View Full Version : Character Stats - Registry and Rules
Shabbaman Jan 20, 2003, 06:00 AM This thread will be used to maintain the statistics for each character. The second post in this thread contains the current character scores. The rules are in the Combined Rules Thread.
Please feel to post here regarding rule discussions, changes to stats, questions on the entire process, etc. These first posts will be kept clean and up to date but the rest of the thread is open for public use.

Veera Anlai Jan 20, 2003, 09:20 AM Okay, time to distribute ^_^ This is my first time distributing points, so I'll fall under the rules of a new character
Powders - 2
Pistols - 5
Rifles - 5
Charges - 3
Husbandry - 2
Equestrian - 5
Weaponry - 1
Hunting - 1
Horsemanship - 2
Precision - 3
Speed - 5
Defense - 2
Unarmored - 5
Warfare - 2
Strategy - 2
Tactics - 2
Shabbaman Jan 20, 2003, 09:31 AM That's okay VA. I'll update it ASAP. Welcome to the real world!;)
Zarn, if you come here to post your stats: read the rules here! (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?postid=565646#post565646)
Plexus Jan 20, 2003, 02:12 PM Congrats Shabba!
Cyc Jan 20, 2003, 05:13 PM Welcome to the Administrative World, Shabbaman!
For my new points distribution, I would like you to duplicate what you posted in the old thread. I read one of your last posts where you indicated what you wanted and it seemed right, so that's what I want. Thank you.
jdd2007 Jan 20, 2003, 05:24 PM do i get new points to distribute?
Cyc Jan 21, 2003, 01:27 AM Shabbaman - As far as the question of my being in Strider's class even though I have more total points than he does, it's not a problem for me. I've stayed in the class merely to keep abreast of Strider's total points. I can hang in the clubhouse, drinking coffee and watching the philly's until Strider's points surpass me. Then I can automatically learn from him again. It's worth the extra gold for me to keep an eye on him.
Shabbaman Jan 21, 2003, 03:00 AM The RPG Managers have also approved the addition of the POWDERS skill with Rifle, Pistol and Charges subskills.
Each current character will receive 2 Main Skill points and 5 subskill points to distribute among their skills.
You can only apply one Main Skill point to any skill except POWDERS (which may have both points) and no more than 2 Subskill points to any subskill (except the new ones, where any number of points may be applied to any subskill).
New characters will now have 12 Main Skill Points and 35 Subskill points to apply to their stats.
Shabbaman Jan 21, 2003, 03:04 AM I've got these stat upgrades already:
Plexus
Melee: 15.5 (+1)
POWDERS: 2
Rifle: 3
Pistol: 1
Shabbaman
warfare+1 and powders+1
Subskills: one each to the new subskills, one each to strategy and tactics.
I'd like everybody to post their termly (I like that word Shaitan:D ) upgrades here again, please.
So Cyc, you want the same point distribution as me? That's okay. We could practice duelling together:D
EDIT: I'll make it powders+2 for myself, +1 rifle +1 pistol +2 powder +1 engineering btw! My termly upgrades: warfare and powders
Grandmaster Jan 21, 2003, 09:23 AM OK, I'd like to distribute my new points like this:
POWDERS: 2
Pistols: 2
Rifles: 2
Charges: 1
And in case I forgot to post my termly upgrade, or in case you can't find it, I'd like to upgrade my Melee by 1.
Veera Anlai Jan 21, 2003, 02:45 PM Termly upgrade? If I get one of those, increase my Pistols by 1
Shabbaman Jan 22, 2003, 03:21 AM Please everyone, read the rules (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?postid=565646#post565646):
"Each character may increase any 2 skills to the next full point level at the beginning of each term."
That is two.
Now, sir Grandmaster, do you want me to pick one at random, besides melee, should it be voided, or should I introduce a special skill for you: literacy;)
Plexus Jan 22, 2003, 03:36 AM I'll add one to Melee and one to husbandry. :) If it isn't too much trouble, that is.
jdd2007 Jan 22, 2003, 05:47 AM 1 to warfare
1 to powders
1 to speed
1 to charges
1 to rifle
1 to pistol
1 to melee
Shabbaman Jan 22, 2003, 05:57 AM Check.
We have to debate on the Powders competition rules btw. Does anyone have propositions?
Grandmaster Jan 22, 2003, 07:13 AM OK, add one to Rifle as well.
Shaitan Jan 22, 2003, 07:56 AM Cannon: POWDERS:Charges + WARFARE:Artillery
Rifle and pistol shooting would be straight POWDERS:Rifle and POWDERS:Pistol.
Hunting can now be tied to either WEAPONRY:Ranged or POWDERS:Rifle
Shabbaman Jan 22, 2003, 08:02 AM I stand corrected:
Even melee is not acceptable, sir grandmaster. The rule is 'skills', not subskills. Therefore, I take thou meanest 'weaponry', instead of 'melee', and 'powders', instead of 'rifle'.
Otherwise, thou shallest receive... a shrubbery.
Shabbaman Jan 22, 2003, 08:40 AM Everybody has until 12:00 GMT coming friday 24th of january to post his (or her) point distibutions.
Otherwise I'll do it for you:D
The Powder stat upgrades are 'on hold' until then. This does not count towards new characters!

You mean warfare: engineering I assume?
That sounds good:
Cannonry (or better: non-mechanical artillery):
charges+engineering
I think rifle and pistol shooting is connected to weaponry: ranged btw.
So, I propose
Rifle shooting:
rifle+ranged
gunning1 Jan 22, 2003, 09:03 AM POWDERS: 2
Rifle: 2
Pistol: 2
Charges: 1
And if I can, WARFARE+1 HORSEMANSHIP+1.
Veera Anlai Jan 22, 2003, 02:49 PM I disagree Shabbaman. The principles between firing a Bow/Crossbow and a Firearm are inherently different, and knowledge in one skill shouldn't be affected by knowledge in the other. A policeman today won't have his skill in guns increased by knowing how to shoot a bow and arrow, and vice versa.
Veera Anlai Jan 22, 2003, 02:52 PM Erm, also, about the two points for this month, I'll take those in Powders and Horsemanship
Grandmaster Jan 22, 2003, 03:06 PM You are correct again, Sir Shabba. Weaponry and Powders it is. But I say, where will you find a shrubbery? And will it be a nice one, not too tall? If not, then I shall be forced to say "NI!"
Shaitan Jan 22, 2003, 03:08 PM Veera is quite correct. The problem is the WEAPONRY:Ranged skill. It should really have been broken down further into Direct and Indirect fire. Bows use indirect fire at all but the absolute closest ranges. Firearms use direct fire. They are distant cousins but kissing one is nothing like kissing the other one.
Since Ranged has primarily been used for archery, I'd recommend against tying that to firearms.
gunning1 Jan 22, 2003, 03:09 PM I must agree with you Shai.
Grandmaster Jan 22, 2003, 03:20 PM Originally posted by Shaitan

Interesting example, Shai....
But I must agree with you. Being able to shoot a bow has no bearing on being able to fire a pistol.
Donovan Zoi Jan 22, 2003, 04:03 PM My new stats:
POWDERS: 2
Rifle: 0
Pistol: 5
Charged: 0
I'll take termlies in HORSEMANSHIP and POWDERS
I'd also be glad to teach the Pistol class, if you'd like.
Shabbaman Jan 23, 2003, 03:25 AM Well, sir Grandmaster, since you decided to change your preferences, I see no need for a shrubbery.
Fortunately.
Allrighty:
cannonry: charges+engineering
rifles: rifles
pistols: pistols
Are there any other contests?
Shaitan Jan 23, 2003, 03:33 AM Various hunts, depending on the game, would have Rifle in them.
Shaitan Jan 23, 2003, 07:27 AM Please apply Captain Snow's termlies to HORSEMANSHIP and POWDERS.
Padma Jan 23, 2003, 04:02 PM POWDERS: 2
Rifles: 2
Pistols: 2
Charges: 1
Add my termlies to HORSEMANSHIP and POWDERS, please.
Grandmaster Jan 23, 2003, 04:04 PM Just a question, Shabba. If I am forced to "kill off" this Captain Snow character created by Shaitan, will he be removed from the Character roster?
Shaitan Jan 23, 2003, 05:57 PM If he dies, he dies. No need to keep him on the roster when he's wormfood.
Shabbaman Jan 24, 2003, 03:36 AM The man said it:)
Shabbaman Jan 24, 2003, 07:20 AM The term for the new distribution of skill points is closed! I'll post the new stats asap! Note, that termly upgrades are applied at the beginning of the next term (which is to say: not now)
EDIT:
You can find the updated stats here (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads3/fanatikastats3.txt)
Shabbaman Jan 30, 2003, 03:03 AM Jdd stated in the Academy thread that characters should be able to attend 10 classes instead of 8. The reason he brings up, is that there are a lot more classes to attend to nowadays.
I oppose this. I have two reasons for that:
1. A 'real life' thing: If we were able to attend 8 classes in the past, we would have spent a certain amount of time at that occupation. Now, and in the future, we have the same amount of time to spent. Classes take as much time as they did in the past, therefore, it would be realistic that we would still take the same amount of teaching.
2. Diversification: If you can take 'only' 8 classes, this forces characters to choose their skills carefully. This is (imho) more fun than characters with all the same stats. Also, if a character wants to take all classes, he/she can change classes.
Shaitan Jan 31, 2003, 12:31 PM I agree regarding the number of classes. Whether the local college offers 20 classes or 200, eight of them make a full student roster.
Cyc Feb 01, 2003, 02:43 AM Please add my new Termly Skill points to Horsemanship and Weaponry. Thank you.
CivGeneral Feb 01, 2003, 03:48 PM CivGeneral walks into Shabbaman's office, CivGeneral holds in his hand the document:

