View Full Version : The great CFC chain letter: around the world in 80 days!
jtb1127 Sep 27, 2011, 06:08 PM For a given definition of "America"... :mischief:
Oh no, not the whole "Brazilians and Canadians are Americans too..."
If you can think of something better to call inhabitants of the US then you should share. I personally like "United Stateseans" better.
Midleiro F. Sep 27, 2011, 06:15 PM Here in Brazil we just call you North-americans or "estadunidenses".
LucyDuke Sep 28, 2011, 03:31 AM I apologize to everyone for the holdup.
There's been some grumbling about it, but that right there makes it okay in my book. :)
If anyone on the list moves, just pass along your new mailing address. If you quit CFC, why worry about an activity you won't be participating in anyway? At the very least, make sure people around you on the list know that you're to be skipped. Same if you should happen to get banned for any significant length of time.
It's even simpler than that - before you send it off, just make sure the guy you're sending it to is still around!
If you can think of something better to call inhabitants of the US then you should share. I personally like "United Stateseans" better.
I like to think of us as really nice guys.
Boundless Sep 28, 2011, 10:27 AM I estimated it would get to me by November when this started - I doubt this now :p
warpus Sep 28, 2011, 10:34 AM Here in Brazil we just call you North-americans or "estadunidenses".
What would you call somebody from North America who isn't U.S.-ian? or if you wanted to reference all North Americans, including the U.S. mexico and Canada?
Yared Sep 28, 2011, 12:27 PM I too used to get a tiny bothered by the demonym "American" being used for citizens of the US. But then I realised that the whole name is "The United States of America".
If USA had had a different name that didn't include "America" in it, like, say... "Utah" (I know I'm cruel), THEN it'd be stupid to call citizens of USA/Utah "Americans" because there'd no longer be "America" in the name.
Anyway, carry on.
Midleiro F. Sep 28, 2011, 03:43 PM What would you call somebody from North America who isn't U.S.-ian? or if you wanted to reference all North Americans, including the U.S. mexico and Canada?
Mmm... I guess something like "the inhabitants of North America" or "Americanos do Norte" which is like "The Americans from North (america)"
SiLL Sep 29, 2011, 09:26 AM That is what happens if the description of your nation is a mixture of geographic and political formalities instead of a cool nick name.
US-Americans is probably the most correct answer to the question how those people should be named. But it is also awfully long, and I take no issue with removing the US- for convenience as long as it is remembered that it actually belongs there.
Anyway, I was worried to not have the chance to get my new home town known well enough before I have to take the picture, but that worry went out of the window :mischief:
contre Sep 29, 2011, 02:48 PM I've been conditioned to say, "I'm from the US, originally" or "I'm from the States, originally" over "I'm an American"
Valka, if you're unable to get a picture by tomorrow, I'm going to request you mail it to Zelig anyway.
Valka D'Ur Sep 29, 2011, 05:52 PM Relax. I did get the picture this afternoon - not the perfect one I'd envisioned, but hopefully good enough.
I had to be quick, though - there have been cougar sightings in the area, and I really didn't want to meet one.
SiLL Sep 29, 2011, 06:02 PM I for one would have loved a foto of a cougar.
Valka D'Ur Sep 29, 2011, 06:07 PM Even though I might not have survived to mail the camera? They're not as dangerous as bears, but they're still not anything I'd care to meet.
VRWCAgent Sep 29, 2011, 06:38 PM Even though I might not have survived to mail the camera? They're not as dangerous as bears, but they're still not anything I'd care to meet.
Just think of them as oversized LOLcats! :D
SiLL Sep 29, 2011, 06:38 PM An attack foto would be of even greater awesomeness. Just saying...
Ceoladir Sep 29, 2011, 06:39 PM Valka, bring with you a chain gun and a pop tart.
Valka D'Ur Sep 29, 2011, 07:01 PM Guys, the picture has already been taken. Unless you want me to use up another person's spot, I'm not going back out there (even though I'd get a better shot, now that the sky has cleared up).
I'm not sure what a chain gun is. And it's against the rules to feed the wildlife.
Unless you meant that I should eat the pop tart myself...
Ceoladir Sep 29, 2011, 07:03 PM I meant take that with you when you find the cougar. The chain gun was for defense, the pop tart was for a tasty snack. :D
SiLL Sep 29, 2011, 07:08 PM I say the cougar is worth another slot. Shall we make a poll?
Valka D'Ur Sep 29, 2011, 07:08 PM Guns are illegal where I took the picture. And a pop tart wouldn't have helped, since I wasn't hungry. A bottle of water would have been nice, though.
Ceoladir Sep 29, 2011, 07:09 PM Why does everybody take things so literally? :(
madviking Sep 29, 2011, 07:10 PM Not everyone.
SiLL Sep 29, 2011, 07:11 PM Not everybody :high5:
But I would still like a poll.
Valka D'Ur Sep 29, 2011, 07:22 PM And how would you word such a poll: "Should Valka risk her life hiking through the wildlife sanctuary of Waskasoo Park in hopes of encountering a cougar which will hopefully attack her and she'll get a really cool picture of her last moments on Earth, even though nobody here could ever mail the camera on to anyone else on CFC because Valka is the only person on Earth who knows the relevant passwords on her computer to find out Zelig's snailmail address?"
I'm not sure the forum software would allow such a long question... :hmm:
nonconformist Sep 29, 2011, 07:33 PM Aye .
SiLL Sep 29, 2011, 07:37 PM I'm not sure the forum software would allow such a long question... :hmm:
Well we can cut the last part, because we'll assume that you protect yourself.
IglooDude Sep 30, 2011, 06:30 AM And how would you word such a poll: "Should Valka risk her life hiking through the wildlife sanctuary of Waskasoo Park in hopes of encountering a cougar which will hopefully attack her and she'll get a really cool picture of her last moments on Earth, even though nobody here could ever mail the camera on to anyone else on CFC because Valka is the only person on Earth who knows the relevant passwords on her computer to find out Zelig's snailmail address?"
I'm not sure the forum software would allow such a long question... :hmm:
There, I've abbreviated it a little for you.
:joke:
Valka D'Ur Sep 30, 2011, 06:43 AM Thanks. :(
AL_DA_GREAT Sep 30, 2011, 09:54 AM Wait!? You are a female?

