View Full Version : 1650: Colonial Empires-PTW version
luiz Jan 17, 2003, 05:09 AM This is the PTW version of my 1650 scenario. I added a new civ, Korea, and made some changes to the map. I also changed the power balance a bit, to make the scenario more realistic.
Constantinople is now called Istanbul, although the 2 names were interchangeble untill the turkish revolution.
I also placed the capital of the Ottoman Empire in Itsanbul, its correct location.
Here's the description of the original scenario:
"This scenario takes place in the year 1650. Spain, the greatest colonial power, lost the 30 Year War, lost control over Portugal and is begining to decay.
Portugal is trying to recover itself from the desastrous Iberian Union. The northeast of Portugals main colony, Brazil, is occupied by the Dutch.
The Republic of Venice is extremely decadent, and its ancient glory is now history.
The Habsburgs from Austria are now the virtual rulers of the Holy Roman Empire, although they were defeated in the 30 Year War.
The Ottomans now occupie Croatia and Egypt, but they are not as powerfull as the european powers.
France is now the owner of large areas in North and South America, and is becoming one of Europes main powers.
England, after the defeat of Spains "Invencivel Armada" now has the most powerfull navy in the world, and owns areas in North America and Asia."
This is how the world is divided:
England
France
Spain
Portugal
Habsburg Empire
Republic of Venice
Low Nations
Scandinavia
Poland
Russia
Ottoman Empire
Iran
India
China
Japan
Korea
African Nations
amadeus Jan 17, 2003, 09:59 AM I commend you on this most excellent scenario, luiz :goodjob:
I'm going to play it right now.
luiz Jan 17, 2003, 10:09 AM Thanks, rmsharpe
Yoda Power Jan 17, 2003, 10:18 AM Pretty good Luiz, reminds me of my old world 1700 scenario, thats just for plain civ3 though.
swan Mar 21, 2003, 04:11 PM The interesting solution to gather several small countries into one civilization.
Good scenario:goodjob: , but requires some modifications.
luiz Mar 23, 2003, 01:05 PM what modifications, swan? any suggestions are welcome.
swan Mar 28, 2003, 01:44 PM To modify necessary the arrangement of cities and resources.
For example Saint Petersburg is based to 50 years late.
Calcutta already belonged to one of the European countries.
The Molukka islands and Timor were famous by spices.
In the region of the Persian Gulf must be more than oil.
Ship building in Russia began after the conquest of fortress Azov in the Turks in 18 century.
In the Urals there are reserves of iron and gems.
For some reason in all those encountering to me scenarios is forgotten the coast of
Caspian Sea in Azerbaijan, and in the beginning of 20 centuries in
this region were obtained almost third of entire oil in the world.
In Alaska and in East Siberia the significant output of fur.
Japan was not the colony of Portugal.
Among the small nations of Africa there is no Mali
luiz Mar 29, 2003, 05:47 PM Thanks for the tips. I really should have made more changes to the map. But in my scenario Japan is not a portuguese colony.
slipknot Apr 04, 2003, 06:08 PM luiz, beautiful scenario; one of my favorites. The only question I have, any way to increase ship movment rates? It takes too long to move into India and Asia, areas seemingly begging to be conquered.
luiz Apr 05, 2003, 08:44 AM slipknot: thanks for the compliments! Using the editor you can increase ship mov rates. Ill think of making it official in the next version.
swan Apr 11, 2003, 03:02 PM I apologize, I began to play in your scenario, but because of insufficiency of time did not continue any play. When I examine the general plan, that Portugal and Japan have the alike colour of nation that enters me in error.
Apologize for my english.
luiz Apr 11, 2003, 04:08 PM swan, the colors of Portugal and Japan look like each other, but they are not the same. Its not supposed to cause an error.
Try changing the colors by using the editor.
Sarevok Apr 11, 2003, 11:18 PM have ytou played Europa universalis? because i recognize those fcts since they were written in the game.
luiz Apr 17, 2003, 02:40 PM Nope Sarevok, I never played that game.
JoseM Apr 18, 2003, 05:56 AM Good scenario :)
_Impreza_ Apr 18, 2003, 07:36 AM This scenario is the best scenario, very good
tunlaw23 May 13, 2003, 07:35 PM I am very interested in trying this scenario out, it sounds great-- but unfortunately, I have not been able to get it to load completely. PTW (v1.21) freezes after loading the HUD section of playing field. Is it heavy on machine resources, with the 15 or so sides? (I'm running 384MB RAM)
Perhaps I'm missing something. Is there a Mod I should be applying before starting?
Thanks for any help you might offer.
luiz May 14, 2003, 05:48 PM tunlaw23
there is no Mod you should be applying
It is really heavy on the system. Slow machines might have problems. It takes about 30 min to loads in my PC, maybe that is whats happening in your cases. The HUD loads, then it stay 30 min "frozen"and then it comes to life.

And when Peter the Great defeated the Swedes in 1721, thus gaining access to the ports of the Baltic (and building St. Petersburg). He has been conisdered the "Father of the Russian navy". Quite an honor. This, I believe, was before the conquest of Azov, which seems like something Catherine did (but I may be wrong here).
Grandmaster Feb 12, 2004, 07:15 PM Azov was captured by Ivan Grozny, I think... though I could be wrong. Might be that I'm thinking of Kazan. Either way, nice scenario. :)
sbporter Feb 13, 2004, 11:08 AM I'm pretty sure Peter first used ships against the turks, and then defeated the Sweds and built St. Petersburg, I remember seeing a tv show on this....
Simon ;)
Benderino Feb 13, 2004, 04:03 PM I don't think so, since all of his ports were in the Baltic, but perhaps you are right. I have not heard this though.
Egyptian Apr 23, 2004, 02:43 PM I downloaded this scenario but it wont let me play as any other nation except england, how can i play as a different civ!?!

Use the editor, select Player Properties and then change the human player for whoever you like.
If you have Conquests, you can make them all human players, what will save you some time.
cesar May 05, 2004, 12:22 PM I have a problem
When i load the conquest editor, i see the scenario.
But when i load the conquest/ civcontent/1650.bic, and i choose a civilzation, and configure everything, i load the scenario but the PC doesn´t load the scenario.

This scenario is 1650.bix, because it's a PTW file, but I don't think that's the problem.
Probably there's nothing wrong. In big scenarios such as this, the PC takes an ENORMOUS time to load, and sometimes it may seem like it isn't loading. My advice is that you forget that you're loading a scenario, go watch something on the TV, and then come back. Depending on your PC, it may take uo to 30 min to loads. :)
cesar May 06, 2004, 09:37 AM i got a pentium III 667 Mhz and 128 mb RAM. 30 minutes i think that is a lot of time. Can you tell me your PC propertys

My PC is a Pentium III 800 MHz with 512 MB Ram, and it takes around 15 mins to load this scenario.
cesar May 10, 2004, 02:39 PM You are right when you said me that i have to wait. 20 minutes left the scenario was loaded. But I have two questions:
the first: how can I change the year 4000bc for 1650?
How can I do to build sugar explotation (buliding) in that scenario?
I tried but the scenario doesn´t work

The year is already 1650 in my scenario
As for the "sugar exploitation" improvment, since it's not avaiable on PTW, you would have to manually create this building using the editor, and also you would have to have created an icon to represent it.
