I got a small question which I m almost embarressed to ask, but anyway, HOW THE HECK DO I BUILD ROADS, IRRIGATION ETC. in "Call to Power 2"??? This used to be the settlers job, how do I do it now?

OK, I just found the "tile"-thing, but now I have another probably just as stupid question, HOW DO I CHANGE GOVERNMENT? I have discovered 3-4 different governments, and currently I have monarchy as government, but I d like to change to Theocracy, how?

It will be on one of the menus...The tile thing was a bit strange and its hard to remember to keep on upgrading tiles because you don't use a unit to build the upgrades.

To change goverments you need to go to the empire menu, and in one of the two screens threre you can compare and change goverment types

simple press F1
then up the top are tabs
click the one that says GOVERNMENT
choose government
click enacts

done

I don't know if it's the same in CtP 2, but in CtP I wondered for a long time why I couldn't upgrade some terrain improvement although I had discovered the needed prerequisite, until I discovered the missing tiles improvements were "hidden" (and that I had to click on the side of the terrain improvement window to make them appear !!!)

The interface in the Call to Power series is horrible. But that "public works" thingy is even worse!!

I disagree. As long as you patiently set aside acertain percentage of your gold each turn, you can build up a massive reserve of public works funds. Then, when you acquire the advance needed for a major new type of improvement - such as railways - you can build a nationwide network all at once!

In Sider Meier's Civ series, you're limited by the number of settler or worker units you possess; it can take dozens of turns to link all your cities up with rails. Not so with CTP - just lay down all the track you can afford in one turn, and it will be functional a couple of turns later. The same applies to mega mines and hydroponic farms - once you're advanced enough to build them, you can boost the production/food output of many cities simultaneously. My favourite is undersea tunnels. Save up public works against the necessary discovery, and then create rail links between all your various continents and islands in one grand development.

Public works is one of the primary advantages of CTP.

I fully agree. I may even say that's why in Civ3 there are settlers (to found cities) and workers (to do the public works).

I recently rediscovered SMAC, and this "cultural" idea in Civ3 is somewhat similar to the borders or territory you have, don't you think? (apart from the fact that I've never seen any city in Alpha Centaury change faction if it wasn't "bought" before ;) )

Never really tried SMAC. But one can see why it's not as popular as the main Civ games. CTP seems more alive (sorry to sound sentimental).

:confused: I Just started playing Civ 2 Call to power.. But the thing that annoys me the most is that i dont know how to upgrade obsolete units. Is this possible in the game? :confused:

No. You have to build new units and disband the old ones eventually, or they become a burden to support. There is no equivalent of Leonardo's Workshop in Call to Power.

That said, workhorse units such as samurai, knights and pikemen may become obsolete, but remain useful for emergency defence or fortifying strong-terrain outposts for a long time thereafter.