What about words that describe specific groups? Like African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Italian Americans, blahablah. Would you call a black person in Canada, African Canadian or African American? If you don't like calling blacks in the US African Americans would you just say US Africans?
contre Sep 30, 2011, 07:58 PM I think the first part of the hyphen-American drops when you're talking to non Americans... except perhaps in the case of African-Americans as that's a pretty distinct group of people.
Valka D'Ur Sep 30, 2011, 08:01 PM What about words that describe specific groups? Like African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Italian Americans, blahablah. Would you call a black person in Canada, African Canadian or African American? If you don't like calling blacks in the US African Americans would you just say US Africans?
If they don't call themselves Canadians, they probably hyphenate which country they/their ancestors are from, ie. Sudanese-Canadian.
BTW, the camera and notebook are now on their way to Zelig. So please don't ask me for risky cougar pictures, 'cuz I don't have the camera anymore.
IglooDude Oct 01, 2011, 05:25 AM BTW, the camera and notebook are now on their way to Zelig. So please don't ask me for risky cougar pictures, 'cuz I don't have the camera anymore.
So we'll just assume this would have been the shot:

:)
Valka D'Ur Oct 01, 2011, 05:34 AM Maybe Zelig will take a picture of a coyote (they often come into the city, looking for food). Or maybe a deer or moose. There must be somebody around who has fermented crabapples lying within temptation's reach...
'Course, there's always the dinosaur section of the zoo...
EDIT: IglooDude, that's not a cougar...
IglooDude Oct 01, 2011, 07:21 AM EDIT: IglooDude, that's not a cougar...
I know; I'm not zoologically confused, I'm just lazy, and happened to see the pic in thechive this morning. :dunno:
Godwynn Oct 01, 2011, 07:39 AM Whomp is going to dangle me off the side of Trump Tower while I hold the camera to get the perfect non-flying-machine aerial picture.
Valka D'Ur Oct 01, 2011, 02:38 PM I know; I'm not zoologically confused, I'm just lazy, and happened to see the pic in thechive this morning. :dunno:
Well, when you speculate about a picture of me and a cougar, but post one of a lion, I did wonder... :mischief:
Hygro Oct 01, 2011, 06:19 PM Don't worry guys, I'll take a picture of a cougar for ya.
in the wild :groucho:
Boundless Oct 02, 2011, 04:12 AM Oh man, I wish I lived in a place where there were cougar spottings...
Edit: LOL, just read that again, I guess there are plenty of cougars after men on a night out..
contre Oct 13, 2011, 01:14 PM Looking for an update!

Who's currently got it?
contre Oct 16, 2011, 01:14 PM Second...
Who's currently got it?
Zelig, who promises he's going to mail it Monday.
Zelig Oct 17, 2011, 09:23 PM Sorry about my incompetence. :(
It's sent on to Orange Seeds now though!
Valka D'Ur Oct 17, 2011, 09:25 PM Incompetence?
BTW, just curious - how long did it take to get from Red Deer to Calgary?
Zelig Oct 17, 2011, 11:15 PM Hm, like 2 days?
