View Full Version : Im searching for singleplayer RPGs philippe Jan 26, 2003, 10:17 AM Im searching for free singleplayer RPGs. Please don't give illegal links. Please help me! puglover Jan 26, 2003, 08:28 PM That's what I want! philippe Jan 27, 2003, 04:29 AM What do you mean? puglover Jan 27, 2003, 09:33 AM Online games where you play as a charecter and do stuff. philippe Jan 27, 2003, 01:14 PM I mean OFFLINE games SINGLEPLAYER! I wouldnt have to search hard after a MMRPG... puglover Jan 27, 2003, 01:22 PM Oh. Sorry. philippe Jan 27, 2003, 01:31 PM Now help me searching one! then your apology is accepted!;););) Portuguese Jan 27, 2003, 06:55 PM What kind of? Wheel of Souls? Diablo2? Legends of Zelda? ?!? No matter of it, in the beggining of next week I'll say SoRHunter to help you. He has a good database of them :D philippe Jan 27, 2003, 08:25 PM Hmm may be from all kinds.I just love RPGs:D Thx Portuguese for your co-operation. Greeny Jan 29, 2003, 11:48 AM If you want some real "Role Playing" in your games, then I cant recomend Planescape Torment enough, it is IMO the best RPG ever and the best written game of any kind. The role-playing, chacters, dialog, setting, and plot are exeptional. Theres a lot of reading involved so if your a hack-n-slash person this wont be your cup of tea. Good luck finding it though, it recently officaly went "out of print" for some mad reason as it's only 3 years old (my guess is some licencing issue, also although criticaly acclaimed it sold criminaly poorly) but some shops may still have it, or you could probably find it second hand. Other classic Interplay RPGs include Fallout 1 & 2 they are post-apocalyptic RPGs with exelent character creation/ development loads of side quests, and the freedom to be good guy or be a real basted, a reputaion and karma sustem ensured the choices you make do have consequences. The second one especialy is massive. The combat is very refeshing if you tired of swords and magic, now you can have some real hardware: rocket-lauchers, machine guns, automatic-shotguns, assult-rifes, plasma weapons, you name it. BTW they are both quite dark and moody (athough not without humour), but then again I like dark and moody games  here are some-links: Interplay website (http://www.interplay.com/games/product.asp?gameid=315) Torment review (http://www.gamesdomain.com/gdreview/zones/reviews/pc/jan00/plane.html) Fallout 2 review (http://www.gamesdomain.com/gdreview/zones/reviews/pc/dec98/fallout2.html) Lord_Vetinari Jan 29, 2003, 01:05 PM Well, my RPG experience is actually limited to Squaresoft's games, and in particular the Final Fantasy series. I have played every one from part 6 to 10 and I love them all, definetely worth to check out. My favourite RPG is not a FF however, it is Chrono Trigger for SNES. Very good game, I really reccomend it (if you can find it that is) Zelig Jan 29, 2003, 03:40 PM A good free old-style RPG is Nethack. There's no real storyline, but its still fun now and again. DaEezT Jan 29, 2003, 04:54 PM Free offline RPGs: NetHack (http://nethack.sourceforge.net/v340/ports/download-win.html) - Should be well known as one of the oldest and best rogue clones. ADoM (http://www.adom.de/adom/download.php3) - Another roguelike game with more stuff than NetHack (even a story). Zelda CLassic (http://www.zeldaclassic.com/download.shtml) - A remake (not a warez version of the original NES ROM) of the classic Zelda for NES. Dungeon Master Java (http://www.cs.pitt.edu/~alandale/dmjava/download.html) - Remake of the classic game in Java (real Java, not java script). Dink Smallwood (http://www.rtsoft.com/dink/download.htm) - This one was made freeware by the developer. Those are the best free RPGs I know. There are several others I've played but all of those where unstable/buggy so I would stick to those. Of course there are 2 RPGs out there which are worth buying, the 2 best RPGs ever made on any system: Fallout 1 & 2. Both are classics so they shouldn't be too expensive. Greeny Jan 29, 2003, 05:15 PM oops didnt realise you wanted free RPGs, well Torment will probably be classed as abandonware soon, which is techniacly illigal of course, (although not imoral in my opinion). Anyway all three are on budget now so should be avalible cheap, trust me they will be very good value for money. philippe Jan 30, 2003, 06:18 AM thx Deatzt DaEezT Jan 30, 2003, 09:53 AM Originally posted by philippe thx Deatzt you are defenitly in the "Misspell my name Top 3" with that one :goodjob: .:KNAS:. Jan 30, 2003, 12:27 PM Hey DaEezt, havent seen much of you since they closed the PG, am i blind or have we just been "hanging out" in different forums? DaEezT Jan 30, 2003, 12:38 PM wow, KNAS is still alive [dance] well, I haven't been posting for the past few month, just crept out of my cave to look out for MoO3, now that it's gone gold :D maybe it's just me but it seems like thing have gotten kinda slow around here.. anyway, where is my MoO3? SunTzu Jan 30, 2003, 02:12 PM i have some 30 SNES RPGs on my computer, just