I've started a new little pet project. In my spare time I'll be making the map of Krynn from the Dragonlance adventures. I already have the landforms that I painstakingly made in Civ2 transfered to civ3 format. Now I am busy putting in rivers and soon resources and cities and such. Any interest in this project?

Great! An Ansalon map. I made my own version of Krynn as well, as I am also a huge Dragonlance fan. Maybe I could compare notes with you sometime.

Just a few things I see from your preview (note: these are just my thoughts):
1.) Don’t forget about the Northern Wastes. That is actually a desert.

2.) The mountains need to be thicker to the South of Thorbardin, and less dense to the West. I can’t see from your preview, but also make sure Pax Tharkas, New Ports, and Haven are situated correctly (or could be situated correctly if it was a scenario). The Mountain stretch should be thinner near the top and extend more to the north.

3.) Solamnia has the most fertile soil of any other nation on Ansalon. You have it as a plains, I think you should make that grassland, and place a few extra bonus grassland in there as well. The areas around Vingaard River should all be plains as well.

4.) The island of Saifun (Westmost of the Minotaur Isles) shouldn’t be so stretched.

5.) You missed Dimeresti in the East. It’s the home of the sea elves. Anyone wanting to make a scenario might find that helpful.

That is my two cents. A nice Ansalon map would be great. I hope you finish this. Also, how are you doing swamplands? Civ III doesn’t have a swamp terrain, and if you read any fantasy book you see that swamps have a great deal of importance. Especially the Estwilde on Krynn, just wondering what you plan to do so I could possibly do the same on mine.;)

I made the map for Civ2 years and years ago. I copied as much as could from the maps provided from the Chronicles. I also had an Atlas of Dragonlance that I used for it, but I let a friend borrow it and never saw it again. I never heard of the Sea Elves Island. I'm am EXTREMELY busy with University right now, and being in a military college is always hectic. I can send you the file if you'd like to see it.????

I hear you with Uni. I am interested in seeing it whenever you have time. My map doesn't work because i tried to place too many cities on it and now I can't figure out how to correct the problem. I am also busy with Uni so I wouldn't have a whole lot of time. But I have always wanted an Ansalon map...

Ok, Iv'e started up the project again. I havent put any resources in, but I've placed empty cities everywhere except Solamnia and the Neraka area.

I havent put in any roads and the map is so huge that I didnt even bother putting in resources in any orderly manner.

Well you will have to wait longer. Because in one of my biggest bonehead manuevers, I accidentally erased half my cities. I was just deleting some extra civs that I wasn't using to make it easier to choose UU's, and I lost have my friggin cities!!!

Is there any chance we could get a version without anything on it, just terrain and resources?

Just download the map and import the map and resources into another empty map

I missed the completion of this map! I really like Krynn and the DragonLance books. I don't know if you are still interested in working on this map, but i can think of a some possible corrections to make this more exact towards the books.

here are a few -

Budapest should probably be renamed Gateway

According to the descriptions in the books, Silvanesti is actually a jungle. During the war of the Lance, the forests were described as having ferns among them. Then the Dream destroyed the trees, afterwhich they are described as bleeding and after restoration thicker and lower. Also, the Qualinesti left Silvanesti for several reasons, one being the forest was to crowded (i.e. can't see the Sun) and they preferred the open air. Depending on the age your playing in, the wasting sickness of the fifth age can also be used as the disease function of the jungle.

Sanction has no flat area near it. In fact it has three very active volcanoes called The Lords of Doom right on its doorstep. In the fifth age, the Lord of Doom nearly destroyed the city of Sanction. Before that, the gods used powerful magic to stop the flow of lava from reaching the city. The city should be only a port city and a barracks town. No trees can live in the suphoric air of the region.

Nareka was literally abandoned after the first War of the Lance because it has no open area, its just a temple to Queen Takhisis and a few industrial armories. There shouldn't be any open area near there.

The Westmost of the Minotaur isles is very civilized, and should have all roads connected with roads (actually, the equivelant of railroads, as they were canals). I believe they are referred to as Sea Lanes in the book, but I might be mistaking this for another island.

Godshome isn't a city, and the mountain ranges in Abanasinia need reworking. There are actually three mountain ranges there, Tantalion is the north side of the eastmost range, the second is in between Haven and Solace, and the third is about 10 miles to the West of Solace and extends a ways into the west seperating the forest of Qualinost from the north. Also, Pax Tharkas should be at the northern side of the Khalkist mountains, not the east. The area where you have it now is Hill Dwarf territory, whereas the Gate of Pax Tharkas lies on the edge of Qualinesti as a sign of peace between elves and dwarves in the elder days of Kith Kanan.

I don't remember putting in Budapest, must have skipped my perusal. some of the others, like Godshome, if I didnt add them then the Dragon Army would not have many cities to use at all.
I am not currently doing any work on this map.