I've been busy lately, and didn't muster up the energy to get the photo taken for a couple weeks.
Blame MjM if you want to blame someone other than me.
Valka D'Ur Oct 17, 2011, 11:27 PM Considering that you had to wait on me while I recovered from my illness, I'm hardly blaming you for anything. I was just curious to know if Canada Post was as efficient as they promised they would be. :)
MjM Oct 18, 2011, 03:29 AM Blame MjM if you want to blame someone other than me.

Silurian Oct 18, 2011, 05:09 AM I predict that the camera will get back to contre on

Anyone else care to make a prediction:)
AL_DA_GREAT Oct 18, 2011, 05:24 AM I predict that the camera will get back to contre on

Anyone else care to make a prediction:)
Add two months. April wouldn't surprise me.
Anyway, should we send a second camera?
Truronian Oct 18, 2011, 10:43 AM At the current rate it's going to be hitting the UK in Olympics season... that might be quite cool.
Silurian Oct 18, 2011, 10:57 AM Its a pity the sailing is not happening in Torbay this time, then you could have had a short trip to get your photo

June 7, 2013
Virote_Considon Oct 18, 2011, 11:29 AM If I were involved, I'd have been able to take a picture of the sailing in Portland.
LucyDuke Oct 18, 2011, 11:29 AM Er... "it"? :scared:
Virote_Considon Oct 18, 2011, 11:30 AM :ninja:
Silurian Oct 18, 2011, 11:54 AM I think the camera will leave the UK at the end of June so will miss the start of the olympics
Yared Oct 18, 2011, 02:10 PM It's all kinda hilarious actually. Oh well, let it take its time.
contre Oct 18, 2011, 02:55 PM August 10th 2012. I'm optimistic. Plus if it's close to that date I can just lie to you all.
Silurian Oct 18, 2011, 05:32 PM Well you will only have a few days to develop the film scan it and post.
Orange Seeds Oct 19, 2011, 05:42 PM Got the camera today. It shouldn't take long for me to send it off again. I'm just gonna take a picture looking out by bedroom window! I'm away in Calgary all weekend though so that will delay me putting it in the post.

Did this get mailed?
Boundless Oct 30, 2011, 10:33 AM I'm so excited for it to get to the UK! I have my photo all planned out!
Orange Seeds Nov 03, 2011, 11:43 AM It's in the post and on the way to San Diego. It will be a while in the mail, however, as I went with the cheapest option. It should arrive within two weeks.
Silurian Nov 03, 2011, 04:19 PM I think the camera will leave the UK at the end of June so will miss the start of the olympics
Well it seems to be getting slower and will now get to Boundless in September and back to Contre in February
Valka D'Ur Nov 03, 2011, 09:38 PM The UK folks could adjust the timing so somebody gets a photo of the Olympics. After all, we know this never was going to take just 80 days, so why not allow for some special events?
Boundless Nov 04, 2011, 12:52 AM Is anyone going to the olympics?
Zelig Nov 04, 2011, 07:45 AM The London olympics?
I probably won't be going, I'd have to go to London.
Syterion Nov 21, 2011, 05:26 PM So I got the camera. I am going to take the picture soon and plan on sending it out later in the week.
Valka D'Ur Nov 21, 2011, 05:35 PM Good thing it's out of Canada now. We have winter here. :p