classics Breath of Fire 1 and 2 Legend of Zelda : A link to the past Final Fantasy 2, 3 and mystic quest Illusion of Gaia Secret of Mana Secret of Evermore Chrono Trigger Lagoon ect ect philippe Jan 30, 2003, 02:23 PM I doubt they are free and/or legal.. Portuguese Jan 30, 2003, 03:24 PM Free and legal  Free or legal ;) Greadius Feb 02, 2003, 01:49 AM I bought Planescape: Torment for a total of $14 over the web a few months ago. And Fallout 1 & 2 in the same box for $10. I'd highly recommend both those games too, and they're PRACTICALLY free ;) Rheinmetall Feb 18, 2003, 06:27 AM http://www.jmp.fi/~smaarane/urw.html Great if you bother to register ;) philippe Feb 18, 2003, 12:46 PM wow thx for all your responses!:D puglover Feb 18, 2003, 01:08 PM Originally posted by Rheinmetall http://www.jmp.fi/~smaarane/urw.html Great if you bother to register ;) looks cool! Downloading now! ;) WinterRose Feb 19, 2003, 12:06 AM ToME - Tales of Middle Earth http://www.t-o-m-e.net/ (http://www.t-o-m-e.net/) Developed from Angband (http://www.thangorodrim.net/), which was made from near-ancient game known as Moria. ToME is most Midde Earth themed from all roguelike RPG's. jack merchant Mar 08, 2003, 07:50 AM There's an old Sierra RPG that's available for free now: Betrayal at Krondor. A google search should locate it. metalhead Mar 14, 2003, 11:38 AM AD&D Forgotten Realms games - Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades, and Pools of Darkness. All but Pools of Darkness can easily be found free on the net, and are among the best RPG's I've ever played. zippy Mar 18, 2003, 04:44 AM If you like rogue type games, and some of them have become much more sophisticated, try this link <a href="http://dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Roleplaying/Rogue-like/desc.html"></a><br> I would suggest Omega, as it has multiple locations and quests rather than being one long dungeon crawl. If you want to spend some money, I found Icewind Dale totally addictive, and its sequel is proving to be just as good. goododa Mar 18, 2003, 11:20 PM Planescape: Torment is a great game, but it's just too dark and moody. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't want to play it again. Besides, it's set in Planescape, which is a pretty bizarre world...:( Singleplayer RPG's, eh? Actually I have been disappointed by RPGs for many years and have already switched to strategy games. There just aren't enough RPGs that are enjoyable or even replayable. Games just get more and more graphically delicate (increasing in size) while the plot gets more and more linear. What a waste of disk space! Seriously though, I remember there was something called RPGMaker 2000 and there were quite a lot of people who made games with it. Some of those free Japanese-style RPGs were quite decent actually. But I think that RPGMaker English translation wasn't authorized by Artdink and the project shut down a long time ago. Knight-Dragon Mar 18, 2003, 11:29 PM There's going to be a new RPGMaker of some kind for the PS2 in 2003, IIRC what I read weeks ago... Right now, a whole slew of console RPGs had just been released for the PS2, with a few more coming in the remainder of the year. You can check out my console RPG thread below for that. :) El Tee Mar 28, 2003, 05:51 PM I second the Fallout 1 and 2 games, IMO the best single player RPGs made. Somewhat humorous, but very dark overall. In a spiritual sort of way, they were the descendants of Wasteland - I never thought a text based game could be so good. Anyone who played knows what I mean. I don't think it would do well at all today, since the graphics are well, they are pitiful in comparison to even the worst games today. But as far as an overall gaming experience, it was the first game that I spent hours and hours playing, without regard to time. I haven't played it myself, as I don't have the time, but there's a game called Arcanum that uses a similar character generation format to Fallout - but it's set in a magic/tech world. Rheinmetall Apr 03, 2003, 01:10 AM Yes I have played both Fallouts and they are absolutely great games. I'm a bit disappointed with Fallout 2 however. The game was not ready at the time of publishing so many quests and places that were meant to be included are missing. Portuguese Apr 04, 2003, 12:27 PM Have you played Diablo II - Lord Of Destruction expansion? If you did, now play the mod in my sig's link. It's from KATO, from Canada, and it's soooooo cooool :cooool: ... Just play version 2.4 and see how monsters got tougher  Hergrom Apr 22, 2003, 12:00 PM If you are looking for free RPG's, try this site: http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com/index.html I believe all of the Exile seires is free, and some of the Avernum series is too. I played the first Exile, and it was pretty good for a free game. There are about 10 or 12 games offered on this site. Cedric Greene Apr 22, 2003, 02:05 PM Some Dragon Warrior clones for those into old school stuff. http://www.dragon-warrior.com/Fan-Made_Games/ |
