An officer enters and whispers on the ear of General Compact. The General then addresses Senator Felix: "Sir, a large Dominion airfleet will be withing our airspace within fifteen minutes. Recon satellites data indicate the presence of about 100 fighters and 60 bombers. The fighters are obsolete Soviet models. We have no intelligence on the bombers".

Senator Felix: "Your suggestions, General?"

General Compact: "Two squadrons of our F-15e fighters are already in the air. But that's only 20 planes. Even though they completely outclass the Evil planes they are too few to be successful. We can send more planes to the air, sir, but it will take some time."

Senator Felix: "No, cancel that. Have all our fighters land immediately in the underground hangars. Activate the Spectral Radius Defence Perimeter System instead."

General Shifter [puzzled]: "But, sir, what about the bombers?"

Senator Felix: "What's left (if anything) from the Evil bombers after their encounter with the Spectral Radius system will be easily wiped out by our F-15e's. Simple corollary, gentlemen."

[General laughter of relief in the room]

Senator Felix [to Senator Schultz]: "Rafi, do you agree?"

Senator Schultz: "Yes, that's the best option we have."

Senator Felix: "Alright then. Put the Spectral Radius online, General."

Ten minutes later: The Evil Dominion airfleet is entering Matrix Theory Airspace at about 1.5 mach speed.

Suddenly thick laser beams pass through almost all airplanes. Most of them are divided into two or three parts and crash in flames to the ground. The few that remain are shot down by Matrix Theory 15e-s that scramble from their underground hangars.

On the ground, military medics and special ops units rush to capture the Dominion pilots.

The day is won for Matrix Theory.

MATRIX THEORY AND STEVSKI FORCES COUNTER-ATTACK ON EVIL DOMINION - AUDACIOUS STRATEGIC OPERATION SUCCEEDS BEYOND EXPECTATION

Archibald Douglas, Jane's correspondent to the CFC Region

During this night the Matrix Theory expeditionary corps to the Free Land of QED crossed the border into the area of the Republic of Stevski that had been occupied by the Dominion of Incredible Evil.

The Expeditionary Corps, comprised of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Division, the 9th Armour Brigade, the 4th Fighter Squadron and Guards units joined the re-rallied 2nd Mechanized Infantry Division in an audacious attack on the Dominion forces.

The Dominion, in its push toward the Stevski capital, had extended its supply lines to some 75km that could only be very thinly protected. Thus, Matrix Theory forces were able to capture most of the Dominion's vital supplies and the Dominion's quartermaster-general himself.

The most important consequence of this was that the Dominion tanks could not be re-fueled and became virtually immobilized. Then the second phase of the operation commenced. Two Stevski infantry divisions with artillery support attacked the Dominion's bogged-down armour that had ran too far from its supporting infantry.

The Dominion troops fought well but the lack of air support proved decisive in their defeat when air strikes by the Matrix Theory 4th Fighter Squadron were called in. Of the 300 Dominion tanks about 100 were destroyed and the rest were captured by Stevski forces.

Part of the Dominion infantry was able to retreat across the border, sustaining heavy losses owing to constant attacks by the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Division. Some 20,000 of Dominion troops are reported to be surrounded in the marshlands near the village of Astra. Air strikes are expected against this pocket of resistance as soon as the fog over Astra clears.

On the whole, this operation is an excellent example of how dangerous it is to extend one's supply lines beyond one's ability to protect them.

Hah, yeah okay, That is why I have been preparing for war for the last five years. The invasion of Alecrast will go fine.

You're a nation 8 million invading a nation with twice your population, which is allied with a great many other nations in the region. You may do some damage, but I think your chances of conquering the place are effectively nil - and that isn't what you were after anyway, is it? The esteemed representative of Sheep Springs was disseminating Sheepstan propaganda, and I felt compelled to correct him. If such corrections are not welcome here, I shall shut up.

The Sheep Springs Republic has a ally in the Apolyton Region called Sheepsta. In Redscape a thrid ally, a UN Delgate is Sheepmania. If Sheepsta falls to the forces of evil in Apolyton, The enitre region of Redscape will invade along with any CFC allies of Sheep Springs.

Tallyweed wants everyone to know that it will gladly sit back and watch all of you guys commit genocide against eachother.

As the UN delegate and leader of Dellland and Mayene I hope everything can be resolved peacefully.

Igloria has learned it's lesson from the Outer Heaven War. It will be a peaceful nation from now on. Therefore, we will not get involved in the CivFanatic War.

Backstory for those who missed the old info:

The Empire of Atrebla is run by an Imperial family, who allow extensive civil rights and freedome to vote for the government. The government runs the country, however the Imperial family is capable of striking down any law, as well as dissolving the government and passing its own laws at any time. Luckily in the 35 generations of the Imperial family, The government has not been dissolved since the days of Corpulus 200 years ago.