contre Dec 17, 2011, 09:25 AM Did this get mailed out, syterion?
SiLL Dec 17, 2011, 12:22 PM Yeah, what's up with the current delay?
Silurian Dec 17, 2011, 12:35 PM Looks like it could well be 2014 before it gets back to Canada.
Does the US postal service fail at this time of year.
Cutlass Dec 17, 2011, 04:13 PM The Post Office is fine. They're used to the seasonal surge. It's the participants in this little exercise that have been the stumbling blocks right from the start. :p
Ceoladir Dec 17, 2011, 10:21 PM My aunt is a mail carrier. The PO is doing fine.
Silurian Dec 18, 2011, 04:36 AM The Post Office is fine. They're used to the seasonal surge. It's the participants in this little exercise that have been the stumbling blocks right from the start. :p
Well I wonder if Canada will end up being quickest per participant.
I hope the UK is the faster than the US and has the best pics.:D
Loppan Torkel Dec 18, 2011, 04:47 AM Where is the camera?
AL_DA_GREAT Dec 18, 2011, 05:31 AM There should be a rule that you have to put 20 dollars or the equivalent if it hasn't been mailed within a week.

Put? That doesn't make sense.
AL_DA_GREAT Dec 18, 2011, 08:28 AM Put? That doesn't make sense.
Put it in the parcel. So if you are lazy for 8 days you must put 20 dollars in the box as a fine.
Heretic_Cata Dec 18, 2011, 08:59 AM So what's the speed of this thing so far, 1 month per participant ?
LucyDuke Dec 18, 2011, 09:18 AM What would be the point?
AL_DA_GREAT Dec 18, 2011, 09:48 AM What would be the point?
It would give an incentive to mail faster. This parcel is moving way to slowly.
Traitorfish Dec 18, 2011, 11:36 AM It's not much of an incentive when there's no way of enforcing it.
LucyDuke Dec 18, 2011, 02:18 PM There's also no point and it's dumb to mail cash. Shame is an adequate incentive.
SiLL Dec 18, 2011, 04:48 PM Alright. So let's all write "Shame on you!" visitor messages on Syterion's profile site. :mischief:
Whomp Dec 18, 2011, 06:42 PM If it gets to me before the 31st I can hand it off in London. Otherwise, it is probably best to skip me.
Cutlass Dec 18, 2011, 06:43 PM That would cut out at least 3 people in the East US.
Skwink Dec 18, 2011, 06:48 PM Put it in the parcel. So if you are lazy for 8 days you must put 20 dollars in the box as a fine.
I have a nice rock that I value at about $20.
Whomp Dec 18, 2011, 06:53 PM That would cut out at least 3 people in the East US.
Gotcha so I will opt out of this.
Cutlass Dec 18, 2011, 06:56 PM Gotcha so I will opt out of this.
At the rate it's going, you may be back before it gets to you. Check the timing with Hygro as to when he will send it.
Algeroth Dec 18, 2011, 07:21 PM Well, I hoped to take a photo of snowed Prague. But looking at the speed of the camera and the seven degrees above zero outside, I think that I will have a chance next winter.
Hygro Dec 18, 2011, 07:35 PM edit: posted in response to a tab that was 8 hours old.

Actually, I got a stop in between Hygro and Whomp.
Whomp, when will you be back in the US? If yer only gone a few weeks you can still be squeezed in.
Optical Dec 18, 2011, 09:36 PM I'd help you guys by filling in your New Zealand spot, but there's no way my parents would let me.

