Hi Kryten,

:goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

I'd just like to add my thanks to everybody else for all the hard work you put in. I'm downloading them slowly (I have got to the end of the ancient age:D ) and they all look excellent.

Being a picky little so-and-so, as well as a perfectionist, I noticed one or two (three to be precise;)) bugs in Krytens otherwise excellent work, the fixed files are included in this zip. (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/MunitFix.zip)

Just in case anybody wants to know, the spearmen north run had a small grey mark at the bottom of the frame, the archers arrows stuck on the right of the frame, and a warriors axe went sligltly dodgy on the right of the frame.

EDIT: A few days later I also noticed grey marks at the bottom of the N, and NW frames, which are fixed using this replacement file. (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/spearmanFortify.flc)

I am still having trouble with this mulit unit thing. The instructions are for PSP. Can I use Photoshop 7.0? If so, can someone tell me how to make multi units with it? I can cet the FLICster part and the SBB part right; but I am messing up the middle. Thanks!:goodjob:

I know this may be considered reviving a dead thread, but I was wondering if it was legal to post PTW units since Firaxis allowed people to post and use for other units the PTW units? (LouLong's posting of the extras, people using Abu and Osman's heads for Arab units, etc)

(I was hoping for a Crusader MFU, but then I remembered copyrights. :-/)

I'm afraid all Conquests units are out

Padma

Smellincoffee: You may make MFUs out of the "extras" units that have already been released, but PTW units that are used in Conquests are still off-limits.

DANGERBOY
Jan 21, 2004, 03:22 PM
There's a download that contains all of the non-Conquest "extras", right? So we could double-check against that to make sure we're not playing with forbidden fruit. And any day now Amazon will relinquish its death-grip on my copy of Conquests... (wife ordered a book that might not ship right away and is thus holding up the rest of the order).

Has anyone actually posted any "released extras" munits?

CCJ39
Jan 21, 2004, 03:42 PM
yes, I've created and posted (and uploaded) some units as mf-units of the ptw-extra

look here (http://www.ccj39.com/gameshtml/civ3_5.php)

OK. I get it. I need PSP to work the multi unit. I've been out of the loop for a few months (medical problems). Is there a way to make MUs with a different program or any other way for that matter. I have some good ideas for units and can't afford PSP? Thanks in advance.

I think you can use nearly every program, that support pcx-files

I also used "Micrografx Picture Publisher 8" at the beginning (befor PSP8), but without the color-replace-function of PSP it's a hard work

Fr8monkey
Jan 30, 2004, 12:49 PM
I downloaded a sample PCX editor and it seems to work....until. I save the .bmp as a 256 color pcx. I then go back to the Flickster and extract the new file and I can't get it to open.... even the program shows the M-unit design just as I design. What did I do wrong?

zulu9812
Jan 30, 2004, 02:32 PM
Are you reducing the colours on the bmp to 256 before saving as a pcx?

Fr8monkey
Jan 30, 2004, 03:27 PM
Yes, I believe I did. I opened the file and brought it up into the PCX editor as a BMP, set to 256 colors then saved as PCX, then went back into Flicster. It comes up as a PCX file; but I can't access it with Flicster. Make any sense? If not, later tonight I will load up some pics.

Edit: I got a trial copy of PSP 8; but saving in .pcx STILL doesn't work. Flicster don't recognize it.

I am starting to get into this. Here is the final example of a settler unit I am trying.
Here are 2 pics I saved from the PSP 8 save process. The first is the save to 256 colors and the second is the save to .PCX. Am I doing it right? Flicster is still not recognizing the .pcx save.

hm, don't know what you're doing wrong, but if you can send me the pcx-file to info@ccj39.com and I'll try to make a working MF-unit with it

BTW: very nice unit ;)

With paintshop pro:

Open the storyboard of the single unit used to make the MUnit
Save the pallette "Colors->Save Pallette" Save as whatever, wherever
Load your new MUnit storyboard
Load that pallette "Colors->Load Pallette".
Save
Reload flicster.

See if that helps

So we cannot make the C3C units into Munits and post them... but theoretically we could go and convert all of them on our own computers, so long as we did not share them.

So what program would one use to make a MUnit (speaking as one not very experienced at this whole graphical modification thing, but very appreciative of y'alls hard work)?

BTW, the one time I uninstalled and reinstalled the game without this MUnit pack, I thought it was the end of the world. The game just looks so bad without them. No one I can think of is able to play the game without them now. I hope they are standard fare in Civ4!

Thanks for all your hard work on this MUnit pack for those of us unable to do it ourselves!

Steph made a very good program. If it is not in this topic, it's somewhere else on this forum.

you need 3 programs to create MF-Units

1. FLICster to work with flc-files in a Civ3-compatible way
2. StoryBoardBuilder (SBB) to create MF-units in some easy steps
3. a program like PaintShopPro (maybe 8 or 8.1)

1st and 2nd are available from my site (section "Programs" in "Civ3"), look my sig for link
you can get the 3rd as trial version from www.jasc.com (I think 30 or 60 days trial, it's enough if you only want to create the C3C-units)

if you need a full tutorial how to create such unit, look to the tutorials on my page too ;)

Still confused by one part of the directions, but I will rely on dumb luck (and you seeing the post in your tutorial area!) to figure it out!