However 2 months ago the Empire of ATrebla's government collapsed after a union strike boiled over into a full revolution as leftist and right wing extremists overran the nation. The government, within the confines of the Palace City (giant, walled, self sufficent city only those of noble birth or government role are allowed to enter) has been embroiled in a civil war for the past 2 weeks or so. Having gained back about 1/6 of the country, the Emperor has consolodated all power into him, the Consul, and the heir apparent (the Emperor being 89 years old). In the latest developments, terrorists have struck the port city of Marganets in a terrorist attack on government building using a truck bomb.

BTW: anyone notice how snappy the nationstates website has been today? Not a singe error message and 5-10 seconds to load a page.

We are now passing to a press-conference by the Foreign Minister and Acting Commander-in-Chief, Senator Felix..."

[Switch image to an official press-room in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The Senator, with aides and officers stands on a podium and answers questions from the assembled reporters]

Q: "There have been reports that the Dominion forces have re-gained the territory liberated in the recent counter-offensive by our and Stevski troops. Can you confirm or deny them?"

A: "Dominion forces have indeed been able to re-capture a narrow strip of land, after having treated it liberally with napalm. Our forces have retreated, evacuating all civilian population with them and suffering no casualties."

Q: "Is a counter-attack expected anytime soon?"

A: "I can't discuss operational details but our determination to win this war is as great as ever - you can count on that."

Q: "Are discrete sets currently deployed?"

A: "Yes, about 150 discrete sets provided by our ally, the Grand Duchy of Topology have been deployed on the front line. They present a virtually impassable obstacle to Dominion troops, allowing our forces to re-group and prepare the counter-offensive. A: "I'm surprised you call this ridiculous offer "cease-fire" at all. Surely, when your air force is almost wiped out, your land army is badly beaten, your ports are blockaded and your enemies are mustering forces for the final assault you do not suggest to leave them alne if they turn over two cities to you! The Dominion will have to accept a cease-fire on our terms and the later they realize that, the worse for them."

Q: "Has the Cabinet considered the nuclear threat posed by the Dominion?"

A" "We are not sure that the Dominion possesses any nuclear weapons to begin with. But even if they do, Matrix Theory is adequately protected from this (or almost any) kind of threat by our Spectral Radius Perimeter Defence System. The Dominion has already seen in it action, I think."

Q: "But what if the Dominion nukes our allies?"

A: "I wouldn't suggest to the Dominion leaders even to contemplate such a course of action. Really, that would be a more-than-fatal mistake."

Q: "What new measures will the Cabinet implement upon receiving the War Powers?"

A: "At the moment we are calling up 60,000 men of the Reserves. No other new measures are necessary at the moment. In particular, civil liberties and political freedoms here will not be affected by the war."

Today at 10:15 GMT combined forces of the Republic of Matrix Theory, the Grand Duchy of Siederia and the Republic of Stevski have crossed the border into the Dominion of Incredible Evil. The force, designated Allied Army Group I, consists of about 150,000 infantry and 1,200 tanks with ample artillery and air-support.

The vanguard, composed of about 300 discrete sets, has made lightning attacks on numerous enemy positions, completely destroying them. Only the basic capabilites of discrete sets have been used.

Allied forces have advanced about 50 km so far, establishing well-protected lines of supply and communication.

The aerial task force attached to the Jonasium fleet has flown about 420 interdiction missions, paralyzing the Dominion attempts to send reinforcements to the frontline.

As of now, the airspace over the eastern and north-eastern parts of the Dominion is under complete Allied control.

Perhaps most importantly, the establishment of an operational base well within Dominion territory has enabled Matrix Theory military specialists to deploy the new Numerical Radius Mobile Protection system, which is capable of intercepting all missiles launched from Dominion territory.

Thus, all Allies are now well protected from the nuclear threat which is considered to be the Dominion's last resort.

Allied forces are now poised towards capturing the Dominion capital, Viciousgrad in a day or two, as reinforcements keep flowing in, especially from Matrix Theory.

"Colonel, we have detected ten missiles launched from three different sites in the west of the Dominion. We've got full data on them in our computers."

Colonel Arkady Dimman sprang to his feet. Some gut feeling had told him that when hell broke lose he would be the officer on duty at the Numerical Radius Mobile Protection System bunker that had been established just a day ago in Dominion territory. Well, there was no time to lose. Within five minutes the missiles would be past the point of no return. They must be destoryed in the next five minutes. Colonel Dimman started giving out the orders to his men in a crisp voice.

"Lieutenant Gohberg, display the missile matrices on screen. Transform them to Jordan form. "

"They are just simply Jordan blocks, colonel!", exclaimed jubilantly one of the junior officers in the room.

The colonel let an inward smile, his intuition was well-known in the Matrix Theory Technical Warfare Corps. But he said nothing.

"Display the condition numbers."

An array of ten numbers appeared on the large screen. All were between 9*10^-12 and 1.

"Set the Jordan coordinates. Fire at will!" commanded the colonel.

Within twenty seconds the four laser projectors installed in the shafts attached to the bunker fired 100 thick beams. Seventy-two of them hit all Dominion missiles and eliminated them.

Captain Bobby Schmidt had to dial Senator Felix's home number three times before the Senator finally answered.

Ten minutes later Senator Felix, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vice-Chief Determinant and Acting Commander-in-Chief sat near his aide in the car, as the armoured cavalcade was driving to one of the secret miltary bunkers outside the capital.
The Senator was immaculately dressed but the bags under his eyes disclosed that he hadn't slept more than fifteen hours during the last week.

-"So, Bobby, what's going on?"

-"A lot of things happened during the last five hours. First, the Dominion launched nuclear missiles against us and Stevski but they were intercepted and destroyed by the Numerical Radius system. Unfortunately, this was just a trick by the Dominion to obtain the coordinates of the Numerical Radius bunker location. Apparently the scrambler systems didn't work, because Technical Corps had had no time to test them before deploying the Numerical Radius".

-"But wasn't the bunker protected?!"

-"Not well enough. The Dominion scraped from somewhere some bombers and flew them in to destroy the Numerical Radius bunker. By the time Siederian fighters were called to the air the Numerical Radius system was gone. Of course the Dominion bombers didn't get away but that's little relief."

-"Bastards!" exclaimed Felix.

-"There's more. Apparently the commander of Allied Army Group I, General-Adjoint Dullphins was visiting the bunker at the moment and perished. His second-in-command, General Stephen Pont from the Stevski Army, assumed command and ordered an all-out assault on the Dominion. The Dominion capital has already been taken…”

“-And then the Dominion nuked their own capital, right”? broke in the senator.

“-How did you know that”?

“-Just a hunch. Proceed, Bobby”.

“-Well, there isn’t much more to tell. Fortunately, our troops have received special protective garments beforehand and so we took relatively few casualties. But the whole situation is escalating quickly out of control.”

At this moment the cavalcade arrived at Command Centre 17.

Minister of FA: "Not to my knowledge. As far as we can tell, his forces surrendered without authorization from him. His generals took it upon themselves to end the war when it became clear that their cause was hopeless."

Chairman JCS: "For all we know, he could be locked in an underground bunker somewhere, fantasizing that the war is still going on."

Reporter 3: "What was the motiviation to get involved in this conflict in the first place? Our stated policy was non-involvement."

Minister of FA: "As long as the conflict remained a conventional one, that policy was valid. Once The Dominion decided that nukes were a good idea, there was no profit to be had by inaction."

Reporter 4: "Now that we own the rights and properties of The Dominion as a result of a hostile takeover, how can you justify leaving the occupation of Dominion territory in the hands of others?"

Chairman JCS: "We consider it an investment in the future. We have no intention of holding on to the properties obtained, as their intrinsic value is quite limited. The goodwill to be had by hastening the end of this conflict promises greater profits in the future."

After accepting the surrender of the Top Generals. The headcount of surrendered armies seemed extremely low only a few thousand have surrendered not the expected millions. Travel on the borders have become immposible due to extreme radiation, as the death toll mounts a nuclear winter comes in. Agriculture is dying and malnutrition mounts. If nuclear wheapons are contiued to be fired the death toll may be too great. LEAVE NOW AND WE WILL SUPPLY EBOLA VACCINES, ALL OF YOUR TECHNOLOGY HAS BEEN SEVERLY DAMAGED. I'd like to have an overview of alliances and pacts in the CFC Region if possible. All I know of is the Entente between my countries, and an alliance where o.a. Matrix Theory is part of.

Gah! This game gets seriously tiresome after awhile. I never get any new issues, in fact most of the time I get the same 5 issues over and over again. Frankly I don't think gun laws can get any tighter...

I think their are only 30 Issues that come up Dell. So you get the same ones over and over. The person who made it says that its fun for about a month but then gets repetitive.

I am still relatively enjoying it, it has taught me how authoritarian I really am underneath it all.

I think it would be more focal if you weren't allowed to dismiss an issue- I have taken that course in the times I really couldn't decide what to do (should kids be smoking pot on the job? should the Nazis be allowed to stage a rally?)

I've played the game for a lot longer than you have. There are only so many iterations of the same issues you can stand before it gets painfully boring.

Repeating issues and decreasing interest took us down from many to few nations tough. Most of our early nations are gone now. Civfanatica is new, so is the interest in the game. I wonder if the regions will melt one day.