Silurian Dec 19, 2011, 07:14 AM So what's the speed of this thing so far, 1 month per participant ?
Well it was going at 17 days per person until it got to Syterion.
Has Syterion posted it yet:) he was active earlier.

Zelig is #1 for speed.

Silurian Dec 19, 2011, 07:58 AM Well it depends on how far before 16/10 Zelig received the camera.
warpus Dec 19, 2011, 09:06 AM Heh and I was feeling bad when I took a week
I think people are caring a bit too much about getting the perfect shot at the perfect location

Valka D'Ur Dec 19, 2011, 11:21 AM Well it depends on how far before 16/10 Zelig received the camera.
I think in my case, being too sick to get out of bed qualifies as a reasonable excuse for the delay, not to mention that I was in the midst of moving and didn't know where my new address was going to be. :(
Silurian Dec 19, 2011, 12:55 PM I think in my case, being too sick to get out of bed qualifies as a reasonable excuse for the delay, not to mention that I was in the midst of moving and didn't know where my new address was going to be. :(
You kept us observers well informed:):):) but of course we are disappointed with the failure to photograph the cougar;)
Valka D'Ur Dec 19, 2011, 07:12 PM Actually, besides the minor thing of my wanting to survive long enough to actually mail the camera (since cougar attacks can be fatal), the Nature Centre was going to close soon, and they don't have a pay phone outdoors. That place is too far for me to walk home, I don't have a cell phone, and needed to be able to call a taxi.
warpus Dec 19, 2011, 07:31 PM I think what should happen is people who drop out of this should get major infractions
Also people who took longer than me and weren't sick
Boundless Dec 19, 2011, 11:53 PM I am still so excited for it to get to me, regardless of how long it takes!
AL_DA_GREAT Dec 20, 2011, 02:28 AM I really hope that it doesn't get sent to me in the summer. I am away for long stretches during the summer. I thought 29 pics would take roughly 7-8 months and I would get it in the spring. I am not dropping out since it very likely will not come the day after I leave my house for three weeks. Also I am not going very far and I could get the Camera at my summer house.
Nobody Dec 27, 2011, 09:34 PM hey hows it going? Where's the camera?
Hygro Dec 29, 2011, 08:41 AM I've got it.

contre Dec 29, 2011, 02:51 PM A mere 4 months to go 6 people.... And 25 or so to go.
Well, I need to get better at pestering past 1 week.
AL_DA_GREAT Dec 29, 2011, 02:58 PM At this rate it will take 16 months meaning it will take another year. We definitely need speed. I hope we can have a few quick people. Someone who will get their parcel, go out and take a pic and send it the next day.
Silurian Dec 30, 2011, 04:30 AM Well for the USA to beat Canada for speed the rest of the USA must now get the posting to posting date (or received to received date) down to twelve days.
Valka D'Ur Dec 30, 2011, 05:29 AM Is the notebook still with the camera?
VRWCAgent Jan 28, 2012, 01:41 PM Hello? Update? Is this thing even out of Canada yet?
Valka D'Ur Jan 28, 2012, 01:59 PM Last we heard (a few posts upthread) is that Hygro has/had it. That means California. So yes, it's out of Canada.
contre Jan 28, 2012, 02:07 PM Hygro is sitting on it. I've pestered him through PM and on #fiftychat but I can't physically make him stop being irresponsible.

For a whole month ? Im really surprised . Obviously there may be reasons I'm not aware of and I do try hard not to be judgmental , but jeez !You get it , you use it , you send it . It aint the recepients camera , it's everyones especially Contre .
Sorry Hygro . I honestly hate having a go at people , especially on the Internet . And the delay may be due to things I don't know about but I find that hard to fathom . A little more love for Contre's awesome idea is in order . As it stands , the current situation strikes me as pretty rude , one which can easily be resolved by promptly sending the thing .
contre Jan 28, 2012, 05:41 PM I appreciate that people are putting time and effort into doing their photos well and thinking them out, but I fear people are falling into a trap of thinking this is a competition. No one wants to have the worst photograph attached to their name or something. If that's the case, I just want to remind everyone of a few things:
This is intended to reflect the lives of CFC members, not glorify where we live. I can show you a dozen professional photographs of Parliament Hill here in Ottawa. That's why I took a picture of something different.
No matter how amazing a scene you have, this is a $13 disposable camera. Don't wait around for perfection because the camera is incapable of it anyway.
Traitorfish Jan 28, 2012, 05:51 PM If it would help, I could volunteer to take an absolutely piss-poor photograph, so nobody else has to worry about being worst. :mischief:

Wouldn't it make more sense for you to be naked when downtown takes a picture of you?
This is intended to reflect the lives of CFC members, not glorify where we live. I can show you a dozen professional photographs of Parliament Hill here in Ottawa. That's why I took a picture of something different.

Silurian Jan 29, 2012, 09:26 AM Well assuming it gets posted tomorrow the rest of the USA has to average 11 days posting to posting to beat Canada for speed.
Valka D'Ur Jan 29, 2012, 12:21 PM I appreciate that people are putting time and effort into doing their photos well and thinking them out, but I fear people are falling into a trap of thinking this is a competition.
Well, mine isn't amazing. But it is one of my favorite places AND I wrote a nice page or so about it in the notebook.
It's impossible to have an amazing picture of Red Deer anyway, unless it's the full glory of the autumn colors taken from one specific hill - and that same hill can be used for the full glory of a winter snowfall. Otherwise, most anything else worth seeing here that's "amazing" can already be found online.
Hygro Jan 30, 2012, 03:20 AM Well I got a very cool photo opportunity that captures my life and is something a bit unique. I will take the picture thursday night, so you all pester me with more PMs on thursday so I can't forget!! :D

Yellowstone is where my parents went on their honeymoon. My dad always wanted to go back there someday, and we started planning a trip that would let us both indulge our inner amateur geologist... but alas, we never were able to make that happen.
As for links PM'd to your mom, contre... the only objectionable ones I know of are ones I can't talk about, since that would be PDMA... :mischief: And since those are long over and done with, there's nothing to worry about. :D

I'm in New York, USA...
Cutlass Feb 13, 2012, 07:26 PM At the current rate it's still 2 months from NY :p
warpus Feb 13, 2012, 07:28 PM We should have really sent 2 (or more) - 1 each way around the world... or maybe one starting at the other end, going the other way. That way people would get to contribute sooner.

SiLL Feb 13, 2012, 10:39 PM Yeah, one is so busy laying off work, an OT camera got to fit right in.
Silurian Feb 14, 2012, 06:04 AM Well at the average rate so far it will leave the US at the beginning of November and get back to Contre in May 2014 at the same rate.
If the rest of the US are as fast as the Canadians then it will leave the US at the end of July and get back to Contre in July 2013, if it continues at the Canadian rate.
Hygro Feb 14, 2012, 07:36 AM yeah jeez you guys are so slow!
LucyDuke Feb 14, 2012, 02:46 PM You had it at least from December 29 to February 4. And it got to America in late November.
Shame is an adequate incentive.

madviking Feb 14, 2012, 03:45 PM I remember I was worried about getting it over my Winter Break (roughly 10 Dec to 20 Jan). Now, I'm worried about getting it during my Summer Break (begins on 10 May or something).

If the speed goes back up to the Canadian speed you will get it early May.
If it continues at that speed it will arrive in Europe in early August.
I cannot see how the USA can be #1 for average speed now.

You will not get Contre's camera until the middle of December if it speeds up too the Canadian rate, (June next year if it carries on at the current rate.)
warpus Feb 15, 2012, 11:49 AM I am almost temped to start a second Camera, but I know that would "dilute" the fun.
I'd be into that; I don't think it would dilute the fun at all. It would make it more interesting, if anything! We could send it the other way and see which one makes it around the world first.
Boundless Feb 15, 2012, 02:22 PM If Contre expresses he is not against it, I will.
contre Feb 15, 2012, 02:35 PM Alright, so, new rule. I'm calling it the Hygro rule, for what I think will be obvious reasons.
I will be PMing everyone left to receive the camera. You will have to agree, publicly in this thread, to send it within 1 week of receiving it. There are no exceptions to this except death. If you are unable to find the perfect shot, you mail it on without taking any shots. If you are in a hospital, you find friend / family to mail the camera on your behalf.
To be very very clear people, I've put in a lot of hours organizing this. An anonymous poster has put up $200 dollars to see this project finish. When you sit on a camera for an extended time, you are not only being incredibly rude to myself, to the very generous poster who is acting as a patron, and to your fellow posters. You are also hurting the project as a whole. Every week that passes, people down the line from yourself are losing interest. That is completely unacceptable.
If Contre expresses he is not against it, I will.

