responding. It will be an honor to have all of you in the Palette for this event. While you are there, please post a toast to Lord Shaitan. Eat, drink, and kick up a heel or two.
I will now post the event in the Bavaria Castle thread.
