Greetings, one and all Civ fans!

A quick (specific) problem developed the other night after playing Civilization III: The game was running fine and dandy, then by like turn four or five, the music got "stuttery" (for lack of a better word) and the game slowed to a crawl. Bear in mind, during the first few turns, it was working perfectly. Here's my system specs, and please, don't laugh too hard.

IBM Aptiva w/64 mb RAM
8.0 gb hard drive
Panasonic 17" monitor
350 mhz processor
virtual memory turned *on*

I'm no computer guru, however, I know the minimum specs are a Pentium II 300. I have a Pentium II 350, and as I stated, it ran fine, albeit for only a few minutes. Could someone please give me some causes for this? My own theory is that there are taskbar programs running that are sucking up the memory, and causing Civ III to choke.

However, I'm not certain, and any ideas to try and clear up the problem would be DEEPLY appreciated. This is one damn fun game to play, and I want to continue. :p Thanks all!

The computer you've got is only just enough to run Civ3 I'm afraid. The minimum specs given on the box of any computer program is what the program needs to run, not run well.

The "stuttering" is probably caused by the windows swapfile trying to free up memory, try turning off all animations & music and don't start a game with a map size larger than "standard", that should cut down the pauses. Be warned, there still might be a long pause between turns.