Thanks!

When will u do the Conquest Units?

Supa
Apr 10, 2004, 12:27 PM
Never. It's forbidden by Firaxis and CFC wouldn't allow them to be posted here.

Ankka
Apr 14, 2004, 01:59 PM
Why so? I mean, what's the point in allowing vanilla units modding, but banning PTW & C3C units from that? :hmm:

Supa
Apr 14, 2004, 02:08 PM
People with vanilla Civ3 could download these PTW & C3C units.

Now that most of PTW units are available via Internet, I think the ban isn't there anymore for them.

Edit : I mean the bonus units of PTW.

Ankka
Apr 15, 2004, 10:22 AM
OK, I see the point... The only way to get past that would be to make a whole new set of units that go instead of the ones in pTW and C3C now, I guess...

Denarr

OK, it took four hours, but I read this entire thread before posting.
I'm downloading all the zips one file at a time. (I'm on panzer at the moment.)
With most people having one version or the other of PTW, has the ban on the PTW multiunits been lifted?
If/when you make PTW multiunits, could you put them in a separate section, so we don't have to sort through the list for the new ones?
Or is this something you've already done, and it just hadn't been announced?
Does not having PTW specific units as multiunits mean that the PTW units will appear to be outnumbered by the Multiunits?
Will the Multiunits need to be installed in both the PTW folder, and the Vanilla civ folder for me to see multiunits in scenarios made for each type of game.
I've never found out how Civ III Gold Edition effects Vanilla Civ and PTW scenarios. Seems like I have the option to make scenarios for either one, depending on how I open the editor.
If anyone can clarify this or point me to the correct thread, I would definitely appreciate their help.

People with vanilla Civ3 could download these PTW & C3C units.

But wouldn't he be allowed to post MUnits for those untis if he used CFC-Created units graphics instead of the firaxis unit graphics? I mean, he used the APC for the MechInf, cause it looked better, didn't he?

oh yes, I see
I've created them for a mod long time ago and as the mod was canceled, I stoped creating MF-Units, so some units from the extra-units and also some other WW2-units not finished
if needed I'll create the rest of the extra-units in the next free time (in August)

Go to your "Art\Units"-subdirectory... there's an ini-file in each unit-folder. If you open and change the file-entries in the "Sound Effects"-parts like the following, you wont get any sound while playing with this unit (you need to make it for every unit you don't like to hear, or you restore the original-soundfiles from a backup).

[Sound Effects]
BLANK=
DEFAULT=
WALK=
RUN=
ATTACK1=
ATTACK2=
ATTACK3=
DEFEND=
DEATH=
DEAD=
FORTIFY=
FORTIFYHOLD=
FIDGET=
VICTORY=
TURNLEFT=
TURNRIGHT=
BUILD=
ROAD=

FORTRESS=

Ok, lets say i dont like the sound Warriorcharge.wav In the .ini file, theres no such sound:

[Sound Effects]
BLANK=
DEFAULT=
WALK=
RUN=WarriorRun.amb
ATTACK1=WarriorAttackA.amb
ATTACK2=WarriorAttackA.amb
ATTACK3=
DEFEND=
DEATH=WarriorDeath.wav
DEAD=
FORTIFY=WarriorFortify.wav
FORTIFYHOLD=
FIDGET=WarriorFidget.wav
VICTORY=WarriorVictory.wav
TURNLEFT=
TURNRIGHT=
BUILD=
ROAD=
MINE=
IRRIGATE=
FORTRESS=
CAPTURE=
STOP_AT_LAST_FRAME=

what should i do then?

CCJ39
Jul 29, 2005, 05:37 PM
the soundfile you mean is a sound while attacking, right? (reload-sound)...

you should set
ATTACK1=WarriorAttackA.amb
ATTACK2=WarriorAttackA.amb
to
ATTACK1=
ATTACK2=

because the "amb"-files are working like a sound-script and using/mixing different wave-files in a special way

WARRIOR_MD
Jul 29, 2005, 05:50 PM
Yep, but then ill hear no sound at all when attacking =)
I think that maybe the thing i should do is replace the WarriorAttackA.amb ans WarriorAttackA.amb with the originals, or replace the wav files that i dont like (WarriorAttackASlash.WAV, Warriorcharge.WAV and Warriormelee.WAV) with other wav files with the same name but that dont contain any sound. Am i right? =)

CCJ39
Jul 30, 2005, 03:12 AM
sure, you simply need to replace the wav-files you don't like... you can leave the amb-files, because they only mix the existing wav-files and don't contain own sounds...

SoulSkorpion
Jul 30, 2005, 11:50 PM
It would be too much to ask for originally created replacements for the PTW and Conquests units so we can have M-units, wouldn't it? :)

Tank_Guy#3
Nov 01, 2005, 01:31 PM
Kryten, all I can say of the units is :eek: and :dubious: . You should make your own multi-figure mod, that would kick some serious...
