I think every console manufacturer needs its mascotte to represent it. I actually don't know if this counts for all consoles...
Nintendo - Mario and his gay brother Luigi (Okay, not sure about the gay part)
Sega - The hedgehog, what's it's name again?
Sony Playstation - Lara Croft?
Neo Geo - Characters from Streetfighter Alpha?
Microsoft X-box - Bill Gates in tights? Yuck!

yea but at least all the other console mascots stayed in the games that they belonged in!

I just see that there are other games besides civ that can be and are equally as entertaining.
It all depends on my mood for what kind of game I want to play!
