View Full Version : Upgrade chart and promotion chart
SecondaryOak Mar 04, 2011, 03:08 AM This is a shameless self-plug; I've made a couple of diagrams I consider very useful, and I wanted to share them with this community, since I could have used them when I started playing.
The first diagram shows a summary of what unit upgrades to what unit, and includes all the UUs (http://gaming.stackexchange.com/q/8083/122).
There's also a GaK version available (http://gaming.stackexchange.com/a/74301/122), which also takes into consideration special upgrade paths (e.g. Dromon).
The second diagram shows a summary of what are the requirements for the various promotions (http://gaming.stackexchange.com/q/15846/122). Again, I will attempt to keep it updated with future patches.
A version of the promotion chart for 1.0.1.511 can be found here (http://www.civfanatics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=3589).
Mr Jack Mar 04, 2011, 03:24 AM Great stuff. Thank you :)
Camikaze Mar 04, 2011, 06:30 AM Welcome to the forums. :wavey:
And thanks for the charts. They provide much more coherent information than the civilopedia. :goodjob:
ImperialGuard Mar 04, 2011, 07:01 AM Those are some excellent diagrams, thankyou for sharing !!!
Welcome to the forums :goodjob:
The_J Mar 04, 2011, 04:13 PM Moved to tutorials + references.
Because it's a reference, and it's indeed a nice one, great charts, thank you :).

Sorry, my bad. I thought this forum was for references and tutorials for mod development only, didn't realize it was for gameplay references as well.
Arimae70 Apr 20, 2011, 03:00 AM Thanks for this :)
Samuil Apr 21, 2011, 03:31 PM Thanks, I have almost 200 hours of game play and I still had no clear picture of what leads to what promotion wise :goodjob:
Clammo Apr 27, 2011, 04:15 AM Excellent job there OP. Was looking at the Civilopedia for this kind of info the other day and getting frustrated by it's inadequacies.
wobuffet Aug 09, 2011, 06:01 AM Cavalry doesn't upgrade into Tank anymore? That makes me care even less about mounted units than I already did.
zyx Aug 19, 2011, 07:05 AM This is a shameless self-plug; I've made a couple of diagrams I consider very useful, and I wanted to share them with this community, since I could have used them when I started playing.
The first diagram shows a summary of what unit upgrades to what unit, and includes all the UUs (http://gaming.stackexchange.com/q/8083/122). I will attempt to always keep that post up-to-date with new patches and DLCs.
The second diagram shows a summary of what are the requirements for the various promotions (http://gaming.stackexchange.com/q/15846/122). Again, I will attempt to keep it updated with future patches.
Thanks for your great chart! There is a Civ5 War Academy written, and I am doing the part about promotions and would like to use your nice picture. There are some mistakes though regarding scouting and survivalism: scouting II gives 1 extra move and survivalism II gives +50% defense bonus and survivalism gives +50% defense bonus and heals the unit every turn despite the fact the unit moves or not.
SecondaryOak Sep 04, 2011, 11:35 AM Thanks for the heads-up, zyx! Chart fixed. It's a bit less pretty now with all the information I had to cram in the scout's promotions, but more accurate :)
zyx Sep 06, 2011, 04:06 AM The chart might not win a beauty contest if you were in the jury, but I still think it is great.
evahaut Sep 16, 2011, 01:44 AM Thank you for the flow charts! They look great when printed on A3.
Maybe you can include H'wacha as Korea's replacement for Trebuchet?
The_J Mar 18, 2012, 04:40 PM I've updated the promotions chart now for 1.0.1.511 (click (http://www.civfanatics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=3589); yes, I know, a bit late), but seeing that the OP had recently been online, I think I just should have asked for an update instead of doing it myself ^^.

SecondaryOak Jun 13, 2012, 11:35 AM Evahaut: I just didn't bother with the H'wacha because it's just one unit and it's covered by the notes in the bottom. I'll update it when Gods and Kings comes out, and will include Korea's UU.
The_J: what did I miss? I'll update it if there's any mistake, but I can't find it...

I already updated it myself :).
No big things, just some numbers changed, not much.
I guess from your comment we can assume that you'll do the charts again for G&K, right :)? Would be really great .
binhthuy71 Jun 17, 2012, 03:54 PM @SecondaryOak:
Thank you!
@whoward69:
Thank you too!
The_J Jun 20, 2012, 07:04 AM Can we expect an update for G&K :)?
Would really be nice to have. The first users already asked for an overview :).
SecondaryOak Jun 26, 2012, 03:09 PM So I made a upgrade chart for Gods and Kings (+all DLCs), at
http://gaming.stackexchange.com/a/74301/122
Currently not as pretty as the old chart, maybe I'll get to that soon :)
The_J Jun 26, 2012, 03:11 PM Oh, for an overview it's pretty okay :).
(not that I'd not like to have it prettier, but it serves it's purpose :))

The fact that it gives me the information I need makes it downright beautiful.
Thanks for taking the time to enlighten the rest of us! :goodjob:
whoward69 Jun 27, 2012, 04:46 PM The ingame versions of these are now compatible with Gods and Kings