Since there already have been elections for the next term, I guess the next term will start pretty soon. Remember to post your preferences for the termly (thank you shaitan!) upgrade: you can upgrade 2 (different) main skills to the next full point (so it's not that clever to upgrade from 3.9 to 4.0...)
Post them here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42151) before it's too late...
P.S. I got the preferences of Donovan, Grandmaster, Gunning, Padma, Plexus, 'Snow', Veera Anlai and myself. That means that there are about 18 characters that will not receive an upgrade.
P.P.S. Can't we make a deal? I guess those who don't upgrade don't read this either, so we could just as well redistribute their accounts to those who do upgrade:D
Please add my new Termly Skill points to Powders and Warfare, thanks :). I just hope I cane in just in time.
Strider Feb 01, 2003, 04:47 PM Here are mine;
+1 horsemanship
+1 powders
+2 speed
+3 rifle

rifles contest= powders+rifles
pistols contest= powders+pistols
cannonry= engineering+charges (round up warfare+engineering+powders+charges/2 (the same as for brawl, for example)
mine placement=charges+tactics
More?
EDIT:
Something with strategy? Artillery placement?
I've applied the termly upgrades btw. Todays training will work with those skills.
Shaitan Feb 05, 2003, 05:55 AM Artillery placement would be tactical.
Shabbaman Feb 05, 2003, 06:23 AM Well, what would be powders+strategy then?
Shabbaman Feb 05, 2003, 06:38 AM I've posted the new character stats with the termly upgrade plus the results for todays turn chat training. Also, I've posted the competition scores, for those who are interested how they'd fare in a competition (iow the working stats for their character) here (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads3/competition.txt)!
Shaitan Feb 05, 2003, 07:03 AM Strategy is high level overview. What troops to put in what area, how to supply them, what mix of weaponry to send, which battles MUST be won, the overall war campaign, etc. Tactics is deploying and using the assets in a particular battle or battles, when to retreat, when to advance, what to build or blow up to complete the strategic goals, etc. Strategy feeds into tactics.
For an example, look at the recent adventures of (newly promoted) General Snow. He is a master tactician but a poor strategist. The strategy he formed was to save Naerva from American agression and then eliminate the thread from House Denver. Bad strategy. He tactically outplayed the Americans at Naerva and broke their army. If he had stayed at Naerva he would have had a stragic victory as he could easily have held the city. Instead, he proceeded with his strategic plan and rushed to Denver. This allowed the American army to reform and threated Naerva again. In Denver he again won a tactical victory at first. If he had simply torched the city and returned to Vanir the assault would have been a great success. Instead he held to his strategic plan of caturing/eliminating House Denver. If Prince Grandmaster had not taken a gamble and moved to Naerva both of Snow's tactical victories would have been drowned in an overall strategic loss.
Veera Anlai Feb 05, 2003, 03:09 PM Sorry about the wait, but I'd be glad to become the new Horses teacher :-)
Shabbaman Feb 06, 2003, 02:40 AM That's okay veera. How about powders class?
Shaitan Mar 04, 2003, 05:59 AM Powders and Warfare
Suggestion - Might be time to reorganize the skills a bit. We're industrialized now and ancient forms of warfare are fading quickly.
Question - What's that new avatar? Space Ghost's evil twin? ;)
Shabbaman Mar 07, 2003, 07:04 AM
Actually, it's my OLD avatar (but I finally managed to get it transparent), so I'd think it's time to bring it back. It's some fraternity lore, it represents the executioner of our protective saint...
jdd2007 Mar 07, 2003, 05:06 PM horsemanship and powders
Shabbaman Mar 10, 2003, 03:06 AM That's just in time. I'll update the list today, so for the rest, bad luck:
YOU HAVE JUST RECEIVED AN UPGRADE OF YOUR HUSBANDRY SKILL!
:rotfl:
Shabbaman Mar 21, 2003, 07:43 AM Remember to post your termly upgrades before the 1st of april!
gunning1 Mar 21, 2003, 04:01 PM HUNTING and WAREFARE please.
Strider Mar 22, 2003, 04:59 PM I forget.... How many points do you get for termly upgrades?
Shabbaman Mar 24, 2003, 02:44 AM 2. You have to put them in different main skills, not in subskills. If you don't they're applied to the lowest main skill.
Shaitan Mar 24, 2003, 04:09 AM Powders, horsemanship
Cyc Mar 25, 2003, 12:23 AM Termly upgrades - Defense and Hunting.
Plexus Mar 25, 2003, 01:04 AM Defense and Weaponry, please.
jdd2007 Mar 29, 2003, 09:05 PM defence and horsemanship
Shabbaman Apr 16, 2003, 10:02 AM Hello all, I've posted the final stats for our characters. Have fun with it!
