This SP tree needs one minor change to go from "sigh, I gotta do Commerce now" to "get into Commerce as soon as you can".

The policy that reduces the cost of roads and railroads needs to also reduce the cost of Harbors. The whole tree seems focused on a naval empire, but when you have a naval empire this SP is actually 100% worthless. The two after it are meh, but it is totally useless to a naval empire.

Yeah, that makes sense, I guess. I would think it's like that perhaps to provide a balance in order to make it more viable for non-naval empires, but if it's making it unviable both in terms of that and in terms of naval empires, then a buff may be required.

Yeah, commerce kind of sucks. I wish even the gold boosting one in the capitol were better. When I unlock it if I have gold problems I click on it right away. But my thought is always "that was it?"

Perhaps if it was +25% gold to capital gold AND to trade route value.

i think it would be cool if the commerce branch of the social policies actually gave gold instead of random stuff. i often lack gold as i pointed out in another thread.

Moved to Ideas & Suggestions and merged.

And in your earlier version of that thread, you received a dozen or more tips for improving your civ's economy. Have you tried any of those suggestions in your games?

Commerce is excellent, just change your capital to a commerce focus and unlock it, you make great coin.

It seems to me you rarely need to unlock all of it. You'll only bother with the left side if you have a large fleet and a lot of coastal cities, otherwise why bother? However, you take the left if you have a large land empire with an extensive road network or to get the discount to buying stuff, which is admittedly really good in later game. The bonus happiness from luxuries is nice, but not really needed if I've maxed out Piety. Still, if I want to take Rationalism then the happiness is nice.

Roads and railroads are the only tile improvements that cost gold per turn. Check the Civopedia for the exact numbers.

Liberty, Tradition, both early policies got a decent buff, mid-late game SPs should be revamped accordingly.
