I have been having trouble getting PTW to run properly. Tech support says I need to update my video drivers, but I already have and the problem still exists. The ONLY way to get PTW to run is by first starting my virus scan. The virus scan needs to be scanning for the game to start. I then have to close the virus scan for the game to run smoothly. It works but is a pain in the but. Can anyone offer advice.

Also, I have not been able to get a decent starting position in PTW. Anyone else having this problem.

I have ALL of the patches and stuff. I also have the original store bought version of the game. I am running win 98. I have 312 MB ram and a AMD-K6 processor.

The Virus scan thing sounds very weird. You say you need to activate it, so I assume it isn't always running, but are you sure that even when it's deactivated it doesn't have some process running in the background?

Which AV program are you using?

About the starting locations - I can tell you I always get poor starting locations, especially in multiplayer (at least that's what I'll claim when people beat the crap out of me :D )

AV program? Does that refer to the video program. I am using whatever came with my CPU. It is a compaq presario with win 98.

The virus scan is deactivated when I am not running it. Tech support has been unable to help me.

No, sorry - with AV, i meant anti-virus software. Which anti-virus program do you use?

Also, when you have it deactivated, which processes are running in the background? Press CTRL+ALT and 'DELETE' once to see the list of active processes. Maybe some part of the Antivirus package is still hiding in there.

I have deactivated it by removing it twice. It is Mcaffee virus scan. I cannot get PTW to run without it. It is very annoying. I have almost nothing running in the background. I have cleared all of that out. When I use CTRL + ALT + Del, I have only a couple of needed programs running. Things like my mouse and keyboard programs.

I dunno

It makes no sense that PtW requires that your is Antivirus running in the background. I haven't got any good ideas on how to solve that, other than the good ol'e 'format: C', but I guess that's going a bit overboard if the game is running and all. :(
