View Full Version : Units_32 Does Nothing!

I was loading the new MUnits into a MUnit mod and I didn't do anything to make the Units_32 different to compinsate for the new MUnits, but they showed up as MUnits in the build que and the unit icons used in the Tech Tree are the small Pediaicons, known form moding experience. The only thing they do is make you feel happy when moding so you can "see" the unit you're adding, other then that, that file is pretty much POINTLESS!

What did you expect? The units_32.pcx uses pre-defined images. Speaking of which, would ppl like to see a munits section in my Mega units_32 file, or are they quite happy to use the single figure icons?

I'm happy w/o it, since it does nothing:p

Umm... I think if you right click and go change production it shows the icon from the units_32 file, but other then that I can't think of anything else

Is it used in the city-view, at the bottom showing all the units in the city?

i believe it is used in the city screen, and in the build queue. The button in the city screen showing what is currently being built is taken directly from the FLC, but the list that appears when the button is clicked is from units32.

Zulu: Are you sure you can cram a multifigure unit into a 32x32 box and still have some detail left?

Doubt it, so I won't bother :D

And the line at the bottom of the city screen uses the units_32 sheet, so no they won't be multi-figured.

There is a slight (incurable) problem with multi-figure units and the city build window....
....the top half of the unit is cut off.
(I can live with it however)

I say Kryten, if you've finished the Companion Cavalry and the Javelinmen...;)

You should send that SS to FIRAXIS, and ask em if there is anything they can do to help. I can live with it too, but it would be better if it wasnt like that. Plus you know you will have newbies come in asking why it does that. :D

Well, I know why it cuts them off......
.....the game wasn't designed to have multi-figure units in it!
(It's to do with the off-set that each flc has. I could make 'em look right in the city build window.....but that same new off-set would make them appear to be half in & half out of the map tiles.
It needs a coding change I'm afraid)

Almost finished.......;)

(Along with the Ancient Trading Ship, the Persian Levy Spearman, the Persian Heavy Four-Horsed Scythed Chariot, the Settlers Wagon, the Imperial Roman Axuiliary, The Imperial Roman Horseman, the Horse Artillery unit, the Saracen Camel Bedouin, the Mounted Swordsman, the Desert Camel Settler, the 17th century Cannon Gunner, the 18th Century Cannon Gunner......
.....then there is the Middle Ages Multi-Figure Modpack, the Industrial Multi-Figure Modpack, the Modern Multi-Figure Modpack....
.....and of course the tutorial about how to use Steph's marvellous SBB utility to create convincing new multi-figure units.......
.....as well as answering various questions in the new Multi-Figure Units Forum.....

You would not believe the last time I actually played the bloody game!)

I feel your pain.

Also units-32 is used in the military advisor screen.

I actually just started my first game in a long time this past weekend. Now, I can't figure out why I stopped playing CivIII just to make units! ;)

Ok, point proven, it does something, now to make this the "When was the last time you actually sat down and played Civ" thread...

I know that too. It is strange I love the game, yet I have only played it through five times. But when PTW came out I played it again as the Germans, and had a great, fun, five day long game where I was a zombie, a slink-off-my-chair-to-fall-asleep-on-the floor-only-to-wake-up-six-hours-later-and-move-my-worker-who-had-waited-patiently-for-six-hours-for-me-to-tell-him-what-to-do game.

Heh. Reminds me of when I was modding Diablo II. I modded so much I think I only played the game to test out the stuff I was adding in! Ah, well...everyone else gets the benefits of a modder's work, and the modder has fun making the changes. We're a bit wierd, aren't we? :crazyeye:
