i'm tired about those DLC's and weak scenarios that nobody plays (no hotseat of course). when is firaxis going to release a earth map once and for all? why is it so complicated?

there is a earth map (badly made btw) but it's small and the civs don't start at their historical areas so there is no point in playing it. I WANT TO PLAY HISTORICAL. I think I'm going to be back to civ4 sooner or later with all the bad diplomacy, bad AI, no scenarios, steam problems, etc. etc.

and for when the WWII scenario? no one cares about polynesia. i'm giving a year for civ5 to have a WWII scenario and a EARTH MAP WITH HISTORICAL STARTING POINTS or else i'll bury this game and play risk instead lol.

I agree with you, I mostly play on a real earth start map because I'm an alternate history nut, and plus conquering the earth is by far more satisfying then some random alien planet. But then again I already made one for myself which is just fine (only problem being that there are too many city-states in Italy) so I can't see how firaxis can really improve it.

Or here's a thought, play risk for your historical simulator and play civ V as a civ game?

Or look for a mod that has fixed civ starting points or a world war II campaign.

Or make your own mod.

A lot of people play the scenarios, and enjoy them. And quite a few enjoy the new civs. The Road to War was a mod created almost entirely by Dale for Civ IV and wasn't released until more than two years after the release of vanilla. Did you quit on civ IV?

1) He doesn't have access to mods, read the other thread he made
2) Its not that easy to mod beyond xml, though I do agree, he should give more time for the code to be released and the major mods to start up (like RFC :))

I think that's an entirely different problem and probably a better complaint. Do you have access to the SDK? It's moddable yourself, no?

Play Paradox games instead.

I was just wondering: As scenario's (at least until now) go with DLC-civs, what missing Civ could be added to warrant a WW2-scenario? I'm afraid all major players are already in the game. Or does anyone have a good suggestion?

Although I wouldn't mind a scenario-DLC with 5 or 10 scenario's (including a WW2-scenario) of the same quality as the ones we've had until now :)

Play a historical simulator like Europa Universalis III when you want to play one.

Play a WWII simulator like Hearts of Iron III when you want to play one.

Play Civ V when you want to play a game that runs from prehistoric times to the future era.

CIv tries to be many things, but you can't have everything in one game.

I , for one, think that historical starting positions are ridiculous in Civ. Most Civs were not present in 4000 BCE so why should they have an "accurate" starting location then?

well, I've had report of people using YnAEMP on mac, but it may need some work, see here : http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=10326316&highlight=mac#post10326316

(and 7zip can be used to unpack the mod)

but I'm not sure that the current version of the mod is still mac compatible, du to the patch differences... still if you want to try it, PM me or post in the YnAEMP thread, I can provide older version of the mod.

Poland :p

Seriously, though, WWII scenarios are in every single Civ game. It's not hard to mirror one of the old ones and create it for Civ5. Otherwise, yeah, you'd have to go with a quickly conquered power like Poland, Netherlands, one of the relatively minor powers like Yugoslavia, or go with Italy.

Or better yet lobby Paradox to make one of its games run from 3000 BC to 2000 AD.

Not really "ridiculous", but I agree with this.
An Earth map without a propper scenario (like the one in Rhye's and Fall of Civ mod in Civ4) doesn't make sense.

I agree with this post. I bought the DLC mappack and was looking forward to playing the Mediterranean map, and to my surprise my glorious Rome was neighboured by America and Siam. Really Firaxis? I was really hoping for some historical immersiveness and then it's just another random game of Civ.

Then I restarted and chose Med-like Civs, but for some reason choosing the Civs myself turned the game into one big graphical error. So I'm not going to be playing the mappack I purchased.

With standard Civ Games, all historical starts on real map does is make the game easier because you know where everything is before you start. IMHO, of course.

It's also a fun challenge to battle your way out of the center of a crowded Europe only to find yourself up against civilizations that have had whole continents to themselves :)

a big problem with wanting starting locations is that russia and one other european nation would be in a single game (europe is just too small with too many civs inside) also mongolia siam china and japan would be on top of each other. then there is also persia india and arabia trying to fit into a somewhat small area (not as tight as east asia or europe especially) and south america would be empty or filled with city states (without inca dlc).

It wasnt in Civ4 until BTS so give it time

well you might not agree with me but CIV4 had a WWII scenario and multiple scenarios on release date as a matter of fact and CIV5 has still not much substance after many DLCs. i would rather see good scenarios and hotseat instead of weird maps like the Bering strait and new civs after new civs.

Hotseat is coming, and new civs are more fun because they can either be put into a base game OR made part of the grand campaign. I guess I'm saying I'm happy with the game I got.

I'd like starting points for a few civs, but the Incans would win the game, and Polynesia and Denmark would be doomed.

they should make the unique unit of the quebec civ, the FLQ guerilla fighter. it could sabotage things. :P

yeah i guess it's not the same because of the research agreements. in civ4 the incas sucked in the earth map because they were alone and couldn't trade with anyone. not the same thing in civ5...i don't know to me it would be quite simple to make a earth scenario. there are not obliged to put all civs at the same level...

I love Earth maps and sometimes I like real starting positions and others I don't. I would love to have a DLC earth map that is accurate in start positions and resources. I haven't bought a map pack yet, but I would pay for an accurate (Taken straight from Google Earth even) map with real start locations, and city states that balance out some of the regions of course.

I like conquering our earth. For me, having all the great civilizations duke it out in an alternative history is the REASON for playing. Pushing your way through europe... or defending the middle east from asia, africa and europe... or playing in north america and having to fight a few large empires... or play in africa and have all the land you need... or my fave... as England... building an empire from your tiny island...

Lot's of fun and I think Firaxis should get on it.. whether they actually do is another story. But at least we have Civ DLC's. I'm looking forward to seeing more of those.

I'm from Canada.. and I know this is a little politically charged... but I would love to see a two Civ DLC, with Quebec and Canada... :) That would be fun to play.

I don't mind being alone, no one to stop your expansion into a whole CONTINENT. If we're including CSs (are we?), you have Rio De Janeiro to yourself for a nice food boost.
