So what is your favorite Civilization game, expansions included? But not in the sense about which one is best. Read my description to understand.
My favorite Civilization game is probably Civilization III. Although Civ5 is most likely the best in my opinion, Civilization III takes the top spot. Civilization III was the first one I have played, and I have many memories of it, and the late night hours of me playing it. I love the nostalgia of going back and playing a game every once and a while. I also feel it gives me the most just one more turn feeling when I'm really into the game.

So in short Civilization III is m favorite, not because it is the best (but better than Civilization IV in my opinion), but because it will always be a classic, and as the original game which made me fall in love with the series.

I voted civ5. Civ4 has the most features and is probably more balanced but civ5 is the game which i'm the most addicted. I never stopped playing this game since september(i usually take some breaks). With some expansions it will be even better. And the new patch may offer a better gaming experience.

Civ V, by far. Then again, I never had any expansions for IV, but the expansions seem like they would make it even more complicated.

Well at the moment I play last three Civs, and I find Civ V and III most fun at the moment, and V doesn't even have any expansions yet. So I Voted for V.

You're missing the best Civ game ever: Call To Power 2.

It's funny that you think Civilization 3 is the best, that's actually the worst in the series for us original players.

I've been playing since the series was released and I find each new version to have its own strengths, but the tech tree and military strategy of CTP 2 are unmatched in any other Civ game. Civ V is awesome because of its ability to easily mod the game and some of the other features as well, but I'm still quite annoyed that they haven't taken the idea of massive #s of Techs from CTP2 to really enhance the replay value and add new strategies to the game.

I voted for Civ V. I've played 'em all, except III -- starting with the original Civilization back in 1991.

Surprisingly, Civ V is (so far) almost holding its own in this poll against Civ IV. There was a similar poll back in January or February of this year, on the "Off Topic" sub-forum, and on that poll -- after a couple of hundred votes -- Civ IV was the winner by a margin of about 3 to 1, I seem to remember.

Surprisingly, Civ V is (so far) almost holding its own in this pollGood chance that's because it's in the Civ5 forum.

I've only played 4&5, I must give Call to Power 2 a shot--WeNeedMoreCivs makes it sound good :)

Good chance that's because it's in the Civ5 forum.

Yes I put it here because I figured it would get an audience that has played the 5th one and most likely some other ones too.

civ V is tops for me, followed closely by civ II. when I play civ V it kind of feels somewhat like civ II. I'm surprised that Alpha Centauri didn't get on here. Though I didn't play that one that much I did enjoy it a bit more than III or IV. We need another Alpha Centauri, or perhaps find a way to incorporate a new version of it in civ V with an expansion
I feel that civ III is the worst. civ IV got a lot of playtime, though the expansion bogged it down too much. I never really "got" Civ III or IV.

Civilization II although I haven't really played CivIII yet. Civ4 & BTS was a HUGE disappointment for me.

I voted CivIII -- because I agree with the OP. While I played Civ II, I enjoyed CivIII more -- probably because I was more mature at the time. While I know CivIII isn't the "best" in terms of gameplay and strategic decisions (like IV and V), I also get a huge amount of nostalgia. Especially from the music.

I always use a playlist of civ III, IV and V music (base on the civ i'm playing) into one when playing V. Honestly, it's a fantastic mix for those who haven't tried this already.

You're right...it was his favorite, not the best. I stand corrected!

CTP 2 is amazing because of the tech tree. There are so many techs that it's impossible to really even fathom how they came up with them all. Even though the game has been surpassed in numerous areas by newer Civ games since it was released in 2000, the tech tree and available units and buildings are my all-time favorite.

There is a mod for Civ V that makes it like Call to Power by Procylon.

Alpha Centauri. I grew up playing that and Civ, and have lots of fond memories of both, but Alpha Centauri's world was just so immersive and gave me so much to think about that it really shaped my life in a lot of ways. Plus, to this day I am able to impress people by the number of deep, philosophical quotes I have memorized from playing that game.

I agree thats one thing i didnt liked about civ 4 you had to look at so many things that you had to micromange every turn..

I voted Civ V out of the "pure" civ games, but really it's all about SMAC. In retrospect it was a horribly flawed game in so many ways, but it had so much cool stuff as well and I just love it to bits.

SMAC would definitely win if it was an option, but since it's not...
I chose "Civ IV", but i actually meant "Fall From Heaven, Fall Further and Orbis".
This, although replace FF with Wild Mana/MoM.

IMO Civ V is a better game than Civ IV but the sheer quantity and variety of mods Civ IV has built up over the years gives it the edge at the moment. Hopefully if/when the DLL code is released there will be a similar level of modding.

I've played all of them to death, and Civ5 seems to be going the same way. In terms of number of games played, probaby Civ4BTS. CivIII I loved, but never seemed to have time, CivII I only had on PlayStation, so each game took a freakin' age to play, it was so slow, and Civ I I only played at my friend's place.

Bought a new computer so I could play Civ 5. Well, that and so I could more easily do music production and watch Lost in HD, but mostly Civ 5.

I'm another that would go for SMAC, and it's expansion, Alien Crossfire... but as it's not there, I voted for V.

I have only stepped back into Erebus and my god, from 2 years ago a LOT has happened, and the Erebus themed mods/FFH themed mods are better than ever. wow.

i am thouroughly impressed with them and its a lot to absorb - should occupy me well into the next official expansion and hopefully until it goes on sale :)

Civ V is my favorite, I really like the game and what they've done to it. I liked all the versions of Civ actually, I've put tons of hours into this franchise. The only one really REALLY irratating thing out of all of it was the game with the pollution problem. You had to have a gazillion workers running around cleaning up pollution. I think that was Civ III, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The civilization five "expansions" are disgusting, sick, pieces of trash, inspired by the desire to make lots of money. If you look at the whole picture the one at a time civ releases are monstrous rip-offs, when compared to an expansion like beyond the sword.

I voted CivIV. The expansions were great and the mods that came along after the expansion is one of the reasons I probably have over a 1000 hours logged into CivIV.

Once again, the 'favourite civ' poll of the year. In a dedicated civ forum. And civ5 ain't even leading! :rotfl:

Unless there was another poll though you won't know if people think its the best though. Time has an interesting way of making people attached to the old.

CIV V is holding it's own because this topic is posted in the CIV V forum. What's more surprising is that it's not actually leading the poll in it's own, dedicated forum. If this poll were posted in the "Off Topic" sub-forum I would expect the 3:1 ratio to still be intact in CIV IV's favor.

For what it's worth, I voted for CIV III, as it introduced - (borrowed from SMAC) - cultural borders, and that's been my favorite addition to the series over the years. :)

Voted for Civ II (You had to be there) only because SMAC wasn't a choice. I've always wondered why none of the innovations in SMAC, okay; terraforming, never showed up in the late-game stage of Civ. On the other hand, I've waited ages for canals and navigable rivers in Civ so maybe I shouldn't wonder.

Ye-es… which is why every couple months the latest civ favouritism poll eventually yields the same results. Civ4, then, depending on the exact subforum, civ 3 or 2 lord it over civ5. Even in civ5 forums the non-4s have decent performances. Why would that be?