I had to move unexpectedly, and then got sick. I was sick for weeks. There was nobody else to either take the picture or mail it on my behalf. And then when I finally did manage to take the picture AND do a nice writeup, people complained that I wasn't willing to risk my LIFE coming face-to-face with a wild animal that could have literally killed me.

I'd still love to be a part of this, i might as well say whether i can make it or not when the camera approches continental europe .

Valka said guns were illegal where she took the photo.
They are illegal where I took the photo. You think anybody could go into a wildlife sanctuary, armed with anything but a camera or sketchbook, without the staff getting irate about it and calling the cops (and rightly so)? Guys, I used to WORK at this place! I also lived on a rural acreage when I was a child, and I knew at a very young age that there are some animals you Just Don't Mess With. Cougars are one. Ditto with deer, moose, coyotes, bears, and skunks. All of those are possible to meet up with in Waskasoo Park (which the sanctuary is only a small part). And trust me, getting up close and personal with them is not a good idea! The first thing you do is make sure you're not between them and their babies or their food. Then you get away, as safely as possible. Only if you are totally safe and in no danger at all, do you consider taking out a camera. So many people have been injured or killed in the parks in this province because they forgot that wild animals don't care about some picture a dumb human wants to put on the 'net. They only care if you're in their way or if you scare them.
Wild animals are wonderful to see. But they're not like Disney, or even a zoo. If the sanctuary management puts up an advisory of cougar sightings, absolutely I'm gonna take it seriously and not venture onto the back trails like I'd originally wanted to do.

rugbyLEAGUEfan Feb 20, 2012, 12:21 PM Why so closed up? We seem to have one or two drop-outs, no room for another one?
Unless you were being ironic , put your mind in the gutter and re read his post
SiLL Feb 20, 2012, 12:28 PM I see what you mean.
Silurian Feb 20, 2012, 01:03 PM How about 80 weeks?
Well 25 weeks have gone.
At the average speed so far there is another 85 weeks to go. (assuming 27 people left)
But ContresMUM and you have beaten down the weeks to go from 141.
If the Canadian average is maintained there are 68 weeks to go.
If the camera is handed over person to person in London it will save time in the post.
Also if it goes Kan > Traitorfish > Abaddon/Boundless.
So it is possible to get around in 80 weeks total but it will be hard going.
NedimNapoleon Feb 20, 2012, 01:15 PM How far has it got, I may be interested. As you know I'm from Bosnia, I can tell you my full adress.
peter grimes Feb 20, 2012, 01:18 PM I don't want to see you beat it.
;)
I see what you did there...
In any event all I mean is that I go past 2 different post offices nearly every day. And I work, but not too much. I'm pretty much always around.
rugbyLEAGUEfan Feb 20, 2012, 01:18 PM How far has it got, I may be interested. As you know I'm from Bosnia, I can tell you my full adress.
As opposed to that other mailing system that only requires a partial address ?
NedimNapoleon Feb 20, 2012, 01:31 PM Please explain what you mean, I dont get it?
rugbyLEAGUEfan Feb 20, 2012, 01:34 PM Me just being a smart ass , (and not particularly smart in retrospect , more of an ass). As in no need to explicitly state that you will provide your FULL address , it's assumed as a partial address would be useless .
NedimNapoleon Feb 20, 2012, 01:38 PM Oh thats what I thought I was just stating that it wouldn't be a problem to give my full as you said tehpartial is useless, so how far has it got.
