I originally posted this in bug reports, but I imagine it's not a bug per se, probably me doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

I've been having this problem off and on for the past couple of months (since I've owned Civ III and PTW).

PTW 1.14, PIII 500 256 Mb Win ME

On occasion, I will load the game, and the Title Page fonts will be all out of whack. Starting/loading a game is no problem, and gameplay is normal, but all the city name fonts are also barely legible.

Here is a shot of the title page (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads3/Title_Font.jpg).

I haven't been able to figure out why it happens or what triggers it, because it only happens maybe one time out of 8. I've tried disabling all the other programs possible in Task Manager. I took all the 'Lucida' Fonts out of my fonts folder. What I do is Exit, the wait 10 seconds, and start the game again. This works 99% of the time.

Any ideas?
PS I've never had a 'font error' message.

Civ 3 is supposed to have similar problems sometimes if you have more than 255 fonts installed, could this be the problem?

I count only 98 files in my Windows/Fonts folder.
I hope you don't mean 255 total fonts (including each size). :p

Just 255 files in the \fonts folder. :)

It sounds as if it's a Windows problem rather than a Civ one if it's intermittant, maybe it's the fault of a program you've run that doesn't shut down properly?

That's certainly possible; the problem is, I can't figure out which program it is (probably IE, although it's occasionally done this right off of starting up). And when I check the Task Manager, there's nothing out of the ordinary.

*sigh* Thanks for your help, CE.
